MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
From http://lists.meego.com/pipermail/mee...er/000739.html

Steering group is: Carsten Munk (Stskeeps), Jukka Eklund (jukkaeklund), Tom Swindell (alterego), Marko Saukko (Sage) and Vesa-Matti Hartikainen (veskuh) Their first meeting will be this Tuesday at 11:00 UTC, public and on IRC in #meego-meeting on irc.freenode.net - I'm sure there's a lot of questions what now, with this Tizen news and all. |
Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
Is the swap bug fixed for native installation on the N900 instead of the external card?
|
Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out

Thank you very much! |

MeeGo images come in 4gb sizes - it's a image file that pretty much contains the exact data of a SD card. What is being written to the eMMC is exactly this data, no more, no less The 'part' lines in this indicate how the partition layout looks like. This means that when the image is installed, the eMMC is partitioned as such: p1: 3.6gb ext4 p2: 8mb swap p3: 32mb FAT partition <rest of the emmc space free for partitions> In our normal SD card setup, we try to use the eMMC's typical setup to use this as swap - it's always bad to swap on same disk as you have the OS on. This means that our /etc/fstab has mmcblk1p3 marked as to be swapped on (eMMC partition 3). And well, since we overwrote the eMMC, we don't have that available. We don't want to live-resize partitions / auto setup partitions as it takes too long on boot To deal with this, you use a partition editor, possibly cfdisk /dev/mmcblk0 inside MeeGo, add the additional partition after partition 3 on eMMC, let's call it p4, mark it as swap - with like 2-3 gb's of swap After a reboot, then you mkswap /dev/mmcblk0p4 and change the mmcblk1p3 in /etc/fstab to mmcblk0p4 - and you have your swap active. CE 1.3 might in fact perform better now as it doesn't swap as much. |
Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
No i dont think so it is fixed..although my Emmc installed failed one a many times so i could not test it....still i would recommend installing it on the Sdcard, cause 1.3 has some loss of functionality as stskeeps said. That said, the performance on this one is good...been testing it for a few days now! thank you meego community.
EDIT : wonderfully explained stskeeps! :) |

Btw... I had seen that some Qml apps seems to run better on Meego CE than Maemo5 that proves that "Meego CE" is the way to go. However I wouldn't mind if the steering group decided to change name to "MER" or "Maemo CE" to make the rumors stop about a "dead platform" also give the project a some kind of "hypefactor" cause people may think "yay a great new OS" ;) I mean with all the "mess" behind Meego it has got alot of bad reputation even if the CE team has done a great job :) |

1) while MeeGo has (rightfully, in some ways) gained a bad reputation, no publicity is bad publicity - it's better to be well known and fix your reputation than start off and nobody know about you; 2) I think that the 'press' (and people in general) are getting tired of 'new' platforms all the time, the reception to Tizen has done nothing to change my opinion here. We have a (reasonably) established product that needs polish under a (reasonably) established name, let's keep going with our incremental progress and reap the rewards |
Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
... that's if it turns out possible to keep the name, obviously
|
Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
Somebody please post videos of Meego CE 1.3!!!
|
Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
Is there ANY possible chance that meego could be available as a progammable os for the N900 completely taking over the Maemo os instead of running from an sd card ?.

Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out

Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
@Woot
Agreed to 2nd point ,between it could be more fascinating if we could have just stick to one perfect OS ,no matter if it was meego, maemo or anything else . i love meego and i hope it is a big release and we see more of such work in future !! |

MANY people will want meego to take over Maemo IF it is capable of ALL components within the N900. Do this and meego will make breath taking ground for sure. |

Tried on my third "exprimental device". I bought this device very cheep (old user said wifi and camera was broken) and I reflashed Fremantle several times and didnt get wifi up. But for some reason I got it working on Meego 1.3 dont know how :O  Now I hope the adoption team make the camera alive too hehe ;) |

Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
Is it now possible to install Meego to a microSD card without it needing to be the first partition, which makes the card contents invisible to maemo.
I would like to try it, but want to keep the majority of my 32GB card available to maemo, and I don't really wanna swap cards every time. |

Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
Camera works fine out of the box in 1.3.
EMMC Install but again, if you are hell bent on it..then go ahead and post the results also ^.^ !..those would be really welcomed..i also tried to install on my emmc..but my ubuntu 11.10 network manager was screwing up stuff so it failed repeatedly.. :( ! |
Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
Great job guys :)

Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
Just ran it, worked well, until opening kasvopus and it just froze. Could not find a way to swap task or to kill task, so that ended my venture for now.
Helium works well. Performance is great. Status bar would not show signal, always had an x |

We also have gestures to switch on the way so we don't even need X buttons - worth a watch - gets interesting around 00:30 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xl7Djukoysc |

one other thing i found, the virtual keyboard would keep popping up at random times, even with the physical keyboard open. it would block the text input. |

@Trisha :
Download Ubuntu ISO from here : Ubuntu then write it to a USB/CD and boot from it. choose live cd mode. now you can use ubuntu without installing it. once in ubuntu download this these : Quote:
from : Meego 1.3 N900 CE once these downloads are done.. head over to : EMMC Install and follow the guide..if everything is done properly..meego will install on your emmc. |

I don't see anything like that now. Have the drivers been built into the testing build and, if so, which drivers are they (closed or open)? If not, where are the driver directions in the install notes? edit: typo correction |

Now that should make testing easier. There's alot of crashy apps here! The browser is nice and quick though. Is it possible to zoom? |

Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
Booting took a few attempts on my N900. Couldn't mount rootfs. I tried rewriting the MMC but that had no effect. Persisted with battery out cold start and finally got it going. Seems to boot reliably now (which is a good thing).
Have just run zypper up so not 100% sure what image I'm using. Browser is very fast for this HW. Scrolling seems intermittent but nice and smooth when it works. Camera is also very fast. Both of these are significant improvements on Maemo. Lots of things broken at this stage (so far I've had to restart because of crashes in Fennec, Packages and complete lock in Terminal. Video/Twimgo/Kasvopus not working) but if you want to see what Meego could be (could have been?) it's well worth a look. |
Re: MeeGo 1.3 Community Edition Fall Release out
Hey ! nice to hear...can anyone tell if meego1.3 is faster than 1.2 edition coz meego1.2 was very slow and unable to use..thanks
