Phone suddenly died
My N900 experienced a sudden death. I picked up the phone, dialed a number, got 2 signals and then it made some weird sound like "BZZZZZZ" and it died. Won't start, notification light gives NO indication when trying to startup/charge.
The only signs of life I got were, connecting the phone with no battery in it to the charger and I get a 1 second notification light flash (orange for charging). Is it possible the battery fried itself ? Can I do any more 'tests' to indicate where the problem is? I will try to find a spare battery from somewhere ( I ordered one from alienexpress like 5days ago ... the irony... ) to see if the problem lies there. |
Re: Phone suddenly died
Quite likely a fried battery. Don't put that battery back in the phone. Look at it from the side and see if it's swollen at all.

Re: Phone suddenly died
I second that !.

Re: Phone suddenly died
If it's not the battery, I am thinking it could be moisture. Because of the sound.

Re: Phone suddenly died
Battery doesn't seem swollen at all. And the phone was not in any reach of water. :\ I will try and find a test battery tomorrow to see if that changes anything.
P.S. Just in case - if anyone reading this is located in Birmingham, UK- please give me a heads up if you can lend me your battery for 2mins ;) |
Re: Phone suddenly died
Found a spare working battery, however the phone still won't start up at all. It doesn't charge either :(
R.I.P. :( |
Re: Phone suddenly died
Well for some insanely weird reason, the phone booted up today.... Played around with it, made a whole new backup... Then I made a call to try it out and once again, after a few signals it made the same BZZZZ sound and it died and once again shows absolutely no signs of life...
Any ideas what is causing this, can it be fixed and how come it boots whenever it wants  |
Re: Phone suddenly died
Well at least you have a Tablet then....

Re: Phone suddenly died
Yeah try running it with no SIM, and use this app to disable the cell modem, see if it works.

Re: Phone suddenly died
Not trying to be, just su*ks that it wont work as a phone any more, but at least it still works as you described, i unfortunately don't have any help/idea what's wrong. I to have old phones that doesn't work as phones any more, and they are absolutely useless because of this, at least the N900 can still be used for many many purposes other then a phone.

Re: Phone suddenly died
Well I'm not 100% certain that the phone part is dead. If the phone modem was dead, I'd understand why it crashes on a call and shut downs. However, that doesn't explain why it refuses to even start up after that with DAYS and suddenly out of nowhere it boots without a problem :|

Re: Phone suddenly died
This is not the most recommended way, but try to short the + & - in the PHONE only, the way to kick back some battery's in my experience (and i do have some hehe) is to apply MAX 4.2V to the battery directly + to + & - to -. this is directly to the circuit (plastic top).
Shorting the phone + & - could remove any power stored in capacitors, this would be the same that happened after some days of just laying around. |

Re: Phone suddenly died
Jep, just hold it on there for, well try 1-3 sec, see if it will turn on/boot, if not try more and more.
use a wire/screw driver/coin anything conducting. + and - is the first 2 closest to the edge of the battery compartment |

Re: Phone suddenly died
have you taken it apart to see if there would be any kind of water damage or anything
