[Mockup] Hildon Redesign

Why have I done this - because I realized I wanted to change more things in Hildon-desktop, and the lock screen was definitely not the place to put it.

So, I finally realized what the GNOME 3 devs got right - the notification/tray area. So I'm ripping that off, and pasting it into Hildon.

On the first page of status plugins (shown) you have the signal level, time and date, and notifications. If you want to access more stuff (e.g. Advanced Interface Switcher, Flashlight, Easy Brightness) , you'll have to swipe the top-bar to the side (as indicated by the arrow)

To open the apps menu/task switcher, you pull down the top bar. A simpler version of the top bar appears when you launch apps (to be designed).

EDIT: A long press on the big menu bar would enable you to connect to networks, change the wallpaper, etc.

is it allready in the repos??

@~phoenix~

I can't see the image(s) due to the college computer not being great. As stated in the title, it is a mockup and not an actual software package.

No, look in the title, it's a mockup.
And dude, Lockerz is a scam, please remove that from your sig.

I think Smoku has made progress implementing Gnome Power Management in Cordia (hildon for MeeGo)if it is of any help.

Re: [Mockup] Hildon Redesign

i have some questions :
1- what would you do if you want everything back to normal like it was before ?
2- how many desktops will you have ? and will they all be the same ?
3- when will you finish and release it ?

ammyt 2011-06-28 11:07

Re: [Mockup] Hildon Redesign

I'd love the bottom bar (that says Ram, Swap...) to be pushed lower, settled just at the bottom of the screen, and to be solely for app shortcuts, and to be horizontally scrollable. This will prevent me from using 4 desktops for placing shortcuts, and will stop me from experiencing the ugly vsync-less transition!

Point taken, RAM and SWAP info moved to main-menubar, second page.

Dude, this is just a mockup, a design, an imaginary prototype or whatever you could call that.

Hurrian 2011-06-28 11:30

Re: [Mockup] Hildon Redesign

Start throwing me icons you pulled from apps or hicolor, I'll need to fill up that dock for mockups.

1 - apt-get uninstall hilldurr-desktop
2 - up to a maximum of 9, I guess, as it's going to be based off CSSU's h-d either that or a wallpaper slideshow.
3 - ???

thats disappointing, and you are reacting very funny to an imaginary pic ! removing, replacing, editing like a sand castle. and he actually said point taken

If the changes you are aiming to implement here get included in Cordia, we'll have a kick-*** UX for MeegoCE as well :)

Anybody say task switcher?
EDIT: Oops, no X button. BRB, fixing it.

if this is real then i be intrested to install it but sadly it just a mockup design...

Re: [Mockup] Hildon Redesign

Oh, and I plan the pull-down menu-bar to be animated.
For example, here. The tray items move out to the side, the signal bar moves out to the side, and the clock starts moving to the side.

Sweet design! Why not recreate your mockup in Qt Quick?
If you'd like I can do it for you :D

learn the code first before you create a design...what you doing is no more than just a mockup that will never be publish is you dont learn the code...the code is important than the design...FACT!!!

Well then learn to write English properly before you start Bi#tching on people's arses. Providing a design is at least better than posting stupid stuff and being a troll.

ease up fella. its just a valid point hes made. i rather think people should design something and then learn the code onto how to meet that goal.

no need to ***** over this. i myself don't know how to code but i am learning from you guys how bout giving the op some props?

good job man hopefully someone who is good at implementing this would be able to work with you.

Re: [Mockup] Hildon Redesign

It's not unreasonable for designers to offer great designs without the ability to code and for coders to write clever code without any design skills.

Put the two together and...

Personally, I can do neither! :shame_on_me:

Re: [Mockup] Hildon Redesign

well for me the codes should be on top before the design...the codes is what going to make the design useful or not...without it then any design that anyone make will just be a mockup...
i can bet plenty of member who viewing this design will say...

Quote:

"OMG, i love it...i want to install it on my phone but how to install it"
then after reading reply after reply then member will understand it just a design that doesn't have a codes yet to make it works...by this time member will say....

Quote:

"hmmm...i thought there is a deb files that i can install on my phone so i can change my status bar just like the picture but i was wrong..."
codes is like a engine & a design is just like a casis or a car...without a engine (heart of a car) the car will only look gud as a prototype...

Re: [Mockup] Hildon Redesign

A coder can design an app but most probably will design it poorly. Fortunately a designer can't code an app.

This coming from a guy trying to be both :)

Re: [Mockup] Hildon Redesign

Good graphic skills allow ideas for a better experience to be built and organised more clearly. It also attracts programmers with the necessary skills, and provides a clear direction of what is required or wanted - the programmer can then say what they can/cannot bring to a project.

In this case Hurrian has a clear idea of what he wants, and some idea on how to implement it when he aquires the skills.

Re: [Mockup] Hildon Redesign

I really like this UI design, great job; I feel it eliminates the issues that exist in Hildon at the moment and would greatly improve usability. I have a very limited understanding of coding myself, but to be honest I'd be surprised if this would even be possible in Fremantle. What's perhaps a better idea is to have a chat to the guys making Cordia, and see what they think. They definitely know how to code, and if they agree that this represents a legitimate improvement over the default Hildon UI then they might help you out. Couldn't hurt to ask, at any rate.

Soulaxe 2011-06-29 07:30

Re: [Mockup] Hildon Redesign

Doesn't anyone on here listen to a thing I say? Qt Quick is the coding language FOR designers. All this BS about Hurrian needing to learn how to code is nonsense, a teaser app is possible without skills for coding, meaning it won't replace the hildon-desktop but it'll run like a slideshow of pictures with interactive elements. I'll say this again; if Hurrian isn't up to doing this himself I'll gladly recreate his mock-up design in Qt Quick for him.

therefore the question should be asked....

Can someone who can code implement this beautiful mockup. I would be happy to donate to this worthy cause.

Okay, I'm going to try to do it in Qt Quick.
BRB, using the Designer.

Here's a picture of a running app, MicroB. You can access the task switcher by swiping the top bar down, and connect/disconnect to networks by holding the top bar.

Re: [Mockup] Hildon Redesign

The Qt SDK is a few hundred MB, which is hueg, and is a ***** to download on a WiFi connection bridged to an Ethernet cable.
In the meantime, can someone poke the Cordia team about this? Although I have my doubts that they'd do this, as they're mainly focused on porting Maemo 5's Hildon to MeeGo, and this is a pretty radical change (still not as radical as Maemo 6's UI design though)

In the meantime, can someone put together a basic working mockup in Qt Quick just to let the other people have a feel for it? I only know some ancient ActionScript code, which does NOT work at all in AS3.

Oh, and nice tags, people.

That download took a whole 14 hrs on my 0.37mb connection, you should get the offline, as the online could download broken files.

I also doubt Cordia would do this, they're porting Maemo to a different device, I think the wouldn't do it the other way around, but don't hold my opinion for this.

The tags just help enforce the personality of the Maemo community. Beautiful!

I'll get to work doing this in qml for the undeserving community :p. Would you mind packaging the icons, fonts, and a text file describing how everything to behave into a archive and send it me? Thanks.

It'd be better to go in the #cordia irc channel on freenode and discuss it there, as Smoku has managed to implement Gnome Power Management and could point you in the right direction.

Try posting a request in the cordia thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ghlight=cordia

If all else fails, send him a PM :)
