N900 restarting loop
Hello
I have switched off my N900 and since then I cannot boot. when I press the ON button it keeps restarting endlessly. it just display the NOKIA screen (without vibration) and goes off and again on. I have removed the battery for more than one hour, but it didn't help at all. do I have to reflash? Is there anything else I can do to avoid reflashing? if I reflash will I loose all the installed apps and contacts? please help me because I had a lot of valuable stuff there and of course I didn't backed up anything. |
Re: N900 restarting loop
Have you tried charging the battery for a while before restarting? Something similar has happened to my N900 a couple of times, and each time it was due to a depleted battery.
|
Re: N900 restarting loop
yes, I have tried recharging the battery with an external charger.
I have also tried another battery without success :-( |
Re: N900 restarting loop
yes there is way , it happened with me too , and some one said trying reflashing only kernel , but unfortunately i already had reflashed my device , try googling it .
|
Re: N900 restarting loop
Sounds as if your phone can't load the kernel.
Try flashing the kernel to the N900 http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_t...a_FIASCO_image EDIT: People are fast ! |

Re: N900 restarting loop
Hello mate,
I had almost the same problem too. For me my N900 was fine but the battery pins were too wide to have a good connection. So if you have a something like a baby pin try to push the connectors closer carefully and try it again on your phone. It might make a difference. Let me know if it worked. |

i am at step 6. the screen is dim, nokia logo appears and usb symbol is on top left. command prompt in windows still display Image 'mmc', size 255947 kB Version RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA Suitable USB device not found, waiting. |
Re: N900 restarting loop
I retried using another USB port and windows say that cannot find the usb driver. that's strange because I was always able to connect my phone to that laptop

Re: N900 restarting loop
I waited more than 20 minutes but also it was pointless as there was no connection between the laptop and the n900.
can I find that driver anywhere to install it manually for windows 7 64bit ? |
Re: N900 restarting loop
lol you should have mentioned your windows bit before :p
search in wiki , or google with update firmware talk.maemo.org and there you will see the procedure to flash your device with window 64 bit |
Re: N900 restarting loop
I updated to PR1.2 and PR1.3 previously and 64bit windows on this laptop were just fine.

Re: N900 restarting loop
I am now on another laptop with windows XP.
I have installed nokia usb cable driver, the flasher and I have the vanilla.bin image I did the procedure to flash the device and windows is now showing the following: C:\flash>flasher-3.5.exe -F vanilla.bin -f flasher v2.5.2 (Sep 24 2009) Image 'mmc', size 255947 kB Version RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA Suitable USB device not found, waiting. USB device found found at bus bus-0, device address \\.\libusb0-0001--0x0421-0x0 105. at this point I connected the cable to the USB port Found device RX-51, hardware revision 2101 NOLO version 1.4.14 Version of 'sw-release': RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.003_PR_003 Booting device into flash mode. Suitable USB device not found, waiting. it is more than 10 minutes now and it's still on the same screen. also, the n900 screen stays lit, writes NOKIA and shows the usb connectivity icon on top left. |
Re: N900 restarting loop
same thing in ubuntu :-(
|
Re: N900 restarting loop
i have the same problem my phone has been sitting in the closet for over two months now it all happened when i tried to remove nitdroid !
|
Re: N900 restarting loop
all I did, was a restart of N900 as it was ON for many many days and then I couldn't switch it on again :(

Re: N900 restarting loop
There might be a chance of a faulty USB cable. At any case you might want to recharge your N900's battery so that you can flash it.
Regardless of whichever OS you choose to use, the basic troubleshooting that you must do is to check if the OS enumerated (identified) the device. Under windows I'm sure its under device manager, under linux its via USB. Whilst the device is in flashing mode you will see the device is being identified something like 'Nokia Mobile Phones E-51 (firmware update mode)'. Also if the flasher is waiting for a suitable device and you have plugged in N900 already but you don't see the device being enumerated. You might want to try other ports on the computer and see if you can get the device to be identified. Also I wouldn't personally suggest plugging N900 onto a USB hub when you are flashing, especially non powered/heavily used USB hub. |

First I plug device to PC by holding U key on the device keyboard and then connect the USB cable. I hold the key until I see USB connectivity icon on top right corner. Then I execute flashing command. If you are going to flash FW and eMMC (both latest) run first: flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f and then: flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R But if you are going to flash just FW (PR1.3), then run: flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R To flash just kernel (PR1.3) run: flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin --flash-only=kernel -f -R and to flesh just bootloader (PR1.3) run: flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin --flash-only=nolo -f -R Don't forget to type -R at the end of flashing command! Skip it only for kernel in the first scenario. |

Re: N900 restarting loop
now I get the following only

Re: N900 restarting loop
p900, VANILLA is not firmware, but eMMC content!!! You don't have kernel in there ! Use file's full names (don't rename them) to avoid confusion.
|
Re: N900 restarting loop
kolos which file do I have to use in order to flash the kernel? I changed the file name to vanilla in order to avoid typing all that long file name.
|
Re: N900 restarting loop
Firmware is RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin and if you want to avoid typing you can rename it in firmware.bin or something similar. Don't forget to put -R at the end of flashing command if you will flash just firmware (or kernel, or bootloader).
|
Re: N900 restarting loop
so, I will type the following, right?
flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin --flash-only=kernel -f -R |
Re: N900 restarting loop
Yes and if you rename this file, the command would be:
flasher-3.5 -F firmware.bin --flash-only=kernel -f -R |
Re: N900 restarting loop
I ended up with the following and now the phone is still plugged on USB displaying NOKIA with the usb icon ON and the display light is ON
do I have to do anything else? should I remove the usb and reboot the N900? C:\Program Files (x86)\maemo\flasher-3.5>flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36- 2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin --flash-only=kernel -f -R flasher v2.5.2 (Sep 24 2009) SW version in image: RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_MR0 Image 'kernel', size 1705 kB Version 2.6.28-20103103+0m5 Image 'rootfs', size 185728 kB Version RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_MR0 Image 'cmt-2nd', size 81408 bytes Version BB5_09.36 Image 'cmt-algo', size 519808 bytes Version BB5_09.36 Image 'cmt-mcusw', size 5826 kB Version rx51_ICPR82_10w08 Image '2nd', size 14720 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2217, 2218, 2219, 2220, 2120 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'xloader', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2217, 2218, 2219, 2220, 2120 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'secondary', size 109440 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2217, 2218, 2219, 2220, 2120 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image '2nd', size 14720 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2101, 2102, 2103 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'xloader', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2101, 2102, 2103 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'secondary', size 109440 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2101, 2102, 2103 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image '2nd', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2307, 2308, 2309, 2310 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'xloader', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2307, 2308, 2309, 2310 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'secondary', size 109440 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2307, 2308, 2309, 2310 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image '2nd', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2407, 2408, 2409, 2410 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'xloader', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2407, 2408, 2409, 2410 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'secondary', size 109440 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2407, 2408, 2409, 2410 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image '2nd', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2301, 2302, 2303, 2304, 2305, 2306 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'xloader', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2301, 2302, 2303, 2304, 2305, 2306 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'secondary', size 109440 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2301, 2302, 2303, 2304, 2305, 2306 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image '2nd', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2401, 2402, 2403, 2404, 2405, 2406 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'xloader', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2401, 2402, 2403, 2404, 2405, 2406 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'secondary', size 109440 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2401, 2402, 2403, 2404, 2405, 2406 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image '2nd', size 14720 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2104, 2105, 2106, 2107, 2108, 2109, 2110, 2111, 2112, 2 113, 2114, 2115, 2116, 2117, 2118, 2119 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'xloader', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2104, 2105, 2106, 2107, 2108, 2109, 2110, 2111, 2112, 2 113, 2114, 2115, 2116, 2117, 2118, 2119 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'secondary', size 109440 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2104, 2105, 2106, 2107, 2108, 2109, 2110, 2111, 2112, 2 113, 2114, 2115, 2116, 2117, 2118, 2119 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image '2nd', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2501, 2502, 2503, 2504, 2505, 2506 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'xloader', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2501, 2502, 2503, 2504, 2505, 2506 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'secondary', size 109440 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2501, 2502, 2503, 2504, 2505, 2506 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image '2nd', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2607, 2608, 2609, 2610 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'xloader', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2607, 2608, 2609, 2610 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'secondary', size 109440 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2607, 2608, 2609, 2610 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image '2nd', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2507, 2508, 2509, 2510 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'xloader', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2507, 2508, 2509, 2510 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'secondary', size 109440 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2507, 2508, 2509, 2510 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image '2nd', size 14720 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2201, 2202, 2203, 2204, 2205, 2206, 2207, 2208, 2209, 2 210, 2211, 2212, 2213, 2214, 2215, 2216 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'xloader', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2201, 2202, 2203, 2204, 2205, 2206, 2207, 2208, 2209, 2 210, 2211, 2212, 2213, 2214, 2215, 2216 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'secondary', size 109440 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2201, 2202, 2203, 2204, 2205, 2206, 2207, 2208, 2209, 2 210, 2211, 2212, 2213, 2214, 2215, 2216 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image '2nd', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2601, 2602, 2603, 2604, 2605, 2606 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'xloader', size 14848 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2601, 2602, 2603, 2604, 2605, 2606 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 Image 'secondary', size 109440 bytes Valid for RX-51: 2601, 2602, 2603, 2604, 2605, 2606 Version 1.4.14.9+0m5 USB device found found at bus bus-0, device address \\.\libusb0-0001--0x0421-0x0 105. Re: N900 restarting loop
Very well! You can unplug the phone and try to switch it on.
If you will still have rebooting loops try to flash bootloader too. flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin --flash-only=nolo -f -R |
