Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
...BUT! Classic Nokia shenanigans. What a surprise. The web is packed full of comments from people updating their S^3 devices to Anna, only to find certain features go missing, error messages on reboot, promised features such as portrait qwerty not there, the list goes on.
And to keep up their relentless giving-American-customers-the-finger, apparently they will be last on the list of countries for the update. Great new US strategy Nokia. Wonderful start. I'd like to see Elop try to update his N8 and have those problems people are having and realize things aren't going the way he likes to think they are. But he doesn't use an N8 does he. Or an N9. He probably uses a prototype iPhone5 the numpty. |
Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
I've been laughing at some of the comments over at AllAboutSymbian. I'll probably have a go at updating my N8 later, if only because at least one user has suggested that the Anna update cures the 'purple screen' issue (seems unlikely, but worth a go). The only third-party software I have installed is Opera Mobile, so I don't have much to lose on that score. Maybe this update will fix the issue with the Ovi Store application (endless loading after previous update). Nokia really are a bad joke when it comes to software updates. :/

Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
I have had Anna for two months now, now problems.
I don't understand you americans. You will be among the first to have WP. You constantly whine about Symbian, yet you want to be treated as first class customers. You are a sorry bunch of cry babies. |

I don't think Americans are cry babies (I'm British by the way) I just think anyone is entitled to a bit of a grumble when they spend $500 on an unlocked device and get crappy customer service, while their friends are on $99 phones subsidized by AT&T and Verizon, and have portrait - bloody - qwerty. |
Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
I think ericsson's attitude may well be shared by people within Nokia, which would go a long way towards explaining their current situation. Oh well, there's plenty more fish in the sea. :)

Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
It is normal procedure for Nokia to release updates in a staggered fashion. It is not Nokias fault that the US is 8 hours behind. So you have to wake up before you update your phone - so sad so sad - fck Nokia - and it's all Elops fault, i's a part of WP-Elop trojan maneuver. It must be, there is no other possible explanation.

Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
This was a forced release. I bet they wanted to turn attention away from this:
http://dailymobile.se/2011/08/16/sym...e-to-download/ And by the testing of it, seems more stable than Anna at it's current state...hmmm |

Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
Update went well and it works fine. Third party software is partially missing. Quickoffice and pdf-reader are at least still missing. Nokia told that problem is under investigation and will be corrected.
Browser is much better and also the caldendar |

Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber

Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
"fuking finger friendly"? I'll take resistive* all the way to Mexico. What is actually an issue with the capacitive touch area on my Cowon iAudio9 Media player, when i put it back in the protective case i often come near (just near, not touching it actually) it and trigger either next rack or fast forward, which sucks big titties. And if i actually want to trigger something directly on the surface, it is not as responsive as my N900. Not to mentioned my depressing tests with the oh-so-neat touch screen "resolution" on an Galaxy 10.1 tab some weeks ago...
* Resistive as in the N900. Not resistive as in a common airline entertainment system or older devices. |
Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
Mee too, but the resistive on the old N900 has become more and more sensitive lately (mypaint takes stylus input as finger) which is nice but I fear upcoming problem like in that "WEIRD TOUCHSCREEN PROBLEM" thread.
Anyway I love resistive (5800 and some older htc's had good resistives too - C5 is awwwful) |
Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is the mantra I'm thinking of when I think of my girlfriend's N8 and this Symbian Anna debacle. She is desperate for portrait qwerty and an improved Calendar, but I am not going anywhere near it with what I'm reading on the web. I'll wait until Nokia REALLY fixes it and then do it.
I'm alternating between using my N900 and my new E7. No way I'm updating my E7 with that crap. Works just fine right now. Shame it doesn't have the power or the multitasking of my N900. I keep going back to the N900. Man, why did Nokia have to change their plans with the N950? Such a damn shame. |

Once you get used to symbian/maemo multitasking (real task swapping) you realise how shite android/ios really are. Give me a symbian over a droid/ibawbag anyday. |
Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
An update with *#0000# + Check for updates + 2 updates at startup went smoothly for me
|
Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
That because you're MohammadAG!! Of course it went smoothly for you, you're half-human, half-Nokia!! ;)
I think it's because they're rolling it out country by country. You're in Israel I think if memory serves, so you guys have it before us in Yankee Land. Side note: I do like fMobi on the E7, but REALLY miss Sociality. Any chance that could be coming S^3 way? Cheers |

Unfortunately for him the thing eats battery in 3 hours when on 4G so he's turned that feature off. Also can't multitask without having an epileptic fit. I showed him how the N900 does it. He nearly cried. Why can't Nokia let the S^3 phones multitask in the same way, rather than the annoying horizontal scrolling list? Has it something to do with the Symbian homescreen being completely different to the hildon homescreen of Maemo5? Is that jbak taskman thing safe? It looks like something my brother made on his Commodore 64! ;) |

I mean... stop your whining. Sheesh. It's like you think it's Eurotopia or something with your funny colored and hard to counterfeit money. This spoof post was brought to you by the letter F and U. Seriously dude, if it were a Nokia update, most Americans wouldn't know nor care for it anyway. Use logic for once. |

Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
I got sick of waiting for the update and the small screen and slow processor of the N8 so I gave it to my friend and he gave it to his girlfriend. And I got a dual core LG G2X. I'm happy with it. It gets compared to the SGS 2 alot.

Updating Symbian is similar. I mean, why remove all the crap ware that has filled up the drive, hacked icons and themes that never worked correct in the first place, when you can have fun cursing Nokia for not even being able to make that fvcking Anna install properly? Apple has solved all this. The solution is called no brain - no head ache. |
Re: Symbian Anna finally wakes up from her slumber
Its a nice update, running fine on my e7 now (browser is still not good enough though). But Belle is what I'm really waiting for - at least based on the videos it seems to squeeze much more performance out from this aging hw (how much more it squeezes out from the battery remains to be seen..).
