Qt Mobile hotspot help

I have Qt Mobile Hotspot on n900 and I am able to connect to CM7 running on HP Touchpad but only when no encryption is chosen, Once I chose WEP the Touchpad Wifi is unable to connect, it says trying to obrain IP adress but never connects, once I unselect WEP it connects back, any suggestions to get around this issue.

I know WEP is not strong but atleast it will prevent anyone and everyone from using my mobile data.

Re: Qt Mobile hotspot help

the signal power out of your n900 doesnt have long range so likely someone to pick it up thats not withing few feet is unlikely. i use mobile hotspot and distance from the passanger seat to drivers seat i loose 1/3 of signal on my xoom. it may be more something with cm7 but i really wouldnt worry about others getting on it.

Re: Qt Mobile hotspot help

There is both WLAN and USB support in Mobile hotspot nowadays. Is there a plan to get also Bluetooth-PAN-support integrated?

Do not know how it would work with Windows, but for example with Linux, I would want to just run Mobile hotspot on N900, choose Bluetooth as a "Connection" method and then Start. On Linux PC pand-daemon (--listen) would notice connection established and do the deeds on that end.

It would be just so convenient consistent to have also that in Mobile hotspot and not needing to run manually separate scripts for PAN-connection in N900.

Having Bluetooth tethering is I think most suitable for me.
1) Compared to WLAN because no need to use so much power as for WLAN and broadcast packets widely.
2) Compared to USB, I can charge the battery quicker if USB is not connected to PC and were there also this feature (?) when USB is connected the CPU never sleeps.

Works for me. No update recently. So, Sir what have you recently installed, upgraded or changed on your phone? There must be something as it is not QtMH.

Works for me, CSSU thumb. With 3G WAN, and wifi the wifi icon does not show, but the radio is used nonetheless. At least that is what just happened with my test.

I did not actually use the connection - I simply connected a device to the n900 AP and it received an IP address. Do you not get to see the AP essid on the device you want to connect?

Re: Qt Mobile hotspot help

If you have some app like wifi-switcher it might be interfering with the loading of the driver.

I just re-checked and Qt Mobile hotspot works. BUT it will not work with the bleeding edge wifi driver, prolly 'cos of a naming issue.

May be this problem is due to weak signal of your phone.

i dont have any of these apps installed and also i don't have bleeding drivers enabled. I will try to re-install the app.

Try this: with QtMHS apparently running, choose connect to hidden AP /essid on your lappie, and type in the AP name you gave the n900. Try to connect. Just for fun.

It is all I can think of for now....

Just upgraded to kernel power 53 and Qt Mobile Hotspot now works with the Bleeding edge / injection wifi drivers as well.

Pali revealed that there was a bug previously with ad-hoc mode.

So perhaps installing/upgrading to kp53 may help you panjgoori?

I flashed my N900 few days ago. Thought may be some apps are stopping Qtmobile hotspot from working but now it gives error when I try to turn on hotspot. I will try KP53 in few days and report. Im a bit busy in my university Lab work.

after installing KP53 now N900's hotspot is working fine. Windows 8.1 have problems seeing my hotspot but i can successfully connect my external TP-Link usb wifi adapter using TP-Link's own software. see pic attached. its a shame that both Windows 8.1 and BlackBerry 10 doesn't support Ad-hoc connections.

Great news.

Android is another that does not support Ad hoc out of the box. I was unaware of Windows 8.1, so thanks for that.

One thing - I had a battery drain yesterday (never seen under kp52) after trying out Qt Mobile Hotspot. It failed to exit cleanly and I was in a rush and next thing an off n900. Keep an eye on that, just in case .....

I am testing further.

I Loooove QT Mobile Hotspot, is there still ongoing development, it seem nearly perfect.
The only thing missing is bluetooth tethering, it would save much battery from wifi tether, is more compatible with locked up Android tablets which wont do ad-hoc, and is safer than USB especially with the breaky N900 USB port.

Which tethering method for bluetooth you need DUN or PAN?
You can have a look at genwall in general you can forward internet from any network device to any network device, this means PAN tethering for bluetooth.

I have in the past used the script and genwall for PAN to Ubuntu, but my wife fears command line and I was looking at an easy GUI, maybe I can make some desktop buttons for her to click.
