[Announce] Packed Media Widget - Homescreen widget

Packed Media Widget is an homescreen widget to control Multimedia player, SomePlayer and InternetRadioPlayer, all at once.

http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/1...1072212202.png

It's made of 8buttons, in a 2x4 grid. The ones on the right are the control ones, and the ones on the left, hidden, are used to change the player to affect or to start it.

Starting from the bottom, the context buttons are: Multimedia, SomePlayer, InternetRadioPlayer and "start".
To use the widget, first a context button must be pressed since at widget startup there is no context chosen.
"Start" button behaves differently based on the chosen context:
  • For Multimedia, it "plays" the song. It's a play, not a resume, so the song will be restarted.
  • For Someplayer, it checks if the player is running, and it does it in case it's not.
  • For InternetRadioPlayer, it starts the player if not running, or it shows it if hidden.
Widget is highly customizabled, from sizes to colours.

Actually in Extras-devel.

Cool, however I must ask. What is the widget on the top right?

Re: [Announce] Packed Media Widget - Homescreen widget

Top right? There is no widget there other than PackedMediaWidget.

EDIT: if you meant the bar, it's painted over the background.

oopz, I actually meant top left. So in effect your right (kind of).

What is the widget, top left?

How could that possibly be his right and your left? Is he looking upside down or you looking upside down... that's the only possibility I can think off... :D

Well, as Protagora used to say, "Everything is relative".

That's a calendar widget written with Qt and QtMobility to suit my desktop style.

@Electricgod: ye, I may add an orientation option.

well, have you added it?

And now question to the dev. Is it possible to add a online radio functionality to those buttons, when i am in MAEMO media player "MOD"? i mean the lowest quarter.

I'm sorry, but I have not understood your question. If you wish 1button streaming radio, than get internetradiowidgets.

I have coded an homescreen widgets to use mplayer from desktop, but not using the whole 800*480 screen to watch videos is a blasphemy from my point of view :)

Hi there, I'm having a serious question, how do I align this thing to right without always having it jumping to the next desktop and aligning itself on the left side.

Grrrr ;)

J4ZZ

Grab it at the most right from the widget without going over die "blue corners"

Remember that there are invisible buttons at the left side of the widget, which means that you will always have an empty space on the left side of the widget.
(unless you change it from the widget settings like I did, check the screenshot)

Re: [Announce] Packed Media Widget - Homescreen widget

its pretty sad that everyone ignores the fact that alot of people are unable to see this widget in their list to add. I'm getting alot of messages on FB about this widget I hadn't heard of, then see I, too, can't get it to work.

Please properly support your users and community members. Allowing days to go by without even a response is embarrassing. I bet its a simple fix.

I, too, installed this widget, but there's no way to add it. So is there a config file or a GUI I'm missing? And don't say "add it using the homescreen editor", because as I and someone else explained, it IS NOT THERE!

Come on, guys. We can do better, or else we get to where we show how open source, non commercial software can be a weakness to a platform. I'm starting to feel its true, and this is just proving it.

Or just WAIT untill it's promoted to the Extra's repositories and stop whining about unstable releases on the extrasdevel/testing repos ;)

Hey gionnni88 - I'm not sure how much work is left to do on your app, but I wanted to let you know that the Maemo coding competition is in need of applications for the 'Desktop and Widget' category, so you might want to check it out :)

Here's the competition wiki with rules and how to enter, and details of the prizes on offer ;)
http://wiki.maemo.org/MeeGo_Coding_Competition_2011

The Desktop category is so short of entries it's being extended an extra week, it could be a great opportunity to showcase your work and perhaps win one of the prizes too

I have supported users using my programs the most I can, from forum or within emails (since my bugtracker is my email address). In Italy univerisity stopped 1week ago due to all protests happened at its beginning and I have few time to enjoy my holidays, so don't worry, when I can I'll keep updating this widget. And in case of something bad happening to me, you still have the code, so thanks to opensource you can still mantain it :P

And not, it isn't a simple fix if it happens to someone only, the worst is when it does NOT happen to me, since I can't understand what's happening.

Code:

pgrep packedmediawidget
to see if it's already running, if it is than kill it and add another istance of the widget.
Config file does not save position, it's Maemo only related settings.

gionni88 2011-07-30 06:04

Re: [Announce] Packed Media Widget - Homescreen widget

@ kojacker: thanks, I will check it soon.

@ handaxe: sadly no, but will soon do it. Someplayer is started traditionally like a detached process, InternetRadioPlayer instead after I have added the dbus service file is starting when any dbus call to it is done.
The start button right now is only a "play" dbus call, which works only when multimedia is running in background, so after a system boot it won't work. I will "fix" it starting multimedia in case it's not running, and sending "play" if it is.

Thanks for the reply. I've gotten a few FB messages about this widget, but can't get it to respond.

To clarify, it IS installed, but not showing in the widget list. Except for FAM, there is no evidence its installed at all. Is no one else having this issue?

I ran your command from above and it did nothing, gave no results, just a new line in Xterm.

gionni88 2011-08-03 07:13

Re: [Announce] Packed Media Widget - Homescreen widget

Sorry, I gave you wrong process name, it's packedmediawidget, not player.

If result is still nothing, than launch program from command line, its path is /opt/packedmediawidget/bin/packedmediawidget

It should be already running anyway, maybe it went outside your screen. Do you have the new portrait mode hildon-desktop? I'm sure about it because something weird happens when a qt widgets does not load properly (because path is wrong or bin has no executive right), screen freezes and almost all widgets get removed by themselves.

Re: [Announce] Packed Media Widget - Homescreen widget

I am using Hildon PortraitDesktop, and I saw the widget in the list a sec ago, but nothing. Rebooted, nothing still. Did the pgrep thing, nothing. Not sure how to launch from terminal, not even sure its running.

Is my issue isolated?! I had 4 people on FB mention it, but now no one knows what I'm talking about.

Why are the context buttons hidden? Shouldn't you at least provide a setting to make them visible?

@gioni
It's made of 8buttons, in a 2x4 grid. The ones on the right are the control ones, and the ones on the left, hidden, are used to change the player to affect or to start it.

i am only getting four buttons on the right ..where are buttons on the left ?hidden ones ? can you enlighten us a little bit about them ? how to get them shown on desktop ? thx in advance

Because in my opinion look is better without showing those context buttons.

If you wanna see them you just had to change alpha value of ending color to something different than 0.

Those buttons are there. In fact when you are in desktopsettings mode you can see the border of the widget is bigger. Just tap and you will see them. When they are pressed they get filled with cyan color, to give you feedback about their clicks.
Check post above to see how to get their backgroundnot trasparent.

Playing videos? Sorry but this is just a widget to control other players, it's not a player itself.

What happens when you launch it from command line?

Is the desktop file on your device? (/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/packedmediawidget.desktop)

Do you have any other qt homescreen widget installed & working?

Great widget gionni88.

Are we able to change icons? Which folder path location are they in?

Thanks.
