When I do *#0000#, my N900 doesnt even display that much info.

It shows:

V 20.2010.36-2.002
RX-51, Nokia N900
© Nokia

All text is in a yellow bar overlaying the dial pad.

Are you sure it is running Maemo? Can you post screenshots so that we can take a look?

Try turning off the phone, plug in the USB to the pc and N900 while holding the "U" key on the N900 and look for a tiny USB icon in the top right corner on the Nokia screen. If you see it, you will be able to flash your N900.

With the slightest hope, maybe it has the leaked PR1.2 on it. If I remember correctly, those of us who downloaded the firmware before released ended up losing our version info until we either flashed or upgraded the firmware.

Without pictures, we can't tell what it is?

reflash the phone.
Download flasher-3.5 and a new PR1.3 build. Try fresh. Upload an Image of the phone - it could be a fake :(

try using different image (try using outdated version or different region, i'm sure but i think it wont brick your phone. expert advice please..)
could be corrupted image file

its a preproduction unit and ali_canada, flash emmc and kernel like the way i wrote instrictions for you. it will flash differrently compared to other n900's

ali you should go to nokia care center and let them know about it , well if they will ask to pay then it's your right to speak for your money :p

this may mean that the package is missing ,has been absoleted ,
or
is only available from anther source
E: package mp-fremantle-generic-pr has no installation candidate

if it's as tele has said, then you might have to face the reality for having a "limited" version of N900
at least you have a working maemo device, not a fake chinese N900 phone :p
