Remote Desktop, Logmein, 3G USB

Thinking of getting one of these and have a few quick queries:

Is there a remote desktop/terminal services client available? - from searching here I have found references to rdesktop on N800, does it work on 770?

Does it work with www.logmein.com? - from searching it would appear not, is this correct ?

How well does it work when paired via bluetooh for 3g web access ?

The device has USB, do the 3G usb devices such as Huewei's E220 work with it.

I have found this via google but am not a linux expert so was hoping someone else has tested this and got it working on 770!

1- No. Logmein is java base
2- Very Well.
3- No. The N800 does not have USB host mode as of yet.

Logmein works with the new Mozilla browser, but not tthe old Opera based one.

Logmein works passably on the N800. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

there is a remote desktop client for the 770 that works very well...
it even resizes the desktop to fit on the nokia IT screen

it's supposed to work with a bluetooth keyboard too but I don't have one yet to try.

Thanks for the tip re the site, lots of interesting stuff there.

As a rule does stuff there work on the both the 770 and 800?

Also do you know if Mozilla works on 770 as logmein is the most important app for me

thanks

Hi Skearon ;)

Got the 770 myself this week and had tried with logmein using the standard Nokia browser but it wouldnt work. Just downloaded the Minimo app described above and it seems to go further, but still seem to have issues. Once I open remote control, I get a black screen. :(

Will test it out and let you know how I get on, but its ALMOST there from what I can see

Re: Remote Desktop, Logmein, 3G USB

OK. Seem to have it sorted.
Display is excellent, but its quite slow and every time you do something on remote pc, the whole screen reloads again. Need to mess about with it, BUT, it will certainly do what I need it to do. Dunno how much access you need or how long duration, but it will work anyway.

If you have any questions, give me a shout ;)

Hi fonedoc. I am exactly at this point of getting the black screen on trying to connect to my PC using logmein. I would be grateful if you could give some guidance on how to proceed from here as I know from your earlier post that you have managed to get to work. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Remote Desktop, Logmein, 3G USB

For logmein, you have to set it to 'html' mode. This will make it generate a large PNG image of your desktop, and when you click on it, it is supposed to send that click to the remote desktop. If you are using minimo, it seems to work. I always had problems with it using opera though. If you get a black screen, just click somewhere in the black area. HTML mode does not 'move' the mouse cursor until you click somewhere, so your computer is probably still on the 'blank screen' screensaver.

[edit: Opera won't send your clicks back to logmein, use minimo!]

Thanks for the reply spiderx and sorry for my ignorance but how do I set logmein to 'html' mode? I looked in the settings and all I could see is the disable html option that was "unticked". I am using minimo and I am certain that my main PC is not on screensaver but logmein on the nokia just doesn't seem to connect to it (can't move beyond the blackscreen after I click on the remote control button.

Hi
I went into preferences for logmein and changed to Mozilla instead of java for display mode and it worked fine using minimo. Hope this helps

Many thanks for the reply. Did what you suggested and that seem to have sorted the access to my PC out. Thanks again. The difficulty now is that I can't seem to use the nokia to enter any text on my pc, use contextual menu (right-click) or drag and drop any item. has anyone found a solution for this?

In reply to my own question and for the benefit of others, I have installed a virtual keyboard on the PC (click-n-type) to use to enter text and so on remotely. This still is a laborious option but it would be very useful for occasional use on an emergency.

Re: Remote Desktop, Logmein, 3G USB

Anybody here try vnc through GPRS using a bluetooth connection with a mobile phone?

Re: Remote Desktop, Logmein, 3G USB

VNC is far too slow for usage over GPRS. Maybe if you use ssh -C (compression) it might work.

Else, try NX (compressed X) or RDP.
