What does WSEGL_UseHWSync=1 do?

Re: [How To] Speed UP N900 to 300%

Not a bad start of a summary of what I did to my phone too ...

possible additions :
- used maemodder to enable hardware acceleration and LV-profile,
- QCPUfreq to OC to 250-805 and enable smartreflex
- Theme Customizer / CSSU tuner / transition control for ultrafast transitions
- Autodisconnect for improved battery-life (has nothing to do with speed)

I am no expert, but this helped me to love my phone more than ever before, because it does what & when I want, and not a second later :D

Be aware that none of this is guaranteed to work on every device!

lol
and yeah one more addtion :p
use maemodder and select Dscobst transition :P
and tracker cfg = check lowmemorymode and throttle index upto 10 and save the settings the restart tracker :P

I'm looking forward to reading how you're going to back up your 300% claim ;)

Please lets see some benchmarks/graphs or any other data.

It is nice you guys know your way around but it is common on TMO to provide descent WARNINGS when posting stuff outside of devel-forums. Keep in mind that this will be read by someone who just does what you tell to do so a disclaimer is also good for you, in the US (hopefully not in many other countries) people will sue you for sure if a howto without disclaimer or descent warning killed their device!

For people who use theme-customizer and want to enable the 9 desktop ability
Choose your settings at themecustomizer in controle pannel then

reinstall hildon-home :
dpkg -i hildon-home_0.3.71-6_armel.deb
and reboot

every thing should be fine

ONLY AFTER INSTALLING CSSU !!!!!

maemodder has all these options .
i hope for the noobs it is really irritating to type commands again and again which are totally unknown to them .
just simply install maemodder and just click according to your desire :)

NoNo you got all wrong
normaly after installing the CSSU
you will have the ability to add more desktops with (manage views) up to 9

but if you used theme-customizer this ability will be gone because theme-customizer uses the normal pr1.3 hildon-home (i guess)
wich will replace the CSSU modified hildon-home

so with the steps i mentioned above (reinstalling CSSU hildon-home) you can use theme-customizer + 9 desktops ability

SO: this is a bug in theme-customizer and has nothing to do with CSSU

That is why i recommend normal users to use cssu-tuner
it has no issus

Ok thanks for the info, but app. maneger says that this version is already installed.hildon-home_0.3.71-6_armel.deb

So which version is stock PR1.3/theme customizer? and wich one is CSSU?

I have CSSU and theme customizer installed

So when are we gonna see some data to back up this "300%" claim?

Or is it completely unsubstantiated and you're just using it to draw attention to your post?

Re: [How To] Speed UP N900 to 300%

Ok i've managed to enable the 9 desktops again.

In X-term, with internet connection and root access type:

apt-get install --reinstall hildon-home

this command installs the hildon-home_0.3.71-6_armel.deb
when done reboot.

application manager or dpkg will report the CSSU hildon-home if you have it installed but theme-customizer will replace some data that CSSU hildon-home's one uses so reinstalling hildon-home should give you back the 9 desktops ability

Probably you are overloaking n900 over than 805 or even to 805

You may try using the Default profile and stay on 600 mhz

Re: [How To] Speed UP N900 to 300%

I was intrigued by the title of this thread. But was disappointed when I saw it as there was nothing new. Other than CSSU which itself doesn't really improve "speed", I've covered them all and more. Check my signature for my article also if you haven't already.

I run mine at 1.1GHz + tweaks and it still doesn't feel 300% faster unfortunately.

I think every steps and commands should be explained to make clear of what we are exactly doing to the N900.

And steps to reverse in case it doesn't work.

well what can i say then
Maybe with these tweaks running n900 at 600mhz not 1.1ghz
will give you the same result of running n900 at 1.1ghz

Hello every body this tutorial is about speedping up n900 using tweaks and some apps
it is a simple tutorial specialy i'm writing it with my N900
ok let us start:
first you need :

1-) kernel-power v47 : in terminal (root)
apt-get install kernel-power-flasher
then : in terminal (root)
echo "blacklist bq27x00_battery" >>/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
then reboot

2-) swappolube app : in terminal (root)
apt-get install swappolube
then launch it and choose the Proposed then Apply then Store

3-) CSSU (i think no need to explain)

4-) in terminal (root)
leafpad /etc/powervr.d/hildon-desktop.ini
then change
WSEGL_UseHWSync=0
to
WSEGL_UseHWSync=1
then save

Reboot And Enjoy

And few important things :

Try to reduce the (or oganize the menu using APMEFO)
And disable extras when finished
And you can enable smart reflex with the default profile wich will give you 2x time of usage (byt becarefull not to overcloak n900 over than 805 mhz when using smart reflex)

And finaly some patched apps for kernel-power v47
1-) patched qcpu app to tell the correct tempreture
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=125
download the the attachment then install it

2-) patched conky app to tell the correct tempreture
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=136
download the attachment then install it

EDIT

adition tweaks

1-) apt-get install tracker-cfg
then launch it yoyu will see a lowmemorymode
choose it and scroll down to throttle then change it to 10
save and reboot

2-) using cssu-tuner for fast transitions after installing cssu
change it's settings in controle pannel to transitions ms to 200 (and you can try different values)

how ever don't use them-customizer cause it will disable the 9 desktop ability that cssu provide until a reinstall hildon-home

BTW all these tweaks are done without overcloak
you can overcloak to get even a faster performance
:)

And i have been using all these tweaks and no problems

The stuff you posted here isn't suitable to make the device faster. IMO you forgot a lot of things and some others just don't work. It's too bad that the Ovi-Store doesn't accept to modify system variables so that you can't try my little program. But I think the Ovi-Store sucks anyway but the community here is not much better.

well let us face it
i agree not every change /tweak will improve the speed of n900
but i disagree that they just don't work

I have my n900 since the first day of release and i have reflashed it about thousands of times and each time i figure out a new thingy
so after all these things i have posted
i can tell that my n900 is 3x times faster than a fresh reflash that has no tweaks

That all what i got to say

A very simple bench mark could be something like:
Code:

echo "2^2^20" | time bc
(you'll need to install 'bc' from the repos). It makes the CPU calculate a big sum. It will give you a few timing values at the end - these can be used to compare before and after results.

FYI, my N900 gives:
Code:

real    0m 20.64s
user    0m 19.05s
sys    0m 0.05s

That result by itself doesn't show much - you need to do a before-tweak and after-tweak comparison....

I lowered my speed to 750 mhz just to try out smartreflex, which does seem to conserve power, making the battery last longer. Just for you, I increased the speed. The moment I went beyond 805 I rebooted.

I don't think so. I don't test things, just go by my feelings. I would guess 30 percent or so.
