ABOHS is dead! Long live abscore!

Some of you may know this thread because there was this shiny little site where you uploaded your AngryBirds highscore and settings files and there was this guy developing a nice upload tool for this site, but the tool wasn't finished all the time.

This is the successor of ABOHS. This has no shiny little AngryBirds site with less than 15 users. This little tool uploads your highscores to angrybirds-score.com, a site with hundreds of AngryBirds players from the iWorld, that little planet where the green robot lives and many others.

Maybe you know a nice program called abscore from the Android Market. This will be the maemo version of it.

So thats your "workflow":

1. play AngryBirds with maemo, iPhone, Android or whatever you have
2. start your AngryBirds Upload tool i.e. this one if you are on Maemo/Symbian/Windows
3. upload your highscores and compare them to players all over the world
4. try to beat them all!

I think you got the idea.

The main platform of this app is Maemo. But there will be more in the future:

Highscore tables for every level

I finished the work on the single level ranking. Now you can see your rank and score on every single level. At the moment there are only 4 users registered and only 2 has uploaded there highscores. Thats good after only 2 days I think.
I hope there will be more users in the next days, so tell everyone you know. ;)

Statistics

I've added a site called stats to view some information like how many users are registered or the average score and so on. I will add more stuff that could be interesting in the future. Any ideas?

FAQ

For know it is a bit complicated to upload your highscores file so I added the FAQ site with useful information how to do stuff.

I would be lovely if there is no registration requirement. An N900 native application could post the highscore with phone hardware specific identifier like IMEI number.

I don't knew that there is a site for highscores already. But you have to enter your scores by hand and thats not so cool, so I will continue the work on my site as an alternative. something like the "maemo.org leage". ;)

I'm working on that kind of app atm. But I think the idea of grabbing the imei or something hardware specific is no good idea. Setting a username is the better way I think because you can identify a score with a name.
The same name like the user has on maemo.org would be the best choice in my opinion.

Always have the experience that when I look at the top 10 of a game that I see people with a score of 99999999.

Maemo application for uploading your highscores

I started developing the ABOHS-Uploader. It's in a very early state, so don't expect anything to work. I'm open for any improvements for the GUI and any other peace of code.
On this weekend I will merge some code from my netbook so that some parts should work. For now the version I have online is only a GUI without any function. You can test the current development state at any time but if I were you I would only test the versions that I will publish in the tags folder of the repository because the trunk folder can do very bad stuff on your phone. So only use it if you now what you are doing.

Thats the deal. The highscores file is a simple text file so I could easily upload some 99999 points but I hope that nobody will do so. It's no good behaviour and I hope that people who read this are a bit clever and don't do such dumb things.

Anyway if I see some scores that are definitly manipulated I will delete it. You can send me strange scores if you see some and I will check them.

how come some of the scores are showing as "0" on the list? for example 1-3 for me when it should be "104840"

0 points means that you haven't uploaded a score for that level. if your highscores file has a value for this level it will be overwritten by that number.
So if you have playxed some levels of levelpack 1 and 2 but never played levelpack 3 or 4 you have 0 points in all levels of levelpack 3 and 4.

It's strange, I have 3 stras on all levels but still I got 0 points at world 6 level 3, and same thing on world 11 level 6, something is wrong dude...

There is an Android Application to upload scores on http://angrybirds-score.com and you have the possibility to upload highscores.lua file.

As I said before, send me your highscores.lua and I will check why your not getting the scores up.

Maybe theres something I didn't mention when I made the upload script. I had only my own highscores.lua to do it.

Passwort reset request

I finished the feature that you can generate a new password if you forgot it. At the upper right corner of the site is now a button called "Reset password", there you can enter your email that you've used for regisration and you will get an email with intructions for resetting your password.

PC version

I testet the PC version and it seems that the highscores file is the same as in the maemo version. I will test that in the near future and than add support for the PC version soon.

New Design

Ifinally found some time and remembered some CSS things to make a new design for the ABOHS site. Now the website is looking like a website and not like some early alpha version of something thats gonna be a site in the future.
See it yourself and tell me what you think of it.

I finally added support for the Windows XP/7 version that you can get from Intel AppUp. If you're looking for the highscores and settings file look in the FAQs.

Downtime

I'm currently switching my Root-Server to a cheaper VPS but haven't found one yet. So ABOHS and all other services at xengi.ath.cx will be down for some time. If everything went fine you can access it in some days under abohs.makesyouhappy.org.
If someone reads this who can help, I'm looking for a VPS/Rootserver with the following specs:

OS: Debian 6 64bit
RAM: 2GB
HDD: 100GB
Port Speed: 100MBit/s
Additional stuff: I must have access to the kernel so that I can install my own one.

[UPDATE] Future of ABOHS

I have added a poll to this thread because I really don't know if I will continue the development of ABOHS.

So if there are users who want this service to come back online I will do because it was quite funny, but if nobody wants it I won't do it anymore. No users means no fun comparing scores.

The poll will end in one month. You decide.

I could (already have, but still not working) create an app for symbian, maemo and windows xp/7.
Symbian could be tricky because I have no device here for testing it.

I had that Idea when I first found that site. The main dislike that I had with it was that I was forced to type in all my scores manually. With an app that problem would be solved.

I think the best way is to let the users deside. So if there are some people who want there own angrybirds online highscore, I will continue developing my own highscore site and my own client.
But when people would love to have a maemo/win/symbian client to access angrybirds-score.com I would do that too.

For me it's just earning some skills in qt development. Doesn't matter what come out in the end.

EDIT:

Did anyone know how to edit, change, or reset a poll? I can't find any solution. There is only a bug saying that there is no option for this.

I already have created the APIs for the Android App, so I just have to give you the several urls to call and the parameters for the authentication of the user, the upload of the scores, the recuperation of the scores and the golden challenge feature.
It's based on json exchanges.

Let me know your decision and i will give you all the informations needed...

You can give me the code. When the maemo.org users want that app I will try to do it.

I will develop the app on gitorious (https://gitorious.org/angrybirds-score) and the code will be made public under this license. Are you ok with this? Because I will possibly use some code fragments of your app.

I have created the repository but I will only start developing if there are some people who want this.

So this goes to the maemo.org community: Tell me/us your opinion about this app request.

I thought about the decision mentioned above.
If everybody agrees, I will not rebuild my own angry birds highscore website. So ABOHS will not be availably anymore. Just ignore the poll or keep clicking the "damn cool!" button to satisfy me.

But wait, don't cry. Here is the new plan:

I will start developing an Highscore uploader tool mentioned above, with support for angrybirds-score.com. Targeted platforms are Maemo, Symbian and Windows maybe more in the future.

If I look at the poll nearly all users of the old ABOHS site want this "upload scores app / site" thingy. I think that all ABOHS users will agree when I say that the ABOHS website was crap. Not the idea of sharing scores, but the design and the bugs when uploaded scores does not appear and that there were not much users online and so on..

So look at angrybirds-score.com. I don't like this design too, but thats my personal opinion. The main fact is, why reinventing the wheel? Let's just use this for the heavy angrybirds skills of the maemo community.
And hey there are hundreds of users waiting for us. ;)

So just watch this thread in the near future.
I will publish some website/bugtracking thing at http://abscore.makesyouhappy.org/ for testers and interested people. If you want to follow the development process you can do that on gitorious. I won't publish some release date for now but if I get the docs from JuanSeb soon it shouldn't take too long for the first usable version.
