why isn't N9 marketed as the "facebook" phone
The N9 is probably as close to a "facebook phone" as you're going to get:
- dedicated screen for social network - deep integrated with chat, contacts, skype - one day support plugin facebook apps?? Clueless consumers would eat it all up, most of this demographic seem to only care about checking/posting facebook on their "smartphones" Sure;y they'll sell more this way than trying to market it to linux geeks? |
Re: why isn't N9 marketed as the "facebook" phone
Because Facebook will update their API's, Nokia will be slow (again) to update their apps that talk to Facebook.
Happened with Yahoo, MSN, looking like it'll happen with Skype, Twitter very soon. |
Re: why isn't N9 marketed as the "facebook" phone
Because Facebook is useless and Nokia wants poeple to meet face to face.

Omg, if I won't have FB on my N9, I'll throw away the device and die in a couple of days :( http://th1236.photobucket.com/albums...troll_face.gif

So my guess is symbian/harmattan will have good support for Faceshit and Skype and not so good for google+/GTalk in the longer run.. Thats one of the reason I push my friends from fb and to Google+ instead :D |

Who says it's going to be marketed to Linux geeks? oO Obviously not.
Social networking is one thing, but it would be silly to reduce the N9 to this (or any other single feature really). It has also become the "hip" thing to offer on a phone, so it's hardly a way to stand out. Don't they have phones with dedicated Facebook buttons even?! |

e.g. http://gadgetfeel.com/wp-content/upl...ions_thumb.jpg I think we can all agree that the N9 deserves it's own marketing push, but riding the Facebook bandwagon wouldn't be it imo. |
Re: why isn't N9 marketed as the "facebook" phone
Just call N9 the Jesus phone. All the right wing fanatics will buy it!

Re: why isn't N9 marketed as the "facebook" phone
Because the N9 is not marketed at all.
In fact, it's being ant-marketed: that is, Elop is doing everything possible and impossible to make sure the N9 fails. I'm sure Elop wouldn't be above shipping a turd in every N9 package alongside the phone if only that would help him discourage people from buying the N9. (Thankfully I don't think decisions like these are in his power.) |

Why else would "average joe" consumer pick N9 over iphone,Android,Blackberry?. The mass consumers (500M facebook users) care deeply about facebook (dont ask me why). just having a "FB" button that launches an FB app is not good enough. N9 appears to have deep intgration and easily accessible. This is the only way to have joe consumer ignore 1M apps in an appstore... |
