(POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
yes i know its been a great ride with this phone, but lets face it we have to move on, its hardware is getting a bit old, now many of us have already changed their phones, many if us moved to meego and some to android, the n900 is one hell of a device but even for a loyal user like me its time to change, i;m selling the device this week end for 200 $ and getting the samsung galaxy s2 next weekend :D so whats you next device after the n900 or what phone dud u get after the n900 ?
|
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
n900...
what means getting old? is it getting old because you see other phones with better specs in the market or because it is going more and more slow????? my next phone after the n900 that I have is another NIB n900. "n900 is getting older" threads are boring :) regards! |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
N9 black 64GB.
It isnt the N900 (obv) and is a average substitute. Dont get the S2, wait for the Nexus or get the Note. |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
possible options:
* waiting for an ICS phone with slide out keyboard. better design than mt4g slide and not moto * mt4g if i can't wait * sharp aquos 007sh or samsung sch-w999 * sharp 7218u or 7228u |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
What do You expect from this new thread?
Some totally different result? The N900 is old, but (overclocked) not yet at its end. Some newer phones may have better specs, but certainly no better possibilities ! The only successor to the N900 may be a N950, but ... |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900

Yes, someday I will get a new phone. But not now. My previous phone was an iPhone (first generation); I used it until its battery began to die. It lasted me a good, oh, four years I think. Probably would have been longer if it had a replaceable battery. I have enjoyed my N900 far more than I ever did my iPhone, and I've only had it for about a year now. I see no need to plunk down hundreds of dollars on some piece of incrementally faster hardware. Moreover, looking at the options available, it seems to me that the smartphone market is imploding -- there is, today, pretty much nothing but the iPhone and a whole pile of wannabe iPhones (even the N9 has succumbed to the iPhone clone sickness). Why would I want to switch? Nah, I'll hang on to my N900 until it actually begins to fall apart. If nothing like it has appeared by then (hopefully some years into the future), I'll just find another used N900 to replace it. |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
In a perfect world it would have been the N950.
I'm going for the N9. |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
Samsung galaxy note
|
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
Maybe Motorola Droid 4 when comes the next year, its the smartphone most similar to the N900, I really need a complete qwerty keyboard. But for now... N900!

Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
i never said the n900 can't be used anymore, i'm just saying that some people like to stay updated with the last tech ......
|
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
I'll be using the N900 as N900 and the N9 as a phone. They are very complementary.
N950 whenever I can steal it from Nokia. |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
It's my "sixth sense" that an improved N950 will be released to the public for sale.
I used the N900 for the past 18 months though I purchased a 4" 1GHz Xperia before I bought the N900. I found the android phone is useless for me as I need to ssh to my server typing tons of commands daily. |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
yes we all agree that the n950 is that perfect phone, but we can't get it :P
|
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
N950 should not be in the list since every one can not get it.
BTW i am stying with my beloved N900 as my signature shows. |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
So far for me it will be the note or any other that has HD RES screen, hopefully some manufacture will make something like it with 4.3-5.5inch screen and HWKB, and last but not least an open OS, or the possibility of completely removing OS and installing ubuntu on it..
Yes you can run ubuntu on android like we have our easy debian, but it is so stupidly made by running it through a VNC server locally instead of just running it on top. But until then nothing still comes close to the N900 in my opinion |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
guys don't forget you can vote for more than one phone, for example i wanna keep my n900 and get a samsung galaxy s2 so i'll vote for both ...

Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
I decided to get the Galaxy S2 and have been very happy with it. Incredibly quick, and beautiful samoled screen.... I can't complain.
that being said there are days when I miss the openness of my N900. Like the ability to just drop in Hindi into the fonts folder so I could read Hindi pages. Or the Obviously superior multitasking. Sigh. if I could get maemo 5 on my S2, I'd giggle like a schoolgirl. |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
i want a new phone that shows everything that the net has. i hate when they use mobile net. i need fm transmeter. ir remote,. is there a phone out there that has this now? i still keep my 900 hundred until this happens.
|
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
Hopefully get my Galaxy Note delivered next week.
I've come to the realisation that I don't care so much about the OS as I do about the biggest screen possible (that'll fit in my pocket!). But the N900 was great fun...... |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
it'll have to have stereo speakers, highly customizable desktop, plenty flash memory and modRana like tracklogging
i think i narrowed down my search one or two steps :) |

Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
I'm keeping N900(and working on N950) and waiting for some Ubuntu-running phones/tablets. Canonical is apparently working on that, and that would be my optimum phone... so long as I can remove it's unity interface and throw a KDE-based one on it(perhaps with Hildon as well?)... but that'll be a while down the road.
|
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
i'll get another n900, it'll only get old when another device matches/surpasses what it can do :)
|
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
honestly. If they would impliment the ui of the n9 on the new wp7 I might be interested if there werte a qwerty keyboard to go with it but right now? there just isnt anythin gou tthat is as much fun to use, has as much functionality, or a better os. I mean I admit the hard ware is old but there still is nothing out there that compares to that lil task manager button in the upper left corner of the phone. I will upgrade as soon as something comes out worth upgrading to. I like android but its just not as much fun or productive to use.

Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
Haven't settled on an upgrade this time around. Sticking with the N900 on a vastly reduced tariff (£10.50pm as opposed to £40.00pm).
I'll put the money I save towards a much needed upgrade for my PC instead and get a replacement digitizer for the N900. I know the N900 is bulky but I'd rather have a device that I can touch all four corners of the screen with my thumb while holding it in the same hand. |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
Nokia N9 would be OK... even with outdated 1GHz single core CPU... but it is not sold in US.
So - anything with 1.2GHz-1.5GHz dual core Android which works on T-Mobile. |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
I was about to vote before I noticed in small words: Be advised that this is a public poll: other users can see the choice(s) you selected.
I'm personally stuck in between half way road here. The N9 and N950 looks tempting even if I still have my other N900. What really annoys me with N9 is that I cannot pair with bluetooth keyboard according to rumours. Even worse is that N9 doesn't have host mode capability enabled by default let alone keyboard mapping support. So even if host mode can be enabled after one gets around all this stupid aegis crap there's still no support for attached USB keyboard. Other than that N9 lacks hardware keyboard which has been my main concern for at least 75% of the time. I'm not a fan of attaching extra keyboard by other means and ultimately something like N900/N950 with the hardware keyboard built-in is something that I would love. I still love N950 even though I don't have one. I have contemplated of somehow sourcing one whenever I hear N9's woes. Apart from N950 (which is literally impossible to obtain a genuine one in the first place by other means) I'm constantly thinking of whether should I fork out money for N9 or not. As for the rest of the choices, I am in no rush to buy an android powered devices as I may decide to hold out with my N900(s) or may buy N9/N950 and holding out any further purchases. android is my second choice in line apart from the dying maemo/meego platform. I have no interest with WP7/Mango/WP(whatever) devices as I'm through with using windows on a phone. Not that I've used one before but its not at the same time will I ever want to use one. My experience with windows on a normal computer has been nothing but absurd and I wouldn't want to deal with it coming from a device that has to deal with my busy life and being reliable. Furthermore I always abhor the idea of using windows logo on the front of the device and as a button. Apple's iphone has its logo in the rear and its non functional yet microsoft wants to make a big statement that whatever you're holding in your hands is a windows phone with that logo which seconds as a button. I have also noticed symbian platforms are part of the options and again I've had my share of symbian. I would never want to deal with that dreaded platform with security measures that inspired aegis platform for maemo/meego. Neither with its feeble features that lacks scripting in more ways than one and the locked bootloader would really interest me in purchasing any one of symbian powered devices any more. I have toyed a bit of iphones (not that I actually did own one), they are quite attractive inside out in some respects but I cannot stand the walled garden approach neither could I stand the various ways apple tries to clamp down on trivial things as sharing things that actually belong to you. For instance, taking a photo and sharing it via bluetooth isn't possible without jailbreaking iphone. At least for now I may continue to hold back a little longer until I see interesting things. Maybe maltemi will come true and will have the features that I've seen in N900 is made available again. Maybe tizen will please me instead or maybe there's some other platform that will please me. Again only time will tell whether or not will such vapourware (maltemi and tizen) be materialised and in the manner that I can accept it. I noticed Sony being listed as potential candidates. Let me remind you that I'll never want to buy a sory branded device. Its epic DRM measures has forever scarred me since minidisc days and I have now blacklisted any sory devices capable of storing and/or recording data. sory can rot in hell for all I care because they deserved to be. |
Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
A hardware keyboard is quite useless in MeeGo-Harmattan. There are very few keyboard shortcuts and many of the applications are locked to portrait. Even vi is easier to use with the VKB, due to the way the terminal behaves when the HWKB is open. If you want Harmattan, you may as well just get an N9 and stop worrying about the lack of HWKB. The N950 seems to have acquired some kind of mythical status solely because it is not widely accesible. The only reason I would take the N950 over the N9 is because of the metal construction. Nokia can call it polycarbonate all they want. I call it plastic.

Re: (POLL) what's you next phone after the n900
