[Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
I just uploaded to the repository MobWebMail - Gmail.
The description of the package reads: First class Gmail browsing on your Phone. This is a web browser optimized for one task: browse your Gmail account using your touch screen device. MobWebMail supports Screen auto-rotation, full-screen view, different zoom levels (using the volume buttons) and downloading attachments. On the top of a very simple interface it allows the user to switch between gmail accounts/sessions with one click. For people that know my other package macuco, the main differences are:
MobWebMail is available in the OVI Store (also for Symbian^3 devices). |
Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
Yay for Felipe!

Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
Can't fetch the package, but I'll try again later. It sounds like a great idea.
|
Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
Cant fetch it either yet :p
Will wait a bit more to try it out :D Any screenshots? Thnx! Edit: Couldn't just wait, so I downloaded the deb file http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d....1.5_armel.deb or with your mobile: http://tinyurl.com/46r48ya Looks VERY GREAT! :) THNX! |

Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
Looks good - I haven't used your browser before (I have no idea why), but I'm loving the iPhone interface so much more than the normal touch one.
There is one huge show stopper for me - it doesn't appear to support Google Apps :( Is this due to the application, or is it the Google services that are not working? I'm happy to give you an account on my Google Apps domain if you want to check anything out. Great work though! |

pretty damn good!
|
Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
It's very very good. Although the graphics of the website aren't too good, but that is something we can't change, right? Although the mail button in the right corner is really useful. Thx again!
P.S. So it's the same as in macuco, right? |
Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
it show a fail to fetch package due to network connection or the catalogs out of date?

Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
Very nice :) very nice indeed. Love the fact we can switch accounts with two clicks too. I also love the way links open up in micob, one thing that i used macuco for was google reader it worked great apart from id always want to open links to other sites through the default brower. Which meant hold down on links, copy the link then open microb and paste the link..... It was a lot of effort, to open a webpage :)
I think it makes sense to support google reader too. Either way great work!! Keep it up and thanks for sharing. cheers nick |
Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
This is one major app that was missing on Maemo ! Macuco was a good workaround, but this promises to be even better, thanks a lot !

Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
I like it a lot (: it's really polished. The blinking effect on the bottom right icon does get on my nerves though :P
any tips or resources for using qtwebkit? |
Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
Hi
Good idea, but why is it attempting to connect to http://www.crochik.com/mobwebmail/v2 ? Maybe an explanation of how it works for the security conscious amongst us :) |

Will there be a future option to maximize or (in window) view? |

It only goes to the crochik.com web page the first time you run the application (until you sign in) and when you click new account (until you sign in). It does not send any information to it. Right now this page is working as the about (and help in a near future). I plan to add a help icon later on. For instance, I have a way to allow you to reset the application (delete all the accounts and clear cookies) by addind a special link to that page (I removed it for now until I can write instructions) The most important thing is that NO INFORMATION is sent or stored on my server. The auto login and switch between google accounts is all done using the "google cookies". I don't even mess with them - I just store them in separate "containers" so you can switch beteen accounts without having to login again. Please make sure to ask for more details if I missed anything. Like you I like to know what is going on |

One warning: it is adictive. Before long you will want to replace all your browers with your custom version :) |

If anything, MobWebMail maybe faster to startup and allows you to switch between accounts. Also, in order, to have the same version you will need to change the user agent. |

Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
I liked your app, but you could expand more in google services... doing instead of email app, an googleapps app, supporting gmail, greader, gmaps, etc etc... the shortcuts are already there! That was something that I would like... until there, I will still using Macuco to acess my gmail and other google apps... but I see future in your app, congrats! :D

Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
Finally a worthy Gmail app! Thank you so much. Thumbs up!:)
|
Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
Finally set it up, seems to work well so far.
I use 2-step verification on my Google account and it properly let me use my verification code after signing in, instead of needing to create an app-specific password. My gmail account is set to use https everywhere, and it looks like MWM is using https connections as I click around on gmail so that's good, too. If there were a setting to ban or warn before non-SSL connections that would be even better. :) That way I can use it in hostile environments (such as a public wifi hotspot) |
Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
I have just installed it, and use it for a while and It is quite cool!!!
Does it have already a link in http://maemo.org/downloads/Maemo5/ ? |

Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
The most important function for me is support for native system notifications. Are you planning something like this? I don't want the full program run in the background all the time.
Otherwise it looks damn cool. |

It is a feature that I also would like to have but not sure it would go with this app. I probably would write another one just for that. In fact, I started at a point to write a imap client just to check for new messages and do some filter - who knows.... |
Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
Nice.
Any plan to make it work with keyboard such as space bar scrolling and jump to the end/top of the page? Cheers! |

Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
Usually I read the entire thread, this time I didn't, so sorry if this is already mentioned, but: Can you please implement the distinct sessions with separate sets of cookies function in Macuco too, if you haven't already? (Meanwhile, I'll keep hoping it becomes standard in all browsers everywhere anyway, but at least if Macuco did it that's a start, and it adds an extra convenience to a broad range of possible desired uses without much detriment to what you'd use the browser for anyway.)

MobWebMail is a new application that goes back to macuco's original idea. I tried to start over, start small and refine it. I wanted to have a very simple user interface and allow for independent sessions. |
Re: [Announce] Mobile Web Mail - Gmail
Okay, so I got time to read the entire thread - my initial request re: multiple sessions stands. Also, I would request having at least some help/about pages offline - I guess it is just a web window so that makes sense, but some one might still be using the N900 with this program years down the line and your life might have some random turns that lead to your server being offline and no longer there to show the webpage. Also, someone might wish to quickly look up something off the help/about page while being offline. I mean, we have almost 30 GB of space that's sitting on the FAT partition - you could dump the pages into a folder on that partition and it'll be a barely-present drop in the bucket. *Shrug*
