My N900 wont boot up, even after a re-flash !!

hi guys,
i've got this N900, it was fine and super awesome
just one day ago, i've got a call, only the ring tone !! the screen was black. i tried to answer it, but NO, i shutdown the mobile, reboot .! but no as well, not even Nokia LOGO.

thought of re-flash the system. and DONE.! reflashed eMMC.bin and the OS as well.

but still no booting, when i turn it on, all i get is a white LED turned into yellow after a while, and hold on to this status !!

could anyone - for the love of god - help me, i'm losing it

Try to use latest firmware and emmc image,

RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin
and RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin

Both are global region images, hope this will fix you issue.

i've tried them, and successfully were able to flash them, the problem remains; no boot, no nokia logo while starting, just a white LED, turned into yellow after a while and remain in this shape for ever .!

Did you try charge?
Yellow is charge light.
Leave it on charge or have you got a wall charger (standalone battery charger)?

Or is it something different... You LCD backlights working??

DavidAlgor 2011-07-14 22:50

Re: My N900 wont boot up, even after a re-flash !!

i'm sure it's nothing about the battery, the device is charging it very well, i've got the green light on, which means there is no problem charging the battery.

the problem with either the software, or the hardware.
the LCD backlight is working, but still, as mentioned above, the Nokia logo doesnt appear !! what could be the problem

one more question, could the "wrong flash" cause any damage to the hardware ?!

How what did you flash? Did you flash the emmc? did you do it seperate or combined? If you did it seperate did you do the emmc first then rootfs?

separated, the eMMC first(RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin
), and then the roots (RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin)

i used flasher-3.5 :)

Mike Fila 2011-07-14 23:44

Re: My N900 wont boot up, even after a re-flash !!

That is an older rootfs try

RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin

I would charge it till you have green then do the emmc and then the above

AlMehdi 2011-07-15 00:58

Re: My N900 wont boot up, even after a re-flash !!

Don't do them separately.. do them together one after the other directly.
Code:

flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin -f
flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

You could also try to change the order of the images if the above doesn't work. Although that is not the normal procedure.

When you flash.. do you see the usb and Nokia logo? It is very faint but can be seen better infront of a lamp. If you do not see anything it could be a hardware failure..

You could also try to connect it to your tv.. if this works and the screen on the N900 still is black then it is probably hardware.

if you still have guarantee try to use it or buy a new screen and switch. They are not that expensive and fairly easy to change. Do not try to find the cheapest spare part though.. they are mostly junk.

Try flashing in R&D mode. If that won't help, flash with framebuffer kernel - you would know at which moment boot fail. Maybe` You got problems with BSI unrecognizing Your battery (cause some internal fail, not the battery itself).

Re: My N900 wont boot up, even after a re-flash !!

Assuming you have flasher 3.5 installed:

In Linux: sudo flasher-3.5 --enable-rd-mode

In windows: flasher-3.5.exe --enable-rd-mode

Re: My N900 wont boot up, even after a re-flash !!

:) it got worse :)

i've enabled the R&D mode :), flash both eMMC and the roots, the right and left side of the keyboard are blinking meanwhile, the middle of the keyboard isn't .! and after a while, the device is OFF.
PS: the device turned on the moment i put the battery in.! even without pressing the "ON/OFF button" !!

one more thing before shooting myself :(, how to flash with framebuffer kernel ?!
thanks guys :)

It's OK that both sides of keyboard keep blinking while it processes information in R&D mode.

Did yo tried to turn the phone on in R&D mode (I mean, after the device started when you inserted the battery --BTW that's normal) ??

About framebuffer kernel:

-Download it from: http://maemo.org/packages/view/kernel-framebuffer/
- Flash it, using: flasher-3.5 -k nameofthekernel -f

about turning on the cell in the RD mode, yep and it was the same thing, right-left backlighting, blinking, and turning off after a while .! except that when i touch the screen, it vibrate, as well the keys make sound when i press one of'em .!

about the link above, "FILE NOT FOUND" :)

my hand to god it cant get more catastrophic !! :S

I can't upload the fb-kernel here.. if you want pm me and give your email so i can send it to you.

You could also try to google it, maybe you'll have luck. The file name is:
zImage-fb-omap1.bin

Re: My N900 wont boot up, even after a re-flash !!

Be really careful with R&D mode.. A misstep could render your device to a permanent brick. It is also very possible that it wouldn't be covered by the guarantee. So try the least harmful things first and do this as a last resort.

However.. the blinking keyboard is normal. Did your screen show or was it still black? Did you try connecting it to the tv (turn off r&d before that)?

Re: My N900 wont boot up, even after a re-flash !!

that happened with me once

you need to use older emmc.bin and older rootfs.bin
hopefully your problem will be solved just like mine
PS: USE GLOBAL FIRMWARE

wow, that's amazing, it worked .!!!

when i turned it on, the TV shows the "enter the lock code" screen, i do it blindly, yet i wasnt able to access using a default one i guess, i used the same oooooold one before flashing eMMC.bin (what does that means) ?!

anyway, i can access anything nnow, just using the TV screen !! the device screen is still black .!

It's a broken screen/damaged flex then. The touchscreen works right? Replacement N900 screens can be had on eBay for cheaps.

This auction looks legit.

(not my auction.)

Also, have some search results.

Do not just buy the cheapest screen you'll find. The quality can wary a lot. They could simply be crap quality.. recalculated sek>dollar a price worthy screen should go for about $30 but then Sweden might be a more expensive country. A crap quality screen goes for about $10. So maybe something in between of that.
