Miniature has a experimental release for Maemo. It is based on a snapshot taken slightly before the Miniature 0.4 De Lucena release.

This package is functional: you can play games with other players but it contains some of the little bugs that we fixed in the last sprint prior to the 0.4 release. Apart from this, there are no Maemo specific bugs found so far.

Installation

One click install: miniature.install

We are looking for Maemo testers and maintainers. Any help improving the wiki page is appreciated!

The guys that developed the original Miniature for Maemo are the same that have worked on Miniature 0.4 - just 2 years older. ;)

Can you explain in more detail this rotation problem? In theory Miniature shouldn't rotate at all and we always in portrait mode. However, N950 users run into problems when sliding out the hardware keyboard. Maybe is this what you are referring to as well?

Can you please improve the installation instructions at http://miniature-chess.org/wiki/Maemo#Installation ? I didn't manage to install it in my first attempt (while doing 101 other things, so surely I didn't try hard enough - still this might be the case of many potential users). Thanks!

I hope someone takes the task to push Miniature up to Extras proper if that is possible at all one day. But a Maemo specific maintainer is needed for that. Ideally one that would send us the patches for Miniature so a single package could be built for every new release.

You really want mikhas and me to keep pushing new features and bugfixes to the master repo. If the peak is not alive and kicking then the long tail won't go further. Actually we welcome more developers to help on that as well - Miniature has so much potential.

As said, not much. Someone with the skills could prepare a proper 0.4 release and following releases, and even (I believe) integrate the changes in Miniature proper to have a package ready for Maemo too in every new release.

It looks like you have to install QtComponents before? (tap this link with your Maemo browser)

PS: welcome to the true meaning of "experimental"! ;) If you are not comfortable just wait until you see more users with Miniature successfully installed - and more specific installation instructions.

BTW, I copied the text parameters from the repository lin you provided at the first post to a new text file and renamed it .install, this created the repository in appman. Is this any way different from the one on the have posted above?

I installed it with the fapman, after installing the catalog with the help of my signature:)
And it works great.

So basicly, You should click on QtComponents within Maemo standart Browser a.k.a. microB, and then HAM will install a new catalog with Butaca and Miniature, which you can install as a always with help of HAM or FAM.

i am unable to get this catalogue working ,getting an error while trying to update my catalogues .Can some one post the correct Name/URL/distribution/components ?
Or simply make the catalogue CORRECT so that we dont need to edit it .it will work like Extras/extra devel etc.
Whoever has got working miniature on his device ,please post the catalogue info .TIA

Cool stuff. I have been basically waiting for a program like this for Maemo all the time. Now I can mate the folks on FICS from my phone too hrhr... :-)

Like a previous poster said, it rotates exactly into the wrong direction when the CSSU forces the rotation of apps.

@qgil : I was not talking about miniature (wouldn't dare,never tested it before :o) but about the original (in every meaning of this word) chess program already installed in every N900.

About the installation - qt-components is needed yeah, personnally I installed qt-components-examples which bring the dependencies needed (which one exactly ?)

Locking the orientation in landscape is enough for blocking the miniature rotation ( should try to put it on the blacklist for rotation sometime...).

So anyone to play against me? :) ...and no, not geneven, guess he's a pro....

-Include a chat system between the 2 persons who are playing! (no? just my opinion..dont shoot!)

- I still need to understand what is the orientation problem. Screenshots would help. I haven't been able to install Miniature in the N900 and fwiw I don't have CSSU, just stock Maemo. As for today Miniature is supposed to be always in portrait, so anything moving away from this is some kind of bug.

- Miniature 0.4 does have chat functionality, and at least in MeeGo Harmattan works. Ah, if someone would grab the 0.4 code and would generate a Maemo package...

I see. Well, this looks like something CSSU specific, then? I wonder if there is anything that can be done from Miniature itself to prevent this, or if it's a QtComponent specific thing, a CSSU bug...

About the chat, maybe you even have one but didn't notice? Please tap the black area below the opponent info area and see what happens. It should expand, offering you a text field to input text. Whatever you say should be received by the opponent, and you should be able to see his/her comments appear.

I don't know how the keyboard and rotation problem will mix, though.

I made a .install file, be sure to add it via HAM before doing the steps above. Note: (rename it to qt.install).

I have CSSU installed..
ammyt..
while in the game.. try pressing on the top left corner of the game..
it should take you back to the task manager of maemo..
then its orientation will go bad..
can you confirm if this happens in a non cssu os?

thanks to one and only inean who made it really possible for us to have the taste of one of first harmattan build app ,of which i am not sure even N9 users are installing /testing it . Please lets have one big applause for inean,the one of best developer that maemo has at the moment .
