Video calling on n900
 
Hello Everyone...!
can anyone tell me why there is no video calling support over 3G on n900...
and if it is possible in near future...

My guess is Nokia didn't thought things thru and washed their hands when people showed more interest in the N900 than they expected.

you don't have to feel inferior to your friends, it is possible to video call with N900, i use skype very often, phone to pc and sometimes google video chat, also phone to pc, i hope to do this phone to phone but i have no contacts with a N900

skype video call? How do you do it, please?

I've do google video call pc to N900, but it was always pc wich do the work.

I mean:

pc -> N900 => No problem.
N900 -> device => Unable to do it.

Go for settings, VoIP- and chataccounts
New
Select Skype
enter your username and password for skype and save

Yes, I have my skype account already saved.

And I can call across skype. But not video call.

...thanks for ur advice but most of my friends don't use skype...they just call each other via GSM 3G connection which my N900 cannot do...its really annoying...

3G video calls is not supported by Nokia N900 HW or only in maemo software? Meego (and other systems) use ofono, which is open source. If N900 HW support 3G video calls, should be it supported by ofono?

Maemo on Nokia N900 for GSM/3G network support use some closed source programs. And (closed) Dialer/Call GUI application for calls use this 3G closed programs for start/stop audio calls.

I just checked on my phone
settings, phone, by Networkmodus i have the choise for Dual, 3G or GSM.
originaly it was set on 2,5G
i chose 3G and saved, it worked.
now i changed back to dual and it stays on 3G.

You have to try a few times, to and back, i had the same problem but now its working fine.

ofono & n900 has the capability to do 3g video calls as only HW requirement for 3g video call is a camera(either back or front would do) + AFAIK ofono do support 3G-324M protocol which is used by 3g VOIP/video calls.

I really hoped I could help but last time I developed on a mobile platform was 3 years ago... Now I am a web developer :( plus it was still symbian.

Yup confirmed ofono indeed can do it. It has CS Network support based on the diagram.

It also supports sim management wonder why nokia didn't even add a simtoolkit on our n900 (>.<)

Uhh I could develop apps but never in my life tried working with drivers and stuff so no idea... But seeing how e-yes did ofono on nitdroid I can see how hard it is lol
