Nokia Lumina 710 & 800

So are these the god phones that Elop promised were necessary, & required going all in with one OS/ecosystem?
http://www.nokia.co.uk/gb-en/products/featured-phones/
They're not looking that amazing at all to me personally...
Lumina 710 & 800, former was going to be called 703, according to rumors.
I wonder if there's one other they'll announce before EOY that's far more beefy overall?

Re: Nokia Lumina 710 & 800

I'm under-whelmed...

We need an N9 owner to compare side by side with the 800.
(Google Nokia 800 and N800 keeps showing up!)

Yeah, sure. Even the resolution is not correct in this sheets. Why does a company employ dumb apes to create those kind of sheets? They are so often full of typos, errors and mistakes.

Exactly what I expected. Windows phones with Nokia logo. Nothing more nothing less, but why would anyone expect more?

Oh and lol@ Elop whoring Alvar Aalto/Finland/finns in the keynote. Not a single finn on stage, pictures of California surfers, ESPN, Cookie Monster, etc, etc. Angry Birds is the only authentic finnish thing in that phone. Especially distastefull was showing those factory workers, most of whom will lose their jobs in January when Nokia stops making phones in Finland. Mr. Elop, it might be time to stop abusing my culture and heritage for marketing your boring and generic industrial products.

Why did it take them so long to get a windows phone to market? HTC or Samsung etc would have achieved it much sooner.

Check out the sales pack contents for the 'Lame'ia 800:

Sales Package

Nokia Stereo Headset WH-902
Nokia Fast USB Charger AC-16
Soft cover, color match to phone
Nokia Charging and Data Cable CA-185CD
Quick Guide, User Guide and Product information leaflet

It appears the sales package will be missing the actual phone. :D

Now i get it why Nokia is shipping them this fast :D:D

Re: Nokia Lumina 710 & 800

I wonder if the 800 is actually using SAMOLED+ plus Nokia twks?
It is described as an AMOLED CBD....
But the N9 was described similarly, & it's actually a SAMOLED (pentile) + nokia twks.

Did anyone else notice this photo doesnt show a dedicated camera button or front keys? meanwhle some of the other photos do show the camera key. So N9 images used for the 800. Brilliant.

Usually it takes about 15 months to create a new phone, from design to market. The new Nokia handsets were made in lass than half of that time.

Re: Nokia Lumina 710 & 800

What is interesting is that Nokia is calling the 800 a "true nokia device", probably to hide that it really isn't
Compal was thanked in the presentation. So I think the 800 isn't made by Nokia, but by ODM Compal.

Nokia also made a point that the speakers holes are drilled in the 800. In the N9 they are also, since the N9 is carved from a bigger peace of plastic. The 800 isn't, it is "injection molded", just like all the other mobile phones today. So either the production method for the N9 also had serious problems, or compal just couldn't use a similar production method.
The Nokia 800 is like a legitimately branded Chinese knock-off of the N9.

Also the Lumina 710 is like a replica of the Nokia 603, but with a nicer color selection.

The Nokia maps, and the radio mix is a way to fix the missing features for people coming from Symbian to Windows phone.
A shame that NFC isn't implemented in the phones, wonder if it isn't present or just not supported by software.

According to one blog "Asha" means "Hope" in Hindi. Not sure if Nokia should be selling hope, consider how little of that it has left.

Apparently they won't have time to do the deep level stuff till WP8+.
But as far as integrating SwipeUX + much of Harmattan's functionality into WP.
I seriously doubt MS would ever let them tweak WP that massively.

Besides... By the time WP8 comes round...
Anything it doesn't have that Harmattan does, will be almost non-existent.
Unless Nokia continues to aggressively develop Maemo.

here if the full compare between Nokia Lumia 800 & Nokia N9.....

Nokia Lumia 800 vs Nokia N9

Nokia N9 lost only at his processor....

1GHz Cortex A8 CPU, PowerVR SGX530 GPU, TI OMAP 3630 chipset (n9)

1.4 GHz processor, Qualcomm MSM8255 chipset, 3D Graphics HW Accelerator (Lumia 800)

Allow me to doubt that Nokia will add anything significant to Win phone 8. At beast there will be a Nokia theme for tiles

The real question is could Meego from Nokia N9 run on the Nokia 800?

Then I could buy the cheaper 800 and dump Meego on it!

Rauha 2011-10-26 11:42

Re: Nokia Lumina 710 & 800

The 710 seems to be same hardware minus 3 megapixels and less hyped screen technology. Price difference 420 vs. 270. I would definately go for 710, if I wanted WP7 phone.

How can the N9 have 64gb? but these have so little?

you do understand that these SoCs are really hard to compare?
Qualcomm uses a Cortex A8 derivative called Scorpion, they can't be compared in a MHz race. I don't know if 1.4GHz Scorpion is faster than 1GHz Cortex A8 (like comparing a Intel Core chip to a AMD Phenom).
Also the GPU is totally different, as are dsp cores. etc. etc. Add the fact that the OS-es also are totally different: impossible to compare.

is lumia 800 really only quad band 3g? shame and i don't see the point of not including 1700 when n9 has it. gotta pass on this one...

i was thinking of the possibility to dual boot n9 with windows till i realize that it doesn't have the 3 buttons of a windows phone...

Re: Nokia Lumina 710 & 800

I am outraged at the proposed pricing for the Nokia 800. $585 usd?!? While many of us here in the states are struggling to find a reputable source of a N9 16GB that isn't around $725. That little extra bit of screen size surely isn't worth that much. I'm sure they might be paying MS some sort of licensing fee, so why the hell is it so much cheaper? It feels like a slap in the face for those who want Nokia HW and more importantly SW.

When connected via USB, you have access to the filesystem to drag/drop files without having to use some crappy sync software ala iTunes etc.
