time for a new phone
My N900 has started to get old. The screen has scratches, the battery is starting to show it's age, the keyboard has worn out. I love the N900 and I have had a wonderful time with it. I still believe it's the greatest pocketable device made, so... I got a new one! Thought it was going to be one of those threads? I just couldn't resist.
BTW it has the uk firmware (yay! fmtx enabled by default). Does anyone know the difference? Is there a point in flashing it with global fw? |
Re: time for a new phone
im really also considering buying one more (from new) to have laying around if mine ever breaks, not that my USB is in danger or i need additional battery's :D
But will wait some months first and if no new devices that has the same freedom as the N900 has then i will no doubt buy another. |
Re: time for a new phone
Smart move mate. But I'm waiting to see what devices Nokia/Intel/MeeGo is gonna come up with.
|
Re: time for a new phone
Yes I had decided to wait but then I saw that the price hasn't fallen the last 4 months, and they have started disppearing from the stores one by one so I had to do it.

Re: time for a new phone
the price has gone up on amazon....selling for US 550
|
Re: time for a new phone
Surely it would've been worth waiting until the announcement on the 21st, just in case they produce some crazy-good successor to the N900? Then again, I seriousy doubt it will be anything as versatile as this thing. Good move mate. I should've done the same when amazon was selling them for $350 last month. Now $550 is just too much...

Re: time for a new phone
Yes unfortunately they didn't ship to Greece

Re: time for a new phone
just heard that nokia n9 is coming with symbian anna. and full qwerty keyboard.
apart from this. i am having a good time with my n900. and i am addicted to it. i only want a firmware update..... only one for some bug fixes. that would make it the bestest smartphone ever made by any comapany. |
Re: time for a new phone
I have heard that Nokia is going to announce a device based on maemo 6 this summer.

Re: time for a new phone
My screen is getting thrashed. I'm close to pulling the trigger on one of those $12 n900 touch screen digitizers on ebay.
|
Re: time for a new phone
Does it come with a screen or it's only the digitizer? Because I had gotten a N95 screen for about this price, and it still works 1.5 years later, but it's not transflective, and the edges are like they are going to peel off. Rainbow colors on the four corners
|
Re: time for a new phone
It's only the digitizer. The screen w/ digitizer runs between $50 and $80.

Re: time for a new phone
i bought my N900 six months ago ,trsut me even i dont consider myself a perfect person to use this amazing device but still gotta say it is fking great device ,its beautiful, its multitasking, its cssu features, its unique application, its community ,the developers ,i loved every part of it .
whoever gonna buy a new device ,trust me it should be N900,even now ..i believe i am so in love with my N900.its nice |
Re: time for a new phone
what's a screen digitizer?
is it different from resistive and capacitive screens? back to topic: i read that nokia is going to announce a device on june 21st. people believe that it's a meego device... am i the only weird guy here? i still receive lots of compliments that my device still looks like new after 1 1/2 years. i only put screen protectors at the front and back still the same till now... |
Re: time for a new phone

|
Re: time for a new phone
yeah mine looks new on the back too. Unlike all other nokias after a year and a half of use. But I tend to use fingernails on the keyboard...

But if I do it, I'll certainly post the experience. |
Re: time for a new phone
i also started looking for a new device, but i realized that i could try android on the n900.
its nice and all, and if it gets working voicecalls and mobile internet with the next upgrade, i'll propably switch to that. |
Re: time for a new phone
My N900 keyboard is wearing out too. Specially the backspace.
I wish i had the money to buy another new N900, i'd like to keep a spare one closed in the box. :) My screen has lots of minor scratches, luckily they are only visible on a certain angle from a certain light source. What's pissing me off are the stuck pixels... 3 red stuck pixels. |

Re: time for a new phone
hmm, I asked Nokia Care and they told me the original comes together with the screen and they want 70€ for it.

Re: time for a new phone
mine is in brilliant condition slight scratch to the bevel where wedding ring caught it. dreading the day it dies. I tell everyone when they ask when are you getting a new phone i usually reply when there is something on the market that appeals to me, and i would have another n900 straightaway. i usually get bored within 6-8 months and am ready for a new device, but i'm still as amazed with this as the first day i got it.

so then how do you connect? i went to the connection/wireless-settings in android and chose my carrier from the list, but it still wouldnt connect anywhere. thats one thing i dont like about android. there is no seperate "connect/disconnect from internet" as in maemo, i'm only aware of the "turn wlan on/off" functionality. when the device disconnects from wlan and i want to reconnect, i have to turn wlan off, then on again, because it connects automatically when wlan is turned on. if there any software-switch to connect instead of turning wlan on/off by hardware (and similar for mobile internet)? |

Re: time for a new phone
I may have found a second phone now (when the price is announced/comes down to what i want to pay....) the samsung galaxy note, godda*m the more i look into this phone the more awesome it gets.
Would be nice if we had full maemo so we could remake it to other hardware or have the meego guys do some magic :) The only thing missing for me is a HW keyboard, but every thing else i ever wanted is in that phone, especially the BIG!!!! screen and the AWESOME RES!!!!, dual core is nice to, but i always wanted a big screen like that, and of course for keyboard a BT in a case or slide (like the N900) addon will be ok. I will however wait until someone makes ubuntu run on it, even if it's like easy debian. Also note that it has an awesome touchscreen, for mypaint this will be AWESOME, again the size and RES!!! Must admit im looking forward for a new device for once, no doubt thou that my N900's are going to be with me, the N900 for me is still one of the last Concorde moments, only way to have anything like it is to take something like the note and HACK THE SH*T out of it, make it run maemo/meego (or Cordia :)), or like i always wanted a FULL ubuntu (ARM) on it, with the phone controls (can be kbuntu mobile) |
Re: time for a new phone
Yes I too fell in love with the galaxy note since the moment I saw it.but I also like the N9 more and more every day. I don't think I can resist to out five months till the note arrives...
