[ANNOUNCE] 0.2-1 HD Video Recorder

Announce:
HD Recorder

Install 720pREC.deb and you shall see its icon on your app list. Tap it, and 720p recording should start automatically. Once it starts, to stop recording, on your keyboard, tap ctrl-c.

The program creates a new folder in ./MyDocs/.videos called HD, and videos recorded will drop there. (Each recording has its own name.) No overwritng occurs.

New 0.2-1 version uploaded.

Humongous thanks @freemangordon @pali and all those involved in the DSP project.

BTW, to all people who installed the other .deb, please remove it and use this one instead, fixes the issue of videos not dropping in ./HD.

What format are the vids recorded in? Media player unable says format not supported...

A few questions

How is the play back with this? Is it as good as I hope?

How is the quality of play back through TV-out? I do realise that the n900 will still play in standard def but is the clarity any sharper than normal video shot with the cam?

Not for now, this is just a temporary solution until nicolai and the gurus updatw the CSSU camera-ui to support 720p.
New version 0.2:
*Uses a friendlier approach
*Script much more neater
*Will need a reboot to function

My N900 is getting replaced so can't try yet but I have a few questions. =)
- Does this need Kernel Power v49 installed?
- Does this need DSP overclocked to 600MHz?
- Do you need freemangordon's patch installed also? (to record)
- Does this record sound?

It is what HD is supposed to be, never tried with the TV-out yet though...

Just a hedas up, tah point why you're seein lotss ofd typos by me in many posts today incluiiding this one is becuase I'm using mah sis's xperia x10 mini pro's keyboard, which sucks!!

cannot access my icons now (no applications message)...
nor can i start any apps,
not even the console...
i also tried to go off-line to see if it would make a difference but didn't.
any ideas what might be happening?

it doesnt show video recording in camera.. just a blank screen.. but after i stop my recording i can see what i have recorded in mplayer.. weird!! anyways tks ammyt.. great job

ok manage to recover my n900 after this application messed it up.

problem was i could not see any of my application installed, nor could i start anything like terminal.

i manage to start terminal via the hotkey:
ctrl – Shift – X is open x-terminal
then i remove the app as follow
apt-get remove 720prec
and finally removed all traces of app as follow
apt-get purge 720prec
finally rebooted

i had the same problem. do

keep tapping xterm (or via ctrl-shift-x), it will open sooner or later, than

apt-get purge catorise than restart fixed it for me.

Then how come you install an application without knowing what it does? Goddammit if you don't even know what the DSP is then why did you install it Mr.Smarty?
There is a huge thread by freemangordon called [HOW TO]Watch 720p videos on N900 that is where the patch that you should install lies. The problem that you"re describing is completely irrational, 720pREC doesn't alter any deep structural code oh hildon-desktop! It's just, an app.

My question is, I said that you have to have freemangordon's DSP libraries there which enable HD playung/recording, if you knew that you've never seen that either why the heck did you install it? It's either that your blind, or a #$!&#@&!

Sorry bud, if you don't know how to install a .deb file via application manager then you need to learn lots of things in life,

To the point, of course i know what the application is suppose to do, hence why i tried to install it, except your instructions in the 1st post did not mention anything about the need to first install other components, etc to get this to work. You should update your 1st post so others are aware of the steps needed to get your app to work.

In any case i think i will wait till we get an official version which does not require farting around with alpha components.

any work going around for incorporating microphone feature also...?? it would be nice to listen sound also.. :p

I think the naming of the /usr/share/applications/hildon/720p\342\202REC.desktop file breaks catorise.
The name might be actually different, this is what my PC makes of it and the n900 will have 720p��REC.desktop file in above location

I really need help with gstreamer commands, I have been trying since the last 5 hrs! No go. I cannot record video + audio, always get data flow errors, unable to link elements... I hate gstreamer. I really need help.

Can somebody report if this records audio?

Then in your MyDocs folder, play the test.
It should play what was recorded. Now, how can I merge this with the video recording?
