[Update] Guide to: Installing AIM / ICQ / Yahoo Messenger / MSN Messenger / Vkontakte / QIP

Here the full guide for enabling AIM / ICQ / Yahoo / MSN / QIP / Vkontakte chats and integrating it with the Accounts services on Nokia N9.

http://n9.indigoblack.de/img/aimp_add.jpg

Ok, installation should be now as easy as installing these three .deb files in a row.

I've mirrored all of the necessary files for convenience to here:
http://n9.indigoblack.de/

Direct links:

#1: http://n9.indigoblack.de/deb/libpurp...10.0_armel.deb

#2: http://n9.indigoblack.de/deb/telepat....0-1_armel.deb

#3: http://n9.indigoblack.de/deb/im-prov...tional-0.4.deb

Installation
(You don't need to use sqlite3 or mc-tool anymore!)
  • Click on the packages in order 1-3 to download them
  • Use the Transfers view that pop-ups and single click to install (Yes, it works now :) )
  • Install packages in order from 1 to 3. Otherwise installation will fail.

Upgrading from a previous version
  • Download file number #3
  • Use filemanager or transfer-view on your phone to find the .deb file
  • click on the file, it will be upgraded automatically

If you wish to deinstall these later, simply go to
Programs -> Manage Programs -> im-providers-additional and select Deinstall.

Note: This will not remove your accounts, they will simply not show up anymore, if you install the package later again, they will reappear.

Note2: If you experience any icon corruption in Accounts view, please restart

Affiliated thread by billranton here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=80501 (thanks again!)

Battery usage seems fine so far. A lot better than using pidgin on N900.

Update1: Alternative add method used, which leaves account disabled when adding. Thanks billranton and rexii23

Update2: Now using the packaged .deb for easy installation and setup. AOL Messenger seems not to work for now.

Update3: Mirrored installation instructions to front page: http://n9.indigoblack.de/ .. not pretty...will do a stylesheet soon.
Incorporated changelog.
Changed topic title

Update4: Thanks @coderus for Vkontakte & QIP providers
Please restart after applying, or ignore the missing icons ;)

Update5: Repackaged .deb files. Now you can install them all by simply clicking on them.

Changelog:
Code:

Telepathy-Haze Source: http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool....debian.tar.gz

Re: Using and integrating ICQ / Haze with Harmattan / N9

It might be cleaner to insert the account with a 0 for the last value at the end instead of the 1 so it's disabled, leave the telepathy account disabled (skip mc-tool 'enable'), then let the Accounts app do the enabling. Can anyone test if this works? I have all my accounts set up now :P

Just tested this. I had to remove the python packages and installed haze instead. used 0 instead when inserting the account using sqlite. rebooted and then enabled it via the 'Accounts' app. Works with no probs.

Thanks!
Updated guide.

Re: Using and integrating ICQ / Haze with Harmattan / N9

Found an issue with Haze using msn. If the contact you wish to talk to is on 'appear offline', then the message sent from the n9 won't be see by that contact. If that contact messages you however, the message does appear. If the contact is on any other status ie online, busy, away, there are not problems.

Is this happening to any one else? Can someone test? I didn't have this issue with butterfly but I had bad connection problems and battery drain with butterfly so I would much prefer to keep haze. This issue with appear offline contacts is almost a deal breaker though!

Re: Using and integrating ICQ / Haze with Harmattan / N9

I can't test this atm, as I don't have MSN.
But the debian bugtracker doesn't list anything in current unstable (0.5.0-1) which we are using.

Re: Using and integrating ICQ / Haze with Harmattan / N9

Could it be an issue with libpurple? on the bugtracker there there is an old outstanding bug with name:
libpurple0: Messages do not arrive, especially not with MSN
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgre...;dist=unstable

billranton, can you please test this for me? thanks!

Rename this.. it's not easy to find and i think 80% do not even know what haze or ICQ is :)

"how to / easy way to Installing MSN, ICQ, Jabber, AOL and Yahoo! on NokiaN9" ??? And add that cool screenshot too :)

Can't you install them from the n9 web browser? I though that was working now?

im-providers yes, but not libpurple0 and telepathy-haze.

Maybe Niwakame can repack them too for installing from web or filemanager?

Niwakame 2011-12-12 16:32

Re: [Update] Guide to: Installing AIM / ICQ / Yahoo Messenger / MSN Messenger / Vkontakte / QIP

The only thing I could do is to write an installation script for the three packages.
We have a repository problem atm, so I can't add shared libraries to any of the three pages: Nokia Shop, AppsForMeego, n9-apps

Edit: Added installation / upgrade instructions

This is a great idea. You can also use something like "Install neccessary prequisites" which will use devel-su to install everything in the first place.
I can provide a simple version.txt file for upgrades on the webserver.

If you want to do this, please use OpenSource principles and let other users also cooperate (I would step in, if you don't mind).

Maybe gitorious or something like that.

This has major downsides:
- libpurple is 4.5 megs, thus the im-providers-package will also extend up to 4.5 megs for every small update.
- if we ever get a working dependency system this would f*** things seriously up.

Edit:
Ah...I understand you.
I will look into it.

Re: [Update] Guide to: Installing AIM / ICQ / Yahoo Messenger / MSN Messenger / Vkontakte / QIP

I encountered an issue with 0.4 that was not happening with 0.2.

online and offline status of contacts are not updating correctly, also which is think is a big deal, something is causing me not to be able to edit contacts after adding any of the new services.

As soon as I uninstalled the edit menus all popped up one after the other.

I've only touched AIM, Vkontakte and QIP.
What service is that problem on?

its not the service but the integration into contacts. when added and imported. I cannot edit after the fact. As soon as i uninstall the edit menus pop up one after the other.

Ok, let me specify: What active accounts do you have installed?

PS: Found the .deb problem, repacking both now.

libpurple0 and telepathy-haze repackaged.
They will additionally show up in the Program manager now, so you can easily de-install every package from this thread, if you wish to.

Updated installation guide.

I assume yes to be safe, because we don't know what has been changed or overwritten, basically starting with a blank slate again....

Niwakame 2011-12-12 18:03

Re: [Update] Guide to: Installing AIM / ICQ / Yahoo Messenger / MSN Messenger / Vkontakte / QIP

no need to reinstall if you want...libpurple and telepathy haze will only change, when a new .deb file is released by the developers. I will keep updates mirrored as they appear.

Basically these are the same files but with a fixed .deb description, which was the reason for the failed install.

So: These are the same files as before, only the description changed.
I would recommend to only reinstall when updates appear.
If im-providers-additional is changed by me, libpurple0 and telepathy-haze don't need updates.

But IF you wish to reinstall them, please do a
apt-get remove telepathy-haze
in console, which will also remove libpurple0 (devel-su needed)

Err...to be safe: Switch presence status of all accounts to offline and close any "Accounts" view, if you have it open before reinstalling.
After reinstalling, every one of your accounts will appear again.
