[Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
You can't have enough facebook clients can you?
I mainly started this project three days ago cause all other facebook clients are lacking some features in one way or another, and it was a good way to start looking web APIs. I plan to include all features (that I can include, I can't send messages using the API for some reason, so while the UI is coded, facebook doesn't allow it). If something doesn't work (Notes and places for example), then it's not implemented. Also, I'd appreciate some help with the icons before someone sues me :) Depending on what the final name will be (I went with Sociality right now since it has the highest votes), the via Nokia N900 will probably change, though I am planning to have something like Via App Name for Nokia N900. Anyway, a quick screenshot: http://i55.tinypic.com/2ii7wav.jpg So yeah, this is a quick release (again, I only started working on this 3 days ago). (Just some quick tips, you can create a new album in Photos -> tap title bar, I noticed this was being requested a lot around the forums, you can also create events and embed videos in status updates). You can find the name poll here http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/?p=42 App name is Sociality (apt-get install socaility or get it through HAM/fapman) |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

because the name was sociality, seems like nokia social applications.
Would be nice if integrated to twitter as well. |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
Excellent!!!
|
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
Definitely awesome :).
|
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
look good for a 3 days work :)
Anyway just want to give you feed back from testing. - Acceptant testing The program work. Requires double tabs to select icons. No icons to start app yet. Notifications opened in another windows rather than open in one windows. Still a bit more to go in graphics :) Good work |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Code:
/usr/bin/sociality |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
Should be possible to create an icon in terminal, shouldn't it?
@ MoAG: If you're still looking for a better name for this app, how about something like QTFace (pronounced cuteface) or QTFace900. |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
Works fine for me.
But cripes, that font is small @.@. Hope a bigger font is on the to do list. Great little app though. Keep up the good work MoAG. |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
erm... tried starting it via terminal /usr/bin/sociality
a window popped up saying Login to Facebook but nothing seems to happen? did I miss a step? |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
if i'm not mistaken, this is part of facebook's security. just sign in to grant sociality access to your data. if you decide to uninstall sociality, log back into facebook and remove that app.
|
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
Meh, I forgot to install the icon (it was in the sources), should be fixed in the next upload.
The white window is an embedded browser, it should direct you to the login page, I actually tried to have a custom login window but it's against facebook's rules (since I could store the password that way...), if it's not working for some reason, try apt-get --reinstall install libqt4-webkit About the name, it was actually called qtbook at the start, but facebook's policies don't allow "face" or "book" in the name so I had to go with something else. |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
hmmm.... still doesn't seem to do anything after reinstalling libqt4-webkit.
It just stays in the page saying Login to Facebook and nothing seems to happen. I tried logging into facebook via Microb to see if the permission page appears but nothing happens |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
as per MAG its great it looks like it has real potential to be the number one fookbace app on the N900
@mag are the icons easily changed i wouldnt mind having a little play with them but i wouldnt want to have to bother you with all my ideas just the finished set |

OK how about this: "Fizzog" - N900 Facebook Client, "QTFizzog" or "QTMug." Taken from the Urban Dictionary~ Fizzog~ Front of head from forehead to chin; face. "Look at the fizzog (face) on that!" phizog; face; facade; mug; boat race. |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
ok the latest update now working with icon appearing on the menu....
no problem on login to facebook.... got only one bug since i installed the latest version.... somehow this apps suddenly turn off by itself after a few minutes online.... |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
Seeing as Mug is slang for face, and Mag is short for magazine, a type of book (Oh, and also your initials) ...
...how about MugMag :D |

Just got the latest update, but still can't find an icon anywhere. |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
How cool is that...
The Genius MAG strikes again ;-) Looks great and very promising for such an early release! Some problems I ran into: When started from desktop shortcut it crashes frequently When started from XTerm I had to authenticate again, but it seems stable so far... MAG, before everyone (incl. me ;-)) starts asking for new features etc., do you have a roadmap what will be implemented next/in the future available? |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
great app!!! :)
Im not programist but can help with polish translation so if you need let me know :) |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
this app is brilliant and it works, it's even better than facebook no more half qoutes and messages and waiting ages for page to respond lol nice one MAG :)

I don't use roadmaps, but probably Notes and Places since those are the main things that are missing :P If you noticed in a single album view's menu bar, you'd see image upload is planned (not working yet of course), and if you look at the code for that you'll see I'm also planning tag support for images. Translation should be easy with Qt Linguist, I think I've wrapped all strings that should be translated with tr("") so it should already be translatable. |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
where can I find the input file for QT Linguist?
|
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
beside the apps crashes after a few minutes other works greats...
love seeing "via N900" while updating my status.... great job my friends...keep developing this apps.... |

Thats why I tried launching it from XTerm Quote:
Some more suggestions (assuming most of them are already on your not used, probably virtually existing roadmap :p): 1) Using "Facebook"-theme (blue and white) and maybe some eye-candy graphics and animations :D would be nice instead of a Maemolike UI (black, bold buttons 2) Status-Update with photo and link support 3) Show shared photos and link-previews in news feed 4) Viewing friends albums 5) Refresh-button not in top menubar, but easily accessible in content area with 1-click 6) Searching Facebook 7) Links in news feed should be clickable/open browser 8) Show who "liked" a post |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
any chance to use this great app while using tor app . because facebook doesnt work in our country without proxy or sth
thanks for ur great work |

1) Agreed there, need to check legal issues there though. 2) Link support's there, photo support will be in when I add photo uploading. 3) Working on it. 4) Will work on it 5) I'll try to subclass QScrollArea and do it like the iPhone (pull list down from the top to refresh). 6) Will work on it. 7) I'm trying to find out why QLabel isn't doing this manually. 8) working on it :) |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
well done MAG. superb work. finally a fb app that has is actively being developed. kudos.
i tested it just now. i very much like what i am seeing. massive amounts of improvements to be made as it is still a bit raw for now but there is a lot of potential. i particularly like the way the notifications is put in a nice little horizontal button at the bottom of the screen. just a few ideas: 1. cache photo albums? also have an option to clear cache in case we want to recover storage space 2. the notifications button should be everywhere because right now i get say 5 notifications and i have to toggle back and forth to get back to the notification menu after i view each notification. btw, those icons look familiar.....iphone icons?? :) keep up the good work! |

just a little thing, it keeps crashing for some reason now, every time i ,load a wall or a news feed, or a group, it crashes, why ????? but its still AWESOME :D |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

One more: in comments-view horizontal scrolling should be avoided, makes scrolling a pain and a small bug: Like-button changes to Unlike when hit as it should, but after reload it is shown as Like again... |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
There is an issue with swedish character, åäö doesn't come ut right when you make a post.
|
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
I can;t download it.
Which repository do I need? I have Maemo extras-devel (fremantle, free non-free) Thanks |
Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
With jumbling the letters, the best I came up with was
boofcake I kind of like fakeoboe but it has too many syllables. |

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt
The app currently appears on my phone as 'facebook' and its got a nice shiny facebook icon to go with it as well. I think that's perfect already, so leave the name/icon as they are.
