[Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

Yesterday I've started to work on a call blocker for harmattan
I took khuong's callerx daemon and change some part of the code, and made my own UI.

The callerx daemon runs always in background and starts on every reboot.
You no need to open the Call Blocker app everytime you start the device.

It's just a start, but I think it's working

Here's a screenshot of the UI:

Download:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12134784/MEE....0.3_armel.deb

I'll upload source to gitorious when it's more stable.

Please let me know how it works

Hi, you said that it starts when the phone is switched on, so what about the battery life if the application is always running in background?

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

its been installing for at least 5 mins, did it thru filebox...

tried to install via xterm, aegis wouldnt let me. rebooted and saw icon in app view, but app doesnt work. may be due to failed install.

edit: re-installed via xterm, and it still doesnt block calls

It does nothing in background, so it should not eat the battery.

I've uploaded the file again with some changes
I've installed it using filebox now to check and it works.
Please try again.

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

will this evolve into an sms blacklist app too?

petehaley 2011-11-10 18:21

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

Excellent stuff, thank you very much for this!

I'm just wondering where the blacklist file is located, so that I can add hundreds of numbers in an easier way?

I used to have a blacklist of 1600 numbers from known telemarketing companies and block those when I till used Symbian.

It's all in the same file
/home/user/.config/cepiperez/callblocker.conf

Great, thanks!

Do all numbers have to be on the same line or can I use brackets or escaped newlines?

It would also be nice if the app could import numbers from the phone book.

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

Maybe I'm wrong but is behavior not inverted?

I mean: I enter a number in blacklist and put "Calls block mode" on Blacklist . And when the number calls me, I receive the call. But if I choose "Calls block mode" on Whitelist ... the number goes automtically on my voicemail.

It's not inverted for me. The numbers I put in the blacklist are blocked, others are not.

I just filled up my list with about 300 numbers, so I'll have to test if it works as it should in the next couple of days. Usually I get 2-3 calls from telemarketers every day... :(

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

Great feature. Should have been part of the os!

Btw, what's the whitelist for? Shouldn't all numbers by default be on the whitelist (not blocked) if not on the blacklist?

CepiPerez 2011-11-11 11:17

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

When you use the whilelist, if the number is not in the list, the call is droped

Oh I see, thanks for the explanation.

New version 0.0.2 is available to download
I've made some small changes to prevent multiple instances of callerx and I've added block unknown numbers option.
Check first post

It's possible in future block sms too?

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

Thank you for this app. I'm wondering perhaps it's possible to select the blacklist/whitelist from my contacts (phonebook)? Also is there a way to set the voicemail number or forward to another number?

I see there's the settings icon at the lower right corner of the app screen (3 lines) but when I press it, it doesn't do anything....

Cheers!

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

Can someone tell me what is the default blocking action and if we can add to the lists a contact with all the numbers at once or we have to add each number of that contact separately?
Thank you

You will have to add, one at a time the numbers you want to put in the list. There is no option to just select them from the contacts list... If I power cycle my N9, it doesn't work. I need to open the app again.. Default action is a busy tone... I can't find any setting to divert to VM or another number.....

Thank you for your response. I believe best blocking action is mutting the ringer but I found that only at symbian devices.

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

Some suggestions

- Wildcard option (ie. block everything that starts with +001...)
- Numbers that do not send international country code should be blocked when they're registered with international country code, too)
- Block Log would be great
- Add numbers from Contacts would help
- Add numbers from Recent Calls/Missed Calls/Received Calls would help as well
- Multiple lists would be great... so you can activate or deactivate certain lists depending on your needs.

However, thank you for this early version. It's already working well.

For me, it only works when all numbers are in the same line separated by a comma. But you can edit a list with Notepad (use "Replace..." option and remove all spaces and incompatible characters). Not the most comfortable way but probably the easiest at the moment.

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

This application works, but I find that for some reason when a blacklisted number calls the ringtone fires off once before the call is dropped. This doesn't happen every time but almost always.

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

How is going ? Do you plan to build a SMS blocker app ?
Thank you

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

I've updated the app to add numbers from contacts list
It works, but stills in test version, cause I can't find a decent way to do this

Here's the installation package:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12134784/MEE....0.3_armel.deb

Also, I've uploaded sources to gitorious:
https://gitorious.org/callerx-harmattan
https://gitorious.org/callblocker

Sorry, I never made a project in Qt Creator with 2 projects inside. CallBlocker is the main program, and it needs callerx binary before make the .deb

Have fun

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

PR1.2 - app doesn't work, unknown numbers, blacklist numbers - no effect.

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

I just confirmed it isn't working as well. :-(

Hopefully there is an update before the spammers start calling again!

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

I can confirm it doesn't work as well with my N9's. Running PR1.2.

I'm sure CepiPerez would come up with the update in the coming days. ;)

e-d0uble 2012-03-15 09:38

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

Application somewhat works in PR1.2 but as I posted before the phone still rings once before the call is dropped. Just as an FYI I tried the commercial callblocker for the N9 "firewall+ pro" and it does the same thing. Somehow the ring starts before the programs intercept the call.

CepiPerez 2012-03-16 00:07

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

That's because the system plays the ringtone before it gives the phone number
Anyways, I didn't try this app in PR1.2 yet
I'm updating FlowPlayer and I'm making another app for spanish users (and porting it to symbian3 at the same time)
I'll check this app when I finish them
If someone want to check this app, the source is in gitorious.

I use it with the PR1.2, and works great.

please, can you make an option to block all calls?

hey, nice app, but doesnt seem to work on pr 1.3 :( thanks for your work and hope you can get some time to look into the issues with pr 1.2 and 1.3

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

Thanks, great app and for me works great with pr1.3. I am using ProfileMatic and I'd like it to activate Call Blocker whitelist during night time. Could you possibly provide me with a script for this that I can put in the custom action field?

Thank you in advance!

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

Thxk for the effective call blocking app! Very nice indeed.

I have over 9 thousands junk numbers that want to be blocked. They all are in separate new line. I see the config file and the blacklist numbers are in the same line separated by comma

black=12345678, 23456789, 34567890,.......

Does anyone know a effective or fast way to turn over thousand of numbers in separate line to the same line separated by comma?

thedead1440 2012-08-04 16:58

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

well i'm not exactly sure and don't have the time to test this but i think you can copy your numbers into an excel sheet into one row...save the sheet as a CSV file and then it should be seperated with commas when you open in notepad...

Edit: also if you have the numbers in columns you can use excel to convert them to rows before you save as CSV...

bnwg 2012-08-04 17:10

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

Thxk. That's what I think too.
The numbers are in one columns with over 9 thousand rows. Unluckily this is max 256 columns in one row in excel. So I can't convert over 9k numbers from columns to rows in one short. But it's still doable.
Seems I can't be lazy to complete them in one short :)

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

9000 numbers? That's a lot!
I can't imagine how slow the blocker will work

What abot whitelist for your contacts?

Re: [Announce/WIP] Call blocker for harmattan

You know what would be cool, if instead of just blocking the call, you can set up a pre-recorded "this number has been disconnected" message you get when calling an invalid phone number.
