application iinstallation prob
 

hi guys,
I am using N900 for about 2 months, never tried to upgrade my firmware., now when i tried, instantly it gives applicatioin failed. and I cannot uninstall anything also.
basically I could not install/uninstall anything on my phone.:mad:
pls tell me how to solve this one.

first thing make sure you have set the needed repositories correctly

run x-term and type those commands to clean and remove any un-needed packages as well as fixing any proken package

I have not tried that one.
when i opened x-term
it shows

should i remove these things before i enter which u gave
or go for new from the options.
I not tried those so pls guide, step by step,

That's fine - just enter the commands kingofsorrow gave, one line at a time. You'll need to have rootsh installed first though.

You don't have rootsh installed, so none of those commands will work. You could try downloading the package manually (from here) and seeing whether it will install (open it in File Manager - it should launch App Manager and install it).

If that doesn't work then I think you'll need to reflash - if you don't have rootsh installed, and can't install anything, then I don't think there's any other way to fix things. Make sure you back up everything first though!

ya i now i installed rootsh
then again i tried the comments given by other user
results
root shell enabled
apt-autoremoved not found
install not known
updates many lines like could not resolve host or something

Use Power search, I'm sure you will find a thread where someone has solved the same problem, I had this issue a long time ago and found the solution in a old thread.
Example : type /var/lib/dpkg/lock in the power search and many thread appear like this one :

hmmm, thanks bro,

I have taken all the important items(photos/notes etc) from my mobile,
so can i do flash with out going to Nokia dealer?

Yes, you can easily flash it yourself - just follow the instructions there.
