I got an offer to swap my N900 for an Xperia X10

Hello,
What shoud I do? Xperia has a nice capacitive screen, and the newest OS from google. While I am stuck with OS from 2009. I like the 32GB, and a great camera on my N900, and the multitasking is way better here than Android, but n900 still seems slow. ( I hate when it starts to auto refresh ALL REPOS ON 3G!) And there are some great apps for android... I don't know... The value of N900 dropped dramatically since I got in spring 2010, so this seams a pretty good deal?

Thanks, for any opinions.

i would keep the n900, a couple of my friends have a x10. The only plus point it has is android store. But don't find myself in need of more apps, I also like my qwerty.

But the funny thing is that the apps is the main reason I would like to grab an android...

So the X10 has the worse build quality than the N900? Could you say that?

install NITDroid and voila the latest android version and all the apps

I respect the developers and their hard work (I know it took a lot of time to get nitdroid where it is) But it is a "proof of a concept" not something usable for me. It is slow compared to genuine android handsets, no GPS, no camera, limited phone capabilities. I tried nitdroid three times since the project begun. I even OCed, but it just made my N900 warm. Maemo stil runs wayyyy better. So while this a good advice, it is not the solution.

I just never thought the X10 to be anything worth having even when it was new. If you were talking about a galaxy s, maybe I would think about it. But only for a moment.

yes the only problem i have heard of with the n900 is the usb and tbh i haven't experienced this (touch wood) and hopefully never will since filing down the points on the charger and usb lead. i've had my n900 since Jan 2010 and the whole device feels the same as back then.

Talking apps - for OP : you know there is an app in the repositories which allowed you to switch off (if you want) the uodate, in 3G or wifi, that you're talking about (also there is a command via terminal if you don't want to install it..)?! ....at least it will not lagg anymore because of that annoying HAM update.....

Don't swap.
I had an X10 on their release and dumped it and kept my N900..
You will regret (at least, I did).

Was a happy owner of an X10 until it got stolen. A few months ago I would have told you not to go for it, but now that it finally has gingerbread and tons of custom roms (the last time i checked)... give it a whirl at least. I won't ever get an android device if it didn't have great community support, and the x10 has it in xda

Or you could just disable all the repos.

I would ask the other person why he wants to swap his X10 for your N900.

Yes, I looked there a few days ago, there were some performance tests, and this device flies with custom roms.

So N900 is gone. Now I am using Galaxy Tab P1000. Love the capacitive display, but multitasking is just awful. there in no way to close an app, you have to go into task manager and end tasks. Also many apps like to start by themselves and sit in the background, I have more the 20 of the sitting in the background. But overall I am satisfied, battery life is great, HSDPA is fast and browsing the web is great, flash works fine, tons of great apps.

There is an easy fix for that - as for much on the N900, which has to be the most customisable phone ever made.

Open x-term and type:

gconftool -s --type int /apps/hildon/update-notifier/check_interval 1440000

The phone will no longer auto update. Just go and do a manual update whenever you feel like it, instead.

Haha, I found this old post here, I have been away from this community for quite a some time. XDA is my new home. It's crazy to see there still is development going here. I sold my P1000 after a year and now bought Galaxy Tab 7.7 phablet. Great device. Snappy dual core, gorgeous non pentile SAMOLED plus 1280x800 display, big battery, and very thin at 7.8mm. Feels nice in hand.

Sometimes I look around for an old N900. 32GB is crazy amount of storage even today, and I loved the keyboard and things like x11 vnc, sftp and just clicking Ctrl + Shift + X and feeling like 1337 h4x0r :D
