Unable to Boot Developer Edition Alpha Release
 

I am using http://repository.maemo.org/meego/n9....2011-04-15.1/

I am unable to boot.
I am stuck at smia_reglist_import kernel message

following are the steps i did
dd image to sdcard
install uboot
insert sdcard
reboot

Following is output i get
Booted kernel successfully
Show Meego Splash Screen
Shows smia_reglist_import module loaded messages
That's IT

care for little help?

Did you unzip the image before dd?

# bzip2 -d mg*.raw.bz2
then dd the *.raw to your mmc.

It should be listed in the wiki, but isn't.....

Extracting isn't listed, but the wiki said image not archive, if I remember right.

True....but it's easily overlooked. I took me a while to figure out my problem (same as OP) as I had overlooked it also. I don't use dd enough to know that you can't use it with a compressed image (and it doesn't complain when you do). It could be clearer in the wiki......but it's not wrong:D

Yes i uncompressed it

I have used almost all images in DE all same problem

I checked it with 2 different cards Kingston & Scandisk
Both same results

First boot takes a while, are you sure you're leaving it long enough? Also the screen blanks off so touching the screen when it goes black is necessary.

If it boots to a black screen - press the power button to unlock it. ;)

Somebody file an enhancement request - do not lock screen on boot.

Hehee, if it was that simple :D
It seems that the latest DE daily images are just broken ;)
Hope the developers get the problems sorted out, otherwise there could be even larger delay in 1.2 DE release...

this build (daily) failed on boot for me as well.
Strongly suggest everyone sticks to the weekly build directly linked via the "download" link on the wiki (refer to stskeeps' original post)
if you're just looking to have a play with a usable version.
also suggest people have a play with the n900DE tablet version.

I'm currently updating mg-handset-armv7nhl-n900-de-acceptance-1.1.99.2.20110412.6.DE.2011-04-15.1 via zypper to see if it breaks anything.
(libqttest rpm fails on install)

suggest everyone playing with these images create a bugzilla profile and start logging bugs for the Devs. this is the best way for the community to help!

Yes, current daily builds are broken because MeeGo trunk is broken. See eg. this https://bugs.meego.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16660.

I've tried this, and for me it is broken....
I'm not sure how other people got this working, it should just be a simple case of bunzip2/dd and that's it - nothing complicated.

But the whole thing seems busted atm, I'm getting ext4 journal errors...and it's not SD card or the way I'm doing the dd - I have done previous images without issue.

Either I'm being (and a colleague) exceptionally stupid, or the build is stuffed.
Given the non-alpha release is soon, assuming it isn't my stupidity maybe the next release will actually be tested? :mad:
