[Announce] AwOken Theme

4 Attachment(s)
I have now released it to the repos. Just go grab it from your Application Manager.

This is still the official thread of the AwOken Theme and i still want critique on it.

A couple of pictures...

-----------------------------------------------------------
I am proud to announce a theme i have been working on for awhile. It is not finished yet. Currently version 0.5.1. Would be nice to get some critique on it before i put it in the repos. I used the Array theme as ground and built out from that. It in very early beta and will look odd in some places.

Right now i would like to have some critique on my job so far.

To install.. just download the awoken-<version>.tar.gz and put it in the "/" directory. Then "sudo gunzip awoken-<version>.tar.gz" and "sudo tar xvf awoken-<version>.tar". It will be extracted to the /usr/share/themes/ directory.

Thank you for making such a beautiful theme.

Love -it - some things still need polishing - wish the shortcut icons were transparent with a frame like in pleego but apart from that its a great start.

Yeah, have been thinking on that. Not sure exactly yet though. They need to be a bit lighter and i might throw in a border as you suggested.

Its great!! Only thing is that I think that the Menu (top right) and the close icons are a bit out of sync with the rest of the icons. Thanks

Re: [WIP] AwOken Theme

Alrighty, theme looks awesome from the screenies you posted, but I have now been fighting with installation for the past hour and not got anywhere. Apologies for being a Windows noob. I have tried everything I found on the internet to unzip the tarball (and have previously succeeded with other tarballs) but I simply can't get it to create the awoken folder in /usr/share/themes/

Steps taken in terminal;

Code:

mv awoken-0.5.1.tar.gz /usr/share/themes
cd /usr/share/themes
ls -a
tar -zxvf awo<tab>
<terminal runs through loadsa pngs>
ls -a
<terminal reports no awoken folder>
gzip -d awo<tab>
ls -a
<terminal reports that the filename has had the .gz extension removed>
tar -zxvf awo<tab>
<invalid magic reported from terminal>
tar zxvf awo<tab>
<invalid magic reported from terminal>
gzip awo<tab>
ls -a
<terminal confirms the .gz extension is replaced>
tar xvf awo<tab>
<terminal runs through loadsa pngs>
ls -a
<terminal reports no awoken folder>

Again, my sincere apologies for being a windoze noob but tarball technology and the various options thereof are still a mystery to me. A little help please?

Shameless B-U-M-P :D

NVM found it. My mistake. Apologies for the bump - although the OP deserves it anyway :D

One more thing. The bright green selection background. Would much rather see a smokey purple etc. I have tried to change it myself using theme customizer and while some items are now purple backed, the majority retain the green. Would appreciate some direction on where else I need to make this change.

It is an image called TouchListBackgroundPressed.png you must change.

This is by purpose.. i wanted something that didn't look as the other themes. I might make more later which could easily be changed by a script.

Re: [WIP] AwOken Theme

It looks great. I've spent a fair while customising my phone to be my own custom theme so i'm always loathe to install others, but would you upload the icon pack so those of us who want the icons but our existing themes can have the best of both?

Also, if the 'K' icon is Kasvopas, any chance of changing that to the standard facebook-style 'F'?

Ok i saved my own 'theme' is theme customiser so i could install this without losing my own work.

Found the awoken iconset in the repos, although a few are missing (macuco, kasvopus, twimgo, panorama, recaller, if anyone has any that could work?)

(any chance of increasing the wallpaper number too? Seeing as a lot of people have more than 4 desktops and reusing say, image 1 on desktop 5 ruins the loop effect)

Edit: i assume you'll include the awoken icon pack when you put the theme into the repos? If so, you might want to make a few changes. I noticed that all the default apps have the icons changed, which is good, but some popular ones also have them changed (leadpad, kmplayer, hermes, geeps, healthcheck etc) but other popular ones don't (angry birds, easypark, stellarium, showtime, tweakflash, travelapp, and the ones mentioned in the above paragraph (oddly, in documents to go, word and excel are changed but the other one isn't?!)). If you intend on releasing the theme with the icon pack (which i think would be a good idea) it'd be very well received if you changed the above icons, because a lot of them are popular, widely used apps and most people install a theme/icon set so they don't have to change it themselves, and many may find it harder to actually edit icons to match others than they would to just download fresh icons.

Just my 2 cents

And to be more positive, here's my main homescreen as it stands with this theme

Yes, that is kasvopus.. might change it.. but the icon-theme already have a couple of "F's".

Ahh.. you found my icon-theme. You could find more about it here. http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...249#post971249. Most of those icons you suggested are already done. But they are in extras-devel right now.

I will add more backgrounds later.. right now i am focused to get all the standard working.

Thanks a lot of your feedback!

I don't remember all the names but there are more than one facebook app. So it could get difficult to distinguish them. Thats why Kasvopus has a K instead of F.

makes sense.

found my main issue with the theme though: every theme image shows up in the gallery. this is annoying and many people won't like it, can you put them in a hidden folder like other themes?

Oh yes indeedy. Thats more to my liking. Combined with the nice purple backing I have on selects etc now (thanks for the tip on the png file) I believe I have found my theme+iconset for life.

Just one question - where do I get the new version with the updated theme background?

A new release is ready for download from the first post. The progress goes well. By this speed i might release the next version for the repos.

Awesome. Will get that screen made for you. I am still not 100% happy with the shade of purple need am hoping to get it more to the grey side.

Do not understand exactly what you mean. The image gallery show all your images not just photos. You will need to filter out those you don't like. It could be done through tracker.cfg permanently or inside the image viewer. It has nothing with the theme to do though.

Other themes don't have this problem though. Queen Beecon Widgets has two folders, one hidden and one not hidden, i place my widget images in the hidden one so they don't clutter my gallery. Is it possible for you to put the theme images that show up in the gallery in a '.' folder instead, so they can still be read by whatever needs them?

I'm pretty picky about my gallery and i really like to have only photos in there, not album art or anything 'functional'. I know others are similar to this too

What about keeping the dot and flashing line for the task switcher icons, but removing the silver semi-circle? More of a minimalist look

I Kinda was not happy with the lockscreen. A really sophisticated theme must not have such a blunt lockscreen. So I thought why not i try something. the result was something beautiful that matches the theme exactly.

@AlMehdi: If you really like it, you can use it for the theme. Its really amazing how this theme makes your N900 feel. :)

Do comment on this.

They are in a "." folder already.. /home/user/.awoken-extras/original/ maybe i need to make the "original" to a "." folder also.. I guess it is the originals that show up there?

Will think about it.. you mean like having a "flat" button without the circle as menu button?

I might do that.. but i am looking for a more "creative" look. Something not ordinary. It's a bit boring with just an "x" but if i find a nice way of doing it i will implement it.

Looks awesome! I have not touched the lock screen yet so thats might be why it looked a bit blunt ;)

I will add this to the theme. I like the woody background... was actually experimenting with something similar but for the desktop.
