Browser Refresh??

Hello community,

My browser keeps refreshing (not at a constant rate of time), but I noticed it does it whenever I am buffering (youtube or other players). Basically it plays for a little bit, and then it refreshes (and plays the video all over again). It is really annoying :(. Has anyone encountered this/any idea? Thanks a lot!

Re: Browser Refresh??

Do you have any addons installed? If you pause video, does it finish loading and the refresh when it's done? Are you sure it's a refresh and not a re-render? Microb does that sometimes once page finishes loading.

Nope, it seems like the only times it refreshes the whole page, is when its buffering. So basically it would load the page, buffer a part of the video, and then when the video reaches to the point where it has not buffered yet, instead of buffering, it would reload the whole page.I have no addons installed. Any clues? Thanks for any help!

woup, just had an incident where the video (youtube) was buffered all the way, and about halfway through, it stopped, and the page refreshed. :( :(

It does not. It happens on any video that needs to buffer. Im thinking, java problem?

Re: Browser Refresh??

There's no java on the N900 - at least not unless you manually install it and then it's not browser-integrated.

It's flash. This sounds similar to what happens if you're using the leaked flash 10.1 plugin - are you?

What is your browser's cache size? Set it to the max, no idea if that'll help but it's worth checking.

When you have any web page open; click the menu bar -> Options -> Settings -> Memory cache size -> 40MB

Just set it to automatic. No progress :(

Re: Browser Refresh??

Delete you flash cache which is seperate to the browser cache:
Code:

/home/user/.macromedia
The next time you visit a flash site it will reload what it needs.

Perhaps delete the cache and then restart the browser or the phone before testing.

Thats a directory, and it has Flash_Player in it. What is the command I need to send?

JonWW 2011-05-25 19:38

Re: Browser Refresh??

I spelt macromedia wrong and I'm not sure about the rm command line you need to tell it to recurse directories.

well, firefox says "click here to download plugin" in youtube. How does microb do it?

Re: Browser Refresh??

Have you downloaded the flash 10 plugin beta (has a red bar in top left corner of the flash object)? That caused similiar behaviour for me.

shanttu 2011-05-25 20:34

Re: Browser Refresh??

I have had the same refresh-problem with microb for a month or so. I have disabled all addons and reflashed my device (not only because of this). This happenes mostly on heavy sites. I use flashblock so flash should not be the problem.
I'll try set cache settings next.
This is a very annoying issue when browsing, but I am getting used to it =/

Is your phone overclocked? (not sure how that would matter, but just trying to see similarities between our cases)

Waittt a second. Does this mean I cannot play a youtube video on firefox? Even if I get Tweak Flash Version ?? It keeps telling me to update the flash player.. ? :(

Yes, usually to 1 GHz and have lots of devel-stuff installed. I have tried to narrow factors down without success.

It seems that setting cache from 5 MB to automatic made the trick for me. I really hope this lasts and is not just placebo.

Unfortunately it was placebo. Especially heavy sites reloads themselves.
I have talked about this on Finnish boards as well without success.
Things ruled out so far:
-Flash (with flashblock addon)
-Cache size
-Cache cleared
-user settings cleared (rm -rf /home/user/.mozilla/microb)
-addons disabled
-connection type (3G and WIFI)

Any suggestions?

So, it's not only youtube site, it's other sites, just heavy ones. Assumingly, youtube page, without the flash (blocked).

I'm not sure flashblocker blocks flash, I think it blocks the site flash, meaning it replaces the site flash with one of its own (we bay be talking about another addon?).

I'm not sure if you can find a heavy site that doesn't have flash. Darn thing is omnipresent nowadays.

Do the same sites work fine in Firefox 4 for N900? Or Opera.

Also, there's something I'm missing here. You said you flashed it, so I understand that clean-flashed-completely-naked N900 still does that for you? Because it doesn't for usa and we all have the same software (Assuming you flashed PR1.3 0 - did you?).

Or did you reflash, restore and then try?

One site where refreshing always happens is Finnish news site www.hs.fi The 'line' on navigation bar under site url starts from the beginning as well. Scrolling the site is horrible using any connection.
Opera seemed to run very well.
I mentioned about this on Finnish message board and people said their MicroB runned browsed the site ok on their devices.
I've never even tried Youtube's site because of Cutetube, but sites with Flash-videos are running fine even on fullscreen.

I flashed my device using latest firmware image and restored apps and settings many months back, when I did not have this problem or CSSU.

are you using power kernel? if yes then your voltage is too low thats why some websites keeps refreshing endlessly...

Yes, version 46 on ideal voltage. Too bad, if this is the reason.

Changegames 2011-06-04 13:30

Re: Browser Refresh??

yeah thats is the reason been playing what voltage is the best for me for overall stability and XLV did the trick for me...

on starving my n900 is so picky whenever i try to play video files and on ideal i get that endless refresh on microb.
