You know what, I wouldn't mind a new model from Nokia running Maemo 5 and CSSU

Frankly, I am now quite happy with n900 with CSSU updates, UI is absolutely fantastic and looks of the screens were better anyways

If the newer model from Nokia had the following L
- Voice dialling
- physical button to take and end the calls.
- dont care about voice activated navigation on maps but if it is made available it would be cool
- Lighter in weight
- more battery charge
- More CPU and RAM
- Capacitive or resistive but pinch and zoom in out would be great
- FM Transmitter should stay
- Bigger screen size 4" - 4.5 "
- A USB that is rock solid
- Keep the FM Transmitter

thats it.

As long as the new model doesn't have a USB port that falls off and has a better battery i'd buy it, even if it has the same old hardware

I would have to add plus a capacitive screen. I think it's the great missing hardware on the N900.

thats more of a matter of preference, personally I can't stand them, I use now and again and its diabolically bad for me.

I totally agree that capacitive vs. resistive is preference. However, I'd like to have multi-touch capabilities.

P.S. I like resistive cuz it actually registers my touch properly, unlike capacitive which likes to go "is that a swipe or a tap? oh btw, I'm not actually sure if you touched me or not"... probably cuz I have cooler and smaller fingers?

Same here - for me N900 screen is much more responsive than the one on N8 for example.

Thanks for posting the thread - we get this request all the time.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong but the Maemo 5 UI is much better suited to a resistive screen because capacitive is less accurate.

Re: You know what, I wouldn't mind a new model from Nokia running Maemo 5 and CSSU

I just would like a bigger screen, from a minimum of 4.2" to a tab-like 7". The best imho is the Dell Streak if it would be running correctly Maemo or Meego.

Cpu and Ram may also be better but that does not bother me like the small display.

I'd like a N800/N810 with a big battery, N900 internals and PR1.3. I wouldn't mind if the GSM modem was removed to put in a bigger battery. I just want a jumbo sized Maemo device.

Re: You know what, I wouldn't mind a new model from Nokia running Maemo 5 and CSSU

Now I would give 500€ for the following device

N810 look or E7 look with qwerty without dpad,
resistive screen without bezel (gaming controls outside the screen like the xpressmusic button - can be used to answer - decline calls )
full kickstand.
5" inch screen 720p
32gb emmc
usb otg
2 μSD slots
compass
Maemo 5
1.2Ghz 512Ram
all other N900 features

I'd be happy if they simply updated and refined the present model.

Maemo is the phone OS I like best, it truly stands alone in the pocket pc/phone marketplace.

I would stand in line like an Apple fanboy, to get the next maemo equipped device!

I like N900 resistive screen coz drawing(mypaint, penpen) apps works.

You know what I'd like?

A blonde and a brunette sitting by my lap right now.

Really, stop speculating guys... This won't take us anywhere.

No speculations mate, it's just a wish and just thinking why is there so much fuss when the current OS is already so good to beat the ones that are comming to the market later this year, its just that it lacks some features for a day-to-day phone use.

Keep dreaming your dream might come true.

I'd also love a 5"-7" resistive screen maemo device. Everything else I've used feels like a giant step backwards both in software and hardware.

i wont mind a new n900 without running maemo..
hardware specs for n900 are amazing.. its the os limitations that ****ed it up :/

Call me elitist but too bad some phone manufacturers presume some characteristics in their users, like, being smarter then a toddler.

HDMI output

Agreed, it is beyond me why the just can 't push out new sillicon for Maemo 5 while at the same time it is nicely maturing.

It took me till 2005 to realize that windows XP (that was also nothing more than the next iteration) ran smooth starting from 2GB RAM with my ussage behavior.
Nowadays people are still using it.

Why Maemo 5 has such a short life?

It is the software that counts in this case. I would pay for a license.
I would pay 100 euro extra to have any latest hwkb android device, plastic garbage or not, delivered with Maemo 5.

As for Nokia , a device , a software platform: The leaked 2010 jessie girl device shout have been brought to the masses to enjoy an even smoother Maemo.

that said, the screen of N900 is unbeaten. I love the capability to zoom with one hand honding the device and circular movement. An iPhone or N8 is higly frustrating in comparison and it is always a relief to return to N900.

Resistive supports multitouch, I dont know why its never implemented in the OS though.

HDMI is a nice idea and I'm never against better connectivity.

But in the context of a highly portable device, that can be used globally.
Composite wins hands down!
If you see a tv, you can plug into it. That simple reality eliminates my need for a notebook or tablet, in fact it beats their usefulness for my needs.

I've spent more than one rainy night in a hotel in Guatemala, Mexico etc. And enjoyed a movie using my trusty n900 and the typical available, cheap CRT TV.

Most resistive screens don't support multitouch - it's a hardware problem, not a software one. (Ignoring "fake" multitouch software solutions).

And maybe capactively-resistive screen? I've heard there's such a contraption :)
