Another goodbye n900 thread

I just got a new iphone 4 and let go (hardly) of my beloved n900, i loved everything about n900 the apps, the community, the games and specially the wep cracking ;)
and i found some interesting features in iphone 4 like many highly graphical supported games and apps.
BUT to be honest here is some points that i regret giving away my n900 :

- iphone can't read every file formats like n900 (in n900 you can drop any file format and open it)
- everything is done via itunes, if im away from home and i want to put something into my iphone i have to install the 130 MB itunes, n900 i could just plug it in and you're done
- i don't know if you gonna believe it or not but the headphones sound in n900 is way much better than the iphone, in the iphone its like there is something wrong here but music with n900 is magical
- i feel like im monitored and chained and smotherd by itunes !

but the main cause i let go of my n900 was its size it was a brick in my jeans difficult to walk normally, run, roundhouseing =P
i gave it to my brother who is stunned by it, he fell for it and i can see him always using it like i used to
so farewell helpful and friendly community

- and yeah there are some wise-behinds that will show up here soon i already know them :-P

why you say n900 is a brick??

the nokia 9500 that I still use daily , yes, it is a brick.

and that type of threads are boring...

Re: Another goodbye n900 thread

The only reason I suspect people who leave start new threads is because

A) They know they are giving up something that was truly great
B) They know the community will miss them in some way (ok not everyone)
C) They want to get attention for little or no reason

I cant imagine a large number of posts from people saying they are leaving iphone or android. Sure N900 has a much smaller owner group but this little beast earned respect and i imagine the person disowning the device needs closure :P

Re: Another goodbye n900 thread

Since my mother got her iphone 4 I have been a bit amazed how well it actually works. Everything works flawless and the application support for it is super-big. BUT, as AgogData says it's completely dependent on iTunes which is (at least on windows) a resource-hogging mammoth.
The thing that I envy most is the official client for spotify, especially the offline-support. Qspot for the N900 is kickass in many ways, but the offline-feature is something I really miss.
My opinion is that the N900 and iPhone rocks in different ways!

Respect, I wouldn't be able to go for a feature phone after owning N95 and N900.

No not really, i used to have a real brick in the late 80s, an ericsson NMT hotline "pocketphone" not only was it large as a brick, it was also partially redcoloured as a brick.

I think this should be a great alternative to the brick reason without leaving the community?

http://www.slashgear.com/aigo-n500-m...china-2671330/

but I for me I would prefer the brick disadvantage over that.

Good luck. As with most OSes, iOS keeps getting better and better. The dependency on a PC running iTunes ends this fall with iOS 5.

I also switched to iPhone 4. N900 did not support provisioning for my email, was moodier than my wife and required too much tweaking. iPhone 4 is idiot proof, and I love it!!!

i feel pity for you my friend, for i jus installed ios5 b3 and i still hate it.. and still gave it back to my sis..
why?
coz iphone sucks.. and i got a pc capable of running pirated crysis 2 with full dx 11 support and ultra graphics settings and still running above 30fps..
and n900 has angry birds, good enough for me.. and i literally glued back the usb port jus to i can give the iphone back to my sis..
xterm.. filebox.. documents to go.. fm transmitter.. ir port *to annoy my sister while she's watching tv, i jus go to the room, use my phone to turn off the tv.. and go back to my room*
faircrack to crack my university's wifi and use internet.. flash9 *its still good, trust me* and oh
most of all, when im bored, i draw.. and nothing can replace a stylus and mypaint app.. not even my huge 2 inchie *indian accent*
and a good set of themes without using cydia and actually paying for the good themes *free ones are always crappy*
and thanks for reading my review..

And as normal Apple are somehow making marketing mileage out of a feature Maemo - and Android - have had for quite a while (just as they did with video calls): "Download ...[] ... software updates directly on your device"

Re: Another goodbye n900 thread

I'd love to say goodbye to the N900 - but I'm not going to move to a less capable device.

The trouble is, there isn't anything on the market that constitutes an upgrade.

Every viable replacement I've looked at either has no keyboard (iphone, N9 and loads of android stuff), cannot be bought (N950, slide 4g, milestone 3 - not in the UK yet), doesn't support custom ROMs (milestone 2/3) etc etc etc.

Frankly if you're leaving at this point for one of the phones available right now, then you never really needed an N900 in the first place.

[Edit] Desire Z? hmmmmmm

I can't think of owt else I'd want - especially with the new portrait desktop. It has transformed the N900 into a totally new phone for me!

not quite, it seems...

Quote:

Wirelessly sync your iOS device to your Mac or PC over a shared Wi-Fi connection. Every time you connect your iOS device to a power source (say, overnight for charging), it automatically syncs and backs up any new content to iTunes. So you always have your movies, TV shows, home videos, and photo albums everywhere you want them.
thus still not "mass storage" worthy
remains $h!t, sorry :(

Iphone 4 is like a beautiful whore riddled with STDs, while she may look appealing at the time after use your diseased ePen|s will fall off.

Why all the bad vibes on here just because someone says goodbye to his N900? do you lot seriously think this device is life or death or something? wow i have never seen such animosity among people.

The ipone is actually a brilliantly designed mobile device and it is as attractive to some as the N900 is not so why hunt down people just because they say they are moving to an iphone?.

Just to make it absolutely clear, I am sad to see Agog go. He was a contributer (of sorts). I was:

1. Mocking the idiotphone4.
2. Requesting abill to FO.

Whatever but it shocked me to read that whoever it was aimed at.

You lot that are N900 die hards are going to feel very silly when the N9 gets out and about because already it does far far more out of the box than the N900 does even with all the mods this comminty has to offer and that is before any further development takes place on it, so i wonder what the situation will feel like when the N9 is reported on this community !.

Will the N900 be as popular then i wonder !.
