Best free SIP provider (include call in number)

hey everybody:

Everybody is extremely excited about the new Software comm update as it now includes a SIP client, but I have found that it is extremely difficult to find a reliable one.

Most of them let you install software but they are no SIP setting anywhere to be found and they are CERTAINLY need it to configure the sip info on the n800

SO DOES ANYBODY...know any reliable FREE sip provider out there and that also gives you a Call -in number(so people can call u from their phones) or at least a valid SIP number to use with SIP Broker.com and easy to configure on the N800. BEtter if you are already using it, and If you could please let me know about the configuration.

Thank you again

P.S: I heard of Grand Central but not sure how good is it... Anybody has an extra invite send to.. scrappy898(at)aim.com

Grand Central provides a forwarding number but isn't for use with SIP. You'll still need a SIP number with GC.

Re: Best free SIP provider(nclude call in number)

I'm now using GrandCentral as a call-in to my Gizmo Project (SipPhone) account - this works with RTComm well, follow the instructions at the RTComm web site. Still haven't found a good callout service - I'm both a cheapskate and untrusting of some of the places with too many asterisks next to their advertisements.

Re: Best free SIP provider(nclude call in number)

Draytel http://www.draytel.org/ offer the ideal SIP service, no fees, no monthly subscriptions, free incoming geographic number, outgoing call rates are reasonable. The snag for most on this forum is that the incoming geographical numbers are UK only.

This http://www.voxalot.com/action/home is interesting, lists VOIP (SIP?)providers in respective countries and rates them by Call Quality, Support etc. If nothing else it is a useful list of sip providers in your location along with an assessment to aid evaluation.
Voxalot claim to allow access to all of them. I need to look more into this service when I have a bit of time.

I also use Grandcentral for my real land line inbound number with gizmo, works nice.

All we need is a free outbound SIP provider for gizmo, and we have a free wifi phone.

Some one out there has to be offering good qualirt free voip, say with a 30 second ad in the begining of the call to support the call costs..

Best free SIP provider with call in numbers

Why not signup with voxalot.com , this is purely a VOIP account , but can easily be used with the sipbroker pstn Numbers.

This gives you a free 'local' call-in number in most cities around the globe.

IPKall anyone?
http://www.ipkall.com/

They provide free Washington state area code phone number that you can forward to any SIP account... I have used that in the past with Sipphone (Gizmoproject).

I also learned recently that Gizmoproject allow outgoing calls to some PSTN phone numbers free. They call it backdoor dialing:
http://gizmo5.com/pc/backdoor/

I tried it and at least T-Mobile (USA) cell phones can be called free! When I called my T-mobile cell using it, it showed a 660 area code phone number that I could also call back from cell to my VoIP, all without ever purchasing a PSTN number for my sipphone VoIP account.

EDIT: Just in case you wonder, sipphone (gizmoproject) support standard SIP, and I use that account with my Grandstream hardware SIP to PSTN adapter linked to my home phone as second line. The primary line is from Vonage.

Can anyone else still goto the ipkall signup page cause it fails to load for me.

Re: Best free SIP provider(nclude call in number)

I have two sip accounts. The first one was actually a gizmo account, but since it is using the sipphone.com network, I just entered the credentials in the built-in sip client and it works just fine. Incoming numbers cost a fee and the talk quality is miserable (at least to European countries). So I never use it.

The second one I opened at sipgate.de They gave me (for free) a number in Munich (where I live). It is quite easy to use it either on the N810 or on my E51. OTOH, sipgate insists on using standard ports, which means I can't use it via an UMTS connection (I can't be called, my phone network blocks that port). Here the quality is decent within Germany, and sometimes unusable when I call French numbers.

So in the end, I am not really pleased with SIP. Sure it is cheap, especially when I travel (compared to roaming charges or calling from an hotel room), but I would prefer a phone system that works.

OTOH, quality is fine between two sip accounts. I tried that when travelling to New Zealand, I set up another sip account and a phone adapter at home for that purpose at the time. The problem is that you need to have your friends or family use the same sip provider. And if you want that, you might as well get them another Nokia and use google talk. That's what I did with my mother and my sister and we now converse almost exclusively using the Internet. Quality is almost always fine, and we have the bonus of having the picture... ;)

Re: Best free SIP provider(nclude call in number)

You certainly don't need everyone to be using the same SIP provider , just make sure the providers you do use support peering.

SIPPhone / Gizmo5 do support peering whereas SIPgate.de/.co.uk don't.

You can easily find this out by looking at the SIPBroker White Pages.

For a dial-in number in many countries look no further than the SIPBroker PSTN page , now you can dial a local number at the prompt enter the VOIP providers 'code' and then your contacts SIP number. easy.

Re: Best free SIP provider(nclude call in number)

I'm also looking for a SIP solution in the Netherlands. Last time I researched this there was no way to get incoming calls from non-sip phones. I'm a bit suspicious of those 'free' services. Do they make money from direct marketing?

Re: Best free SIP provider(nclude call in number)

SIPBroker is free because it is part of the voxalot range of services.

The PSTN to VOIP service is usually a local number or a nationwide lo rate number , but I guess the sponsors make a small amount of money for each call to pay for the service.

I can't see how you could be marketed to as you don't enter any details to use the service. I certainly have never been spammed or similar.

Give it a try.

Thanks .. I've managed to get zero direct marketing calls on my land line. It would be nice to have that on a SIP line as well.

Indeed, that should be a solution. OTOH, peering does not always work when it should. From personal experience, sipbroker lists are overly optimistic, especially in Europe.

Re: Best free SIP provider(nclude call in number)

sipgate.co.uk is quite good for providing a free PSTN ->to-> SIP gateway, you have to buy credit for SIP->PSTN

you get a choice of geographic number (I have two accounts, one is for my rural/home area, one for nearest city) or the non-geo number (0845 etc).

one nice feature of sipgate is call forking; I can be logged in with n800 and also with sip phone (siemens cordless/DECT + voip thing) so both ring and the first to answer completes the call.

downside: their voicemail system sounds as if it were recorded by a prison guard!

Re: Best free SIP provider(nclude call in number)

I had found a free SIP provider which said they'd give me 300 free minutes per month but after the first month it stopped working. Also, the quality was not that good.

I had already been using a virtual office with speech recognition (http://ow.ly/42m0) to handle routing to my home and mobile phone and I remembered getting an email on how to make free video calls using the N810. Well guess what? I called them and let them know I had bought a Nokia N810 and was wondering how I could make mine do that. They created a SIP account and it works with the existing number they had given me. The SIP account looks like this: "9999999999@9.99.999.99".

This account comes with "call-screening" and unlimited incoming/outgoing calls.

I've been using the service for a month now and the voice & video quality is excellent. I use the standard "New Internet Call" which already came installed with the N800/N810.

Though the service is not free, it is well worth the price ($35/mo) if you switch your home, mobile & N800/N810 over to the service as I did. They give you one personal phone number which will route to any device you are using.

A1Mega

P.S. One thing I wish the "New Internet Call" allowed is typing numbers while on the call. This way I could press "3" to delete a msg, "1" to send, etc.

About using gizmo5 account with rtcomm

how comes it can not call sip numbers like sip:0123456789(a)freephonie.net ?

(Maybe I need to ask this in g5 forum too ...)

Do you know some better free alternatives for that ?

Re: Best free SIP provider(nclude call in number)

I am using voipcheap.com from the betamax group. A bit of warning. Don't expect any support from betamax group.

Most likely you will not need support though.

I pay EUR 10.00 and have 400 minutes of free calling to almost all landlines in the world per week free of charge for 90 days. If I call mobiles it will deduct money from the 10 EUR. If you do not call much you can use the 10 EUR after the 3 months are over. I call ALOT and will typically use 10 EUR per month (as I also call mobiles) this is why i have about 300 "free days" which means i can call land lines free of charge for 300 days...

Call quality is suberb. I use a N95-8GB (for travel) with built in sip client and a Gigaset C475IP (for home)

Guys,

I found SIP calls quite working well on nokia n900 with the help of IPKall(Provides a completely free PSTN number if you have a sip account. PSTN only for incoming call) and PBXes(provides a free SIP account) and it works great for me(:)only incoming call:)), refer the link below for setting up the sip account in PBXes for incoming call,

How to setup PBXes, step by step

Note
1) First create a PBXes account as said in the above link and use that credentials to get a Washington DC number from IPKall.
2) When Setting up Trunk Provide 'voiper2.ipkall.com' instead of voiper/voiper2.ipkall.com.
3) Keep dummy credentials where ever IPKall information is asked for and you can fill once the IPKall account is created.
4) PBXes does not allow registration from Internet Explorer (atleast on my PC ), use Firefox instead:D.IE keeps giving the captcha error.

I have not enabled "Use for telephone Numbers" because it does not work for outgoing calls.

Thanks a lot to IPKall and PBXes for providing the free service.

Re: Best free SIP provider (include call in number)

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I'm having issues with the IPKall + PBxes method.

I've set up everything and I can make and receive calls; however every 20 minutes or so PBXes sends me a trunk outage notification email. After which I'm no longer able to receive calls (but I can still make them, which is weird...)

How do I fix this/what's the problem here?

GIZMO - GIZMO5 killed by Google, need new SIP provider

Now that google has given the official obituary on GIZMO, this old post should be getting a lot more activity from folks such as myself that are searching for a GIZMO / SIP provider. :o

I need a replacement SIP phone service w/ call-in number that'll work on:
Nokia 770 & n800
Linksys wireless ip phone
Grandstream ht486 & 286
various Linux desktop computers, laptops & netbooks.

I'm just getting started on this quest, but so far Ekiga is looking like it may be a functional softphone on our desktops, where Linphone is not able to (on some) but still need the SIP call-in number & service.

Softphones are not at issue; it's the hardware adapters that we need to get back up & running.

I am in the US but it would be good to have functionality in Germany, Sweden, Abu Dhabi, South Africa, & Eastern Europe.
Vietnam would put frosting on the cake.;)

Comments & suggestions please? ... and thanks in advance. :D

Re: Best free SIP provider (include call in number)

I have opened an account for my relatives with freecall.com few months back. They offer free calls to US and many other countries, assuming you have loaded some credit in their account. (Free calls worked few days even without crediting the account.) The incoming number problem I solved with IPKall. For outgoing calls the caller ID shows a random number, which is a bit of annoyance.

To open an account you need to download their softphone app first. After that you can put the credential to a SIP adapter (Grandstream HT486 in my case).

For comparison shopping I found this web site handy:

Re: Best free SIP provider (include call in number)

I'm using didlogic. Mostly because of the low cost to +4915XX mobiles in Germany ($0.04). Their Frankfurt-based SIP proxy location also helps. I'm OK with their pings in both Sweden and Germany. https://didlogic.com

Not so happy about the DIDs but they do offer URI routing to your current provider like voipcheap, sip2sip, or ipkall. I'm using sip2sip to register my fritzbox and receive inbound from didlogic via the sip2sip, and outbound is through didlogic. This type of combo works well.
