Symbian "ANNA"? O.o
Anybody studied the specs of the latest Nokia offering (X7)?
It runs what they call "Symbian Anna". WTF is that, and when did it happen? Unless they've taken to renaming existing OS's to further confuse the hell outa some people, they've been dropping quiet ones. |
Re: Symbian "ANNA"? O.o
It's Symbian PR2.0
(like on Android, they gave the firmware names) |

Perhaps we have understood this wrong. Perhaps simply no longer naming like Symbian V5.3rd, Symbian^2 or something like that? No longer Version Numbers! We will get now female Names! :) A Single Company begins, has success, and the uncreative managers say only: "Look at them! We should have the same system to have the same success." (never worked, but they don't know) So google strarted with android and gave them names from cookies. Gingerbread, at example. Microsoft (a company that knows exactly what customers wants, ever!) took names from Fruits. At example: Windows Phone 7 Mango! Now, with a long-sighted CEO, Nokia took the only thing that is more popular than Cookies and Fruits. Now we got Symbian Anna! Yay! Praise Elop! :D |
Re: Symbian "ANNA"? O.o
Even I have this confusion.
Symbian^3 PR2.0 is Symbian Anna or The latest symbian OS is Symbian Anna (meaning no more Symbian^3/4 stuff). Guess, will have to wait for the next name. That would clear all... |
Re: Symbian "ANNA"? O.o
It's still an inferior UI wich looks kinda childish, with some benefits like the portrait qwerty virtual keyboard. Took them forever to implent that in symbian. If they hired realsportcars and the SPB crew they could fire all software engineers at Nokia. Wich they will probably when the symbian updates seize to happen..

Re: Symbian "ANNA"? O.o
It is simply a name of update. It logical that they have started using names, most people will remember it easily, not like numbers.
It took way to long to understand this by companies and google is the first one to truly start using it. Anyway, it is for us:) |

Thats a really new fact for me. I have a big problem remembering names and faces. Numbers are no problem for me as for many others. And I'm able to sort them without any problems. I can tell you within seconds which one is the biggest and ergo the newest version. I have a puzzle for you: Symbian Anna Symbian Roswita Symbian Helga Symbian Cintia Symbian Doris Symbian Fatma Symbian Cindy Symbian Christine Symbian Birgit Symbian Tamara Symbian Barbara Which one is the newest release? If a app runs under "Birgit", will it work at "Helga"?! |

i am also not saying that small updates should have names. Ps your example for dying symbian is bad one:P All symbian users dreams about so many girls:D I have question for you, whats the name of latest android for phones? whats the version number? You probably remember both but when you talk about latest android, you say gingerbread. I am just saying that i think words are more natural for most people then numbers |
Re: Symbian "ANNA"? O.o
i think symbian will fallow naming new update like android way(alphabet),
A - anna B - bina (maybe) C - cindy D - dina etc,,,,,,, Maybe"""""" :-) Bytheway,i had E72 b4 so E6 looks awesome on preveiw |
Re: Symbian "ANNA"? O.o
symbian Anna is for sure a rename of symbian 4. I have to admit even if I prefer Meego/Maemo the new UI in symbian looks promising.
I hope it will succes and tthe new symbian phones sells like hell in europeen and asia. I hope the stupid board directors, payed by Microsoft, get kicked in theyr fat asses cause they decided go wp7. But I guess I am just naive cause the directorsboard will for sure do everything to make symbian/Meego fail. |

Re: Symbian "ANNA"? O.o
Maybe they should use the Ubuntu naming convention, so "Adventurous Anna", "Beautiful Bridget", "Classy Claire" etc.
lol. |

Maemo 6/Harmattan should be renamed Trixie or Sapphire, like the sticky stripper she is. So much promise, such little satisfaction... ;)

Re: Symbian "ANNA"? O.o
For a new N900 firmware update, they have to call it "Sassie Cassie".

PR2.0/Anna brings new icons, a new web browser UI and other security and stability enhancements. Symbian^4 always promised a new Symbian UI which is what we will be getting in the Symbian3.0/whatever name update after the summer. Fact is, PR2.0 has been delayed and missed the targeted Q1 release and now they renamed it and announced 2 new devices to try to get some attention to Symbian^3. Symbian^3 owners have been waiting for the so called "new browser", 50+ features and icons since they were announced last year. Turns out that the browser isn't a new one, it is an updated version of the current one and NOT the new one that is built on QTWebkit to be released later this year. The icons...well, there are themes that have basically the same look as the PR2.0/Anna icons. I downloaded a free theme for my N8 and it does make a difference, one that I like. Please don't confuse people by saying that Anna is a renamed Symbian^4. In reality it is a renamed Symbian PR2.0 and does NOT include the new UI (only the icons in 2.0/Anna) or the "New" browser. Nokia is saying New Browser but in actuality it is just the current browser updated to 7.3 from the current 7.2 something. |
