Gutted I sold my N900 and bought an iPhone 4
Well I finally sold my N900.
Then I bought an iPhone 4. At first I was impressed. It is fast. The screen is responsive. But oh god its boring. Its all so restricted and no tweaking is possible., customisation is limited to very basic stuff. With Cydia its a decent device, but standard its not great. I actually really really miss my N900 :( |
Re: Gutted I sold my N900 and bought an iPhone 4
Why did you do it? Genuine curiosity.

Re: Gutted I sold my N900 and bought an iPhone 4
i'll swap you my N900 for your iphone 4 :)

Even a great rooted Android phone is still unmatched for N900.
Make sure you don't hold the phone to make a call, it will drop...:) |

Re: Gutted I sold my N900 and bought an iPhone 4
Pretty much what I found out after playing with my buddy's for a little bit. Very polished, but also very locked down and doesn't offer much in the ways of customization or tweaking of any kind.
While most say somebody who likes the simplicity of an iphone shouldn't get an N900, I'd say the reverse is true too. The N900 is too open to go back to a closed system like ios. |
Re: Gutted I sold my N900 and bought an iPhone 4
I have felt something like that since getting an Android device. It drives me CRAZY when Overdrive automatically closes a book I am reading just because I want to look up a word in the dictionary or consult a map. My N900 would never do that.

I am really wondering:o. I suppose I thought I was getting something better, and in some ways it is and for some people it probably would be an upgrade, but for someone like me its just too restrictive and you cant do anything really interesting with it. No modding allowed:( |
Re: Gutted I sold my N900 and bought an iPhone 4
i feel you man... well, since you got it anyway, just enjoy all the apps that are available (seemingly that's the main draw of the iphone, besides the fluid ios)...
.. don't hope for much customisation |

Re: Gutted I sold my N900 and bought an iPhone 4
Android phone < iPhone 4
iPhone 4 = Crazy Android phone Jailbroken iPhone 4 > iPhone 4 Jailbroken iPhone 4 < Hacked Android phone N900 = Hacked Android phone Thus, N900 > Jailbroken iPhone 4 However, N900 =< Crazy Hacked Android phone Anyone in the know about the EVO 3D having longer battery life, 2.0GHz clockspeed and new interfaces thanks to the community? |

um, what?...

Re: Gutted I sold my N900 and bought an iPhone 4
Uh, not sure I agree with the N900 < than anything part, but I can say one thing for certain:
Crazy Hacked GooApple phone > Crazy Hacked other Android phone |
Re: Gutted I sold my N900 and bought an iPhone 4
Frankly, only thing i like about Iphone 4 and what N900 should have is a better processor and more RAM and battery. With that, I'd pick N900 over any other phone.

Re: Gutted I sold my N900 and bought an iPhone 4
i had a similiar experience while playing with my dad's new iphone. Really great first impression, but the troubles started when i wanted to tranfer pics from it to my n900: no bluetooth transfer, needed itunes 10.2 (i had 10.1) to even connect it to a pc, etc. i had to finally install dropbox to transfer the pics.
But on the plus side, the memory management is great! It doesn't becone laggy after a few days and even if u have 15 apps open (i know its not real multitasking, but...) the phone is still snappy. |

There are ones with very decent hardware today, with keyboards, with nice cameras, and you can customize EVERY little bit. Create themes, modify stock applications, compile your own kernel with your own modules, overclock, use ssh, VNC, telnet, ANYTHING. Enjoy your iPhone 4 :) |

Anyway....pretty sure its going on ebay and then I've just got to decide what I'm buying; a N900 or as you suggest Android. I'm leaning towards Android I think... |

With the N8 you can use it as a DLNA server and as a wifi router while using USB to go and being connected to a widescreen in HD to watch a movie. It is simply awesome if you get down to it. Android? Maybe some of the new Motorola is usable, but I doubt it. |
Re: Gutted I sold my N900 and bought an iPhone 4

Re: Gutted I sold my N900 and bought an iPhone 4
So weird, thankfully the buyer of the N900 offered it back to me and following day iPhone was sold too!
Ok, N900 is bit slower at times, but at least I can make it my own and it does SOOOO much more than the iPhone. :D |
