Help my N900 is dead..
Hi everyone
I need your help. I was making a call and my N900 just froze and after that constantly rebooted. I took out the battery as I did not have time to have find a solution at that time and it stopped rebooting. I found the instructions on how to reflash but the problem is that I cant enter the USB mode (hold down u while connecting USB) I thought it might because of the battery but I have left it for 12 hours in charge with it constantly rebooting while connected but still no luck. Second I have searched everywhere on how to get support from Nokia but I cant find that either Can anyone help me with this one ? |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
Sadly Nokia wont help you....Did you used 64bit OS? Try with 32bit Windows or even better with Ubuntu
|
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
also some time battry port both (male and female) become loose and do not fix into each other. and device reboot and does not start.many people don't think in this way and send to some repair center and they are charged for nothing but bending the clips of battry only
if you think this is the the problem then be carefull while doing anything with your battry! you may break its clips or may become loosen. Good luck! |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
Thank you guys for the suggestions but Im using 32 bit Windows XP but like I said I cant enter USB mode (holding down u while connecting the USB) because the phone reboots before finalizing the process.
The battery seems to be fine I just think it cant charge because the phone reboots constantly so the yellow light is shown for 1 second and then reboots. |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
is it rebooting while the phone is off???
cause if u shut it off and try to hold down the u key and connect to pc nothing happens? |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
It is constantly rebooting unless I remove the battery than it does nothing until I either turn it on or connect the usb (or charger) then it continues to reboot.
|
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
ok try this,
remove ur battery and hold down the powerkey for about 2 min and while holding down the powerkey put the battery back and see what happens, if it still rebooting then prepare a reflash on ur pc and when at the point no usb devise found waiting... then hold down the u key and connect the phone and lets hope that will work and by reflash i mean not including the emmc |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
Thank you for the suggestion again. I hope you are not making fun of me by letting me hold the power button for 2 minutes with no battery in :)
Anyway I tried your suggestion with the Flasher waiting state but still the same.. Is my phone really dead and no way to save it ? |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
My guess is that you need a fully charged battery and you don't have one. This is a time where having spent $10 or so on an independent charger and a few dollars on an extra battery would come in handy.
|
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
I wonder if your power button is stuck, hence the reason why it tries to boot as soon as you plug in the USB or charger.
Get it to a repair centre first before you decide it's dead. It may just be a case of releasing a stuck power button. As for battery problems. If you've got a mate with another N900 (slim chance) or a 5800 (more chance) try their battery in your phone. |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
Thank you I guess you could be right that it cant get a charge because of the constant reboot. So I might need to find a way to charge it without being in the phone.

I am trying to recharge with the USB method again as we speak if it is a case of the battery not being strong enough. I have never reflashed before so maybe somone can verify that the procedure and firmware above should be ok. |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
Does anyone know if the N900 charges while in USB mode. I started the USB mode with the phone connected to the charger. A yellow light is shown so I hope it is charging.
|
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
The reflash seems to have been successful, according to the status messags you posted. And yes, it should charge while in USB mode. If you see the yellow light flashing, everything should be fine at least with the charging process.

Thanks but its not flashing just constant yellow ? |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
constant? what happens, if you disconnect and reconnect the charger?
|
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
I found a thread with the same problem (it seems):
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ad.php?t=65012 According to this it might be a dead battery. |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
The yellow light suppose to blink while in the USB mode, does it?

I think, one post of the same content is enough... You can easily edit your post, btw. |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
Ok, remove and insert the battery back for abt 45munits, and see what will happen. But first u need charge your battery separately using a universal charger to "kick" the battery, that's the term though. Try that.

Re: Help my N900 is dead..
Constant yellow is charging in autonomous mode, that is at a low rate (100mA), possibly a problem with bme (which is the software on the N900 that normally controls the charging) not sure though, it should charge normally when connected in USB mode.
EDIT: When you say USB mode, do you mean USB mode at the bootloader? In that case I guess it would be constant yellow because BME hasn't been loaded yet to control the charging, it should charge eventually like that but will take a long time (i.e. 10x longer than normal charging from the wall plug charger). |

Tanks for the comment. I will try to leave it connected to my PC overnight. With USB mode I mean to get a charge I hold down "u" while connected to charger and then you see a USB icon in the upper right corner and I get the constant Yellow light. I tired again to connect the battery to a usb cable for 10 minutes to give it a kick but I still have the same problem. |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
It is official. I have tried all the tricks in the book.
I have fully charged the battery in an external charger. Flashed the (Vanilla) EMMC, took out battery and then firmware straight after. I have tried putting the phone in R&D mode and all other tricks I have found on the internet. The status now is that it boots and the black screen with the white dots start to roll back an forward and then the screen dims (dots continue) and then the phone goes off and after 30 seconds the boot cycle starts again.. and again... and again.. I am getting desperate here HELP... |

Thank you for the reply the battery is fine before and after the charge. I have tried with different versions but its true I have only focused on the Global region but I dont have much hope in that to tell you the truth. I guess I have to bury it and have a ceremony next weekend :) |
Re: Help my N900 is dead..
if you still have receipt it is covered under warranty(2years from date of sale)....nokia repair centre would either repair it or replace it.
