N900 Dead again - This time for real.
Alright guys,
Well it would seem my N900 is dead. I received a phone call, answered fine, was talking away... All of a sudden it just started vibrating vigarously, screen went black and then just went off. Now it does nothing at all 100% dead. No lights, no charge - Compleatly dead. Can't get it warrentied (tried already) because i am fed up of reinstalling and reinstalling apps everytime its died on me(this is my 3rd n900) What would you guys recommend i get next? I am thinking android, but with a keyboard...Not lets not go Desire Z (hear too many bad things about them) Craig |
Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
3 n900? What did you do with them? Power kernel+5000mhz on dying profile?!

Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.

Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
I'm going for a Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro once it's released, though it has a smaller screen(3"), it does have a keyboard. Unfortunately it has a capacitive screen, but painting on such a small screen wouldn't make sense anyway.

Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
@Temporal: One died because of my stupidity in flashing, second was sent back because of the USB port and this one for some unknown random reason...Not my luck eh?
@stew-b: I wasn't aware the Salaxy s2 had a HW keybord? |
Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
it doesnt but looking at videos of swype in action looks like you could type just as fast if not faster when you get the hang of it,i was also looking for a hw keyboard android device but swype may just sway it for me...

When i do type i have a tendancy to 'touch type', I just can't get the hand of it on a touch scree, The other thing is screen space, Fianlly playing games, i do play a few games and like to have physical buttons and not have my big fingers covering half the screen :D Craig |
Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
can you still hard reset it?
|
Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
reflah the the phone and next time use a piece o f software called backup-menu it backs up the n900 root filesytem so when you reflash the phone next time (or flash the phone replacement) you just restore you old system instead starting from scratch so all you apps settings and everything else will be there

Hypothetically speaking if i got another N900 it wouldn't be thebacking up(as really i know i should have done it) but the faffing about this time round i would have to get it how i want again :( Craig |
Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
What would it be worth as 'spares / Repairs' The parts are all in tact (physically) i.e. Screen, Keyboard, Camera modual etc.

Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
how about removing the battery and putting it back? or better yet, borrow the same type of battery from someone...leave it alone for a day perhaps?
i just can't believe that something is broken without messing something in the first place. unless you really overclocked it to 5 ghz...lol so putting the usb cable while pressing "u" in the hw keyboard is not working? |

When you plug the charger in Nothing happens at all, no LED no screen dead. I sometims OC'd when playing a game to 800mhz, but at the time of death it wasn't. Its like there is no power at all getting to the phone no matter the battery/connection type. Craig |

Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
Do you want to sell it to me CraigRobo.
I want to get the camera Unit on it. My camera Unit lense got dirty by the service place and taking pretty terrible image because of the lense coating got smudged. If I can buy just the camera Unit then I'm happy :) other wise everything even more happy. Sell to me cheap cheap cheap :) |

Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
For som REALLY bizzar reason - It started to work again after a few days :S wtf...
The only thing is that the phone thinks the battery is always dead even if its fully charged(i used it externally and it charged to a little over 1250mah) So it can't be the battery? The back-up menu software, can anyone tell me how it works please, i have never used it before. Craig |
Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
I was going to jump in erlier on and tell you that no way is that device dead by what you said on this thread but i would love to know what the last thing you installed? or maybe it has a battery connection fault.

Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
Oh backup is easy, just go there choose where you want the backup to be and away you go.

I have to boot into it from restert, its not going to effect powerkernal is it? Craig |

However, the battery although full charges externally and discharges fine externally, once placed into the phone, seems to think its dead  Maybe somthing in the battery or charging curcitry Craig |
Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
I think you just hit the nail on the head in the power kernel, if you can get the device back to workshop state your problems might be over unless you have a battery connection fault there so check where the battery connects to the 3 pins and in the battery you have 3 sprung connectors, if one of them had been opened too wide it will not make contact with the 3 pins on the device so worth a check.
Also check the 3 pins to see if anything loose there. |

Re: N900 Dead again - This time for real.
Okay, its dead again, same thing - Mid phone call it started vibrating like mad and died.
Okay here is how it is now If the battery is in, nothing, plug it in to charge nothing. HOWEVER if i take the battery out with the charger plugged in i get an orange LED! The battery is not dead because i charged it on an external charger... ideas? Craig |
