This site is very difficult to use with my N800

Is it just me or is it very difficult to select the small text links for change pages in threads of the forums? I find a lot of great info here, but it is not finger friendly. Maybe a larger point size for the < 1 2 3 > , etc.

That's why you should use dpad to navigate the links.

Still, this site is pretty difficult with the IT... The home page loads twice for some reason, page loads are extremely long for just being (mostly) text, and the ads screw up layout once in a while.

Just sayin'...

switch to Mobile template at the bottom of the webpage. Then use the + key on your N800 to increase the zoom factor.

That's great and all - but isn't the IT supposed to be able to handle a page like this and *not* have to use mobile mode? It's ironic that the non-mobile ITT site is a pain to view on the n800. What is up with the double loading?

Thanks for the tip on the mobile template. Didn't see it there. Much uglier than the nice dark screen, but it is easier to use.

Just set the minimum font size in ~user/.opera/opera.ini to something around 20. This makes most web sites much more readable, including ITT.

1. The mobile "mode" is just a theme. The site loads and reads just fine on my N800 with the classic theme.

2. If it's a pain to view, you might consider increasing the default font size of the browser.

3. I don't know what's up with the double loading; it doesn't do that here.

Re: This site is very difficult to use with my N800

1- it's a theme for mobile browsing... that's what I mean - you shouldn't have to use a theme for mobile browsing.

2- I can see it just fine. It is mostly the double loading that bothers (pains) me. I think it only happens on the home page. Doesn't really matter, I guess. I'll try to go back to the classic theme and see if that helps.

3 - see 2... =)

cheers

I used to have a bad experience with the ads on this site until I installed fakeweb (http://fakeweb.garage.maemo.org/) and used a custom hosts file for ad-blocking. Beware of overwriting your own hosts file when installing, in case you've modified it yourself.

Re: This site is very difficult to use with my N800

Is it the ads that make it double load? I have used privoxy to stop the ads and I seem to remember it still double loading. At any rate - it's still a great site.

Same here, whenever I come here with my 770 I wonder why the default theme doesnt work really well. fonts small (good to read but hard to klick the "< 1 2 3 >"-links, front page loads twice ...

its a bit irritating but not a major issue. maybe the next redesign can fix this.

cheers

Re: This site is very difficult to use with my N800

the homepage is only viewable in the dark theme. so double loading is not solved by changing the theme. i'll stop worrying about this...

Re: This site is very difficult to use with my N800

would be also great if the frontpage didn't contain quite so many news items. Or it could be that only the latest is displayed in full and others would contain only ingress.

Re: This site is very difficult to use with my N800

I guess I've been making these remarks ever since the early 770 and ITT days... The "go to first unread" icon for each thread is also tiny and hard to hit accurately, and that's become worse with the new dark theme, not better... And the "mobile" theme is quite broken ("view new posts", etc.).

It's strange because the equivalent forum for the Zaurus line (http://www.oesf.org/forums/) is no less complex or feauture-rich, and it works much better on the tablet.

No problem here at all.

Just use a minimum font size for opera and/or use Optimized View from the menu.

Then this site is easy to read.

Re: This site is very difficult to use with my N800

Me too... I do not fully understand what do you mean by saying "double load", for me as soon as I press the home icon it loads, then I see it shift to the bottom of the screen, then up again...

johsua 2007-07-04 13:11

Re: This site is very difficult to use with my N800

It loads, and then just at the end it seems to clear the screen and reload very quickly - I think perhaps you are describing this. It's just odd. BTW - it is relatively easy to read - that's not my problem. I just would have thought that this site, including the home page, would be streamlined for the ITs - and not just in mobile mode. I really will stop worrying about this... mostly because I couldn't have done any better... ;-)

Yes, it is not a big problem for me too, just wanted to leave another entry to the ones to whom this happens

FPP,

I've already requested that the links in the Mobile template directly jump to the latest unread post. It has already been fixed by the host. Check it out.

Anyway, I use the mobile template cos it loads really fast. In fact, it is what I use even on my desktop.

luketoh, thanks for the heads-up - I had sort of given up on the mobile style and not checked it out recently. I'll give it another go (and thanks Reggie for fixing it !)
