Does N9 support AptX ?
Hi everyone,
I suppose someone should have a definitive answer as to whether N9 supports AptX by now. If someone already answered this question elsewhere please point me in the right direction and feel free to remove this thread. I couldn't find it on my own :-) |
Re: Does N9 support AptX ?
Do you mean this AptX?
If yes, then NO it is not supported. |
Re: Does N9 support AptX ?
Doubt it, heard zilch about it, would be nice.
Actually now that you mention that... I recall it being discussed at one point in the epic thread. Hmmm, wonder what came of it |
Re: Does N9 support AptX ?
Thread search for "apt-x":

Re: Does N9 support AptX ?
@Hurrian: Yes, that's the AptX I meant. Do you know that as a fact or is that your best guess? Darn, I want it to support AptX so much..
Anyway, I just wrote to nokia asking about it. So sometime next week we could have an official response. |

They did say they had licensed it, & that ad sure look like it's implemented on some devices! Pretty sure that's all there was in the thread search... |
Re: Does N9 support AptX ?
I asked nokia some time ago, it does not support apt-x. I was pissed off cause they show all their apt-x gadgets in combination with the N9. E.g. in the ad for the wireless music receiver (apt-x) they talk about cd quality etc. and the phone they use is the N9. Cheaters.
The be honest though bluetooth from my N9 sounds a lot better on my apt-x creative speakers than from my pc (don't have an apt-x dongle) |

But what sort of BT & sound-card does your PC have? |
Re: Does N9 support AptX ?
A lady from nokia just called me. As Rugoz said earlier the Aptx codec is not supported at the moment. But they are considering implementing AptX to N9 and some other phones. Too bad she didn't say which ones and when.

I use it with spotify. Bluetooth tech is totally confusing, devices support either aac, apt-x or only sbc and usually it isn't even listed in the specs. |
Re: Does N9 support AptX ?
I'm looking to get some accessories and noticed the Bluetooth receiver and other things support aptX, Nokia having licensed last year. Seems odd (annoying) that N9 doesn't support aptX, even though it's seen extensively in advertising pairing with various accessories promoting high quality audio.... wonder if PR1.3 has it included... hmmm

Re: Does N9 support AptX ?
It looks like this was talked about in relation to the N900, and it appears that apt-X is definitely a no-go. A few Android products have shipped with apt-X support, so depending on exactly how the implementation of that works it might be possible to lift the binaries from one of those - I wouldn't get your hopes up though.
The chances of Nokia adding this officially are basically nil - the last firmware release is almost complete and isn't going to be adding any significant features. Contacting anyone at Nokia about it is probably a waste of time. :| |
Re: Does N9 support AptX ?
Apt-X is not part of bluetooth standard, so its quite unlikely to ever happen.

Re: Does N9 support AptX ?
Would have loved the N9 to support apt-X. Looking into getting the Sennheiser MM 450X's.

Re: Does N9 support AptX ?
So, does apt-X sound any better? Does anyone have any objective or subjective data regarding this?
The thing is, I bought some headphones that are only compatible with SBC and apt-X (creative's). The headphones have way better bass response than my other only pair of headphones (in-ear...), but there's some weirdness in the sound and I ponder whether that's how artifacts of SBC sound, or it's just my imagination. I also ponder whether apt-x is really any better considering it has the same bandwidth limitations as SBC and is an ADPCM codec. If it is the case I might actually look into this... (given enough time, of course ... ) |
