Mail for Exchange not working

Hi All,

could anybody help me with MfE on my N900 (PR1.3)?

Problem: app 14 days ago "something happened" (not in my phone) and MfE stopped working. It writes me "Invalid host address for Exchange server". (Exchange 2003)

I tried to delete my account from the phone but it is not possible to make the new one. While setting the server address, MfE writes again and again the same error (invalid host address...).

Everything worked pretty well before.

Would anyone have any suggestions?

Thanx.

PM

Have you tried pinging the server to see if it's alive?

Yes, the server is alive, MfE works with S60 and iPhone but not with Maemo. Works also with the web browser interface, but not with MfE... I really don't know where could be the problem.

Anyone with the same problem?

Re: Mail for Exchange not working

It's not the same problem, but different symptoms.

MfE stopped working a while ago.
After updated to PR1.3 it still worked ok, but suddenly it stopped.
I tried to re-create the account in Modest, but didn't work.
Now I'm on CSSU, and it still doesn't work.

When I'm creating the account, after the first screen where email, username, password, and domain is entered, it remains there forever.

Looking at the logs, it repeats the same loop over and over again.
I deleted (moved) the contacts database, just in case it was corrupted, but it still gets stuck at the same point.

Some logs excerpt:

(Then it loops again)

And this is a more recent debug log of activesync startup after normal booting.
Just in case any of you could see something suspicious.

Mine never worked due to lack of provisioning on N900. If your exchange server raised security requirements with provisioning, your N900 will never connect. That is my biggest peeve about this phone!!!!

Have you tried the troubleshooting steps in the Mail for Exchange FAQ?

I'm using Nokia Messaging (intellisync in the backgroud) service to get my GMail messages pushed to my N900.
It works pretty well.

You only have to create a new account in Modest selecting Nokia Messaging as type, and then give the GMail data.

HTH,
Rafa.

I'm now in CSSU and still have the same looping problem.

Going a little further, I've tested running as-daemon directly from command line terminal, and discovered something: it ends abruptly with a segmentation fault in any case.
- if executed from "user" profile, it cannot connect to dcop, but there isn't any as-daemon process running, and segfault at the end

My guess is that loop happens when as-daemon is constantly re-launched after each segfault that isn't recorded in logs.

I'll check with a colleague which MfE is working to see versions, installed packages, etc.
Stay tuned.

Rafa.

Hi,

any progress on this?

I have the exact same thing, but I seem to remember something about having fiddled around with a addressbook sync/thing. Maybe the real problem is something with the addresbook (as stated in the output of as-daemon).

thx,

B.

Hi again,

I can add that the process that is hanging, is e-addressbook-factory. Not sure why,

I'm having the same issue as vikas-1977, I cleared the settings for MfE and tried entering a new server but the settings dialog just sits there. Seems like it contacts Nokia servers before presenting the next configuration page and those server are down. Just speculation though.

Also I tried removing all my contacts and that didn't seem to help.

Re: Mail for Exchange not working

Rather annoying problem. I still have no solution for it. I do see that "as-daemon -D" is launched, disappears and is launched again creating an infinite loop. It more than likely tries to do something, fails and is called again.

Anyone any idea what other routes to take to get this fixed?

thx !!

Sorry to tell you, but if your server requires provisioning, N900 will not be able to deliver as it can not enforce required security features. This is why I ultimately had to part with N900 as a main device.

It depends on your exchange server. If your company has set it up as provisioned, then no. If not, it may be that you have a setting wrong. I know some services (like Google) no longer properly work with MFE. If you search for threads there are sometimes workarounds.
