SMS Counter
 
SMSCounter
Current version: 0.4

With this app you can query SMS and calls info in a given range of dates.

Features:
  • Counts number of SMS received, sent and "spam"
  • Counts number of calls made, received and missed
  • Plots the results in a bar chart per month
  • Show cost of sent SMS
  • Show duration of calls
  • Show cost of calls
  • Options menu to set sms and minute cost
  • Added desktop widget, source adapted from SMSCounterWidget package: http://maemo.org/packages/view/smswidget/

Features planned for next version:
  • Add call counter to desktop widget
  • Remember the last from/to dates between launches
Interesting ideas for future releases:
  • Integration with fMMS to do MMS counting.
  • Having it setup to indicate a start date and a period, and then having a drop down for period
  • Having it pull data usage would be great as well

Looks good.
But I would be more awesome if you could implent costs for sms. So that it would calculate your total cost that month or total.

ammm , as the cost of per sms is not the same in every country , so i think it's not possible.

or .. or it can be .
just add an option to add the price your self and let the app to calculate ;)

Great potential for this app. I would second Wreck's thoughts and also if you can implement the costs for calls, this would be probably the best app for calculating and comparing the bills :) [I am not sure if there is any existing app for this]. One more request, is it possible to have different costs for home and roaming networks?

I consider spam the publicity sms, they are filtered by sender number no longer than 5 digits. It isn't configurable yet, I don't know if they can be filtered this way in other countries.

Cost of calls can be implemented, but I haven't found roaming info in the database.

might as well put phone numbers with letters instead of digits as spam also

i don't know if it's possible to have "normal" number with letters in other countries, but not here in my country. so even if there's only 1 letter in the number, that'd be 100% spam :)

Version 0.2 available!

New features:
  • Show cost of sent SMS
  • Show duration of calls
  • Show cost of calls
  • Options menu to set sms and minute cost

Notice: the call durations are not stored by default in the database, they will be stored since the installation of this version

Wow! Thanks! I have been storing the call duration in the db using the post mentioned in http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...3&postcount=11. Will it create any problem?
I shall get back to you regarding the roaming info in the databse.

I've taken the script from that post too, it shouldn't create any problem. Regarding the roaming info, that is certainly not stored in the db, we must find another way to take it.

It should work, in the options menu use a point as decimal separator, I'll fix this in the next verion.

The application being discussed in this thread is another one: http://maemo.org/packages/view/smscounter/. I think you are referring to smswidget. Last time I tried it, it had the same problem.

There was a fix/hack I posted on that thread, to make smswidget compatible with PR1.2 and later, did you follow those steps? I was able to run it on my N900 6~ months ago, so it should work okay.

OK.. Awesome app. I have a question and a feature request:

I'm not seeing and call durations listed. It's telling me I've made and received X number of calls, but durations are all 0. Is there something I'm missing? Is there something else I need to install? Or does this not work with calls made before the app was installed?

As for a feature ideas:
  • It would be great if this could also integrate with fMMS to do MMS counting.
  • Having it pull data usage would be great as well.
  • Having it setup to indicate a start date and a period, and then having a drop down for period would be super awesome.

For example, new cycle starts on the 12th of every month, or starts on the 10th and the period is 30 days. Then you could have it default to the current cycle, and have a drop down for last cycle, cycle before, etc. :)

If you do a widget, you could use the cycle info above to offer an auto-save and reset of the data counters, since widgets are "always on" and can get time-date notifications. You could also store that data use per cycle info in a database so it can be seen historically instead of the snapshot of total usage and "since date X" we have now. You could also use the cycle information to show historic use (plot last 12 cycles as an x-y line chart, etc.)

Again, this is all just ideas. I would love to see any of them implemented, but certainly love what you've already done! Would love to see a widget version of this too.

Oh, one major request:
Have it remember the last from/to dates between launches? That would be really nice. :)

Having it pull data usage would be great as well.
This should work with calls made/received after installing SMSCounter, originally the calls durations weren't stored in the database.

In version 0.4 I included a desktop widget that counts SMSs, I'm working on version 0.5 that will include also calls counter.

This app is so cool! I love the way my N900 help me keep track of stuff, and this is a nifty piece of software wich does exactly that =)
