Re: how do you reset terminal password on n9

It's pretty hard to accidentally change it... so i do not think you did that. Make sure you are using lower case when writing the password.

Re: how do you reset terminal password on n9

yes. ..lower case. though that was a rubble upgrade they made that auto capitolizes the first letters .

not sure what to do. even enjoying it doesn't let me in.

Re: how do you reset terminal password on n9

Well.. if that is the case i do not think you have developer-mode activated. It must have not installed. What do you see if you write "dpkg -l | developer-mode" (the -l is a small L). Do you see "ii" infront of it?

Re: how do you reset terminal password on n9

i get:

- /bin/sh: developer-mode not found

i have it enabled in the settings/security/developer mode

Re: how do you reset terminal password on n9

really strang. i just installed nano from the ovi store and the terminal icon disappeared.

i made sure that the dev mode was enabled...but it is not there.

the only way i can get it to open is to open file box and launch it from there.

but still cannot get root access.

i have this version:

pr1.1
20.2011.40-5_PR_001

yes...that is 40-5....and not 40-4

Re: how do you reset terminal password on n9

As long as you have "- /bin/sh: developer-mode not found" then you do not have root. With or without terminal.

Have you set "other sources" under applications in settings?`Somehow developer-mode does not get installed when you select it. Do you have internet connection on when doing so? Have you tried with 3g? As it needs to download.

Re: how do you reset terminal password on n9

I Do have the enable non-store installations...also, just reformatted my device all together to start from scratch.

I Cannot enable Dec mode. After tantaping the rifle, I get the warning and three the info that it needs to dl data...then after a few seconds, it just rifles back to off.

I Tried on wifi and 3g to get it on.

This happens if you do not have connection... have you made sure the connection is working? You could atemt to install it manually by downloading packages with your browser...

You missed one word:
dpkg -l | grep developer-mode

Dl And installing now the second armel.deb.

It us only 2Kb but has been installing for 10 min now and it is still not done.

This is a Finland device on pr1.1 20.2011.40-5_100

Re: how do you reset terminal password on n9

I had this the other week. I simply performed soft reset SEttings>Reset settings and everything went to normal, allowing me to install dev mode again

Re: how do you reset terminal password on n9

I am guilty of changing the default "rootme" password and not remembering. Is there a way to reset? After reading through the thread, I'm not certain if I missed something or not but I don't see a solution to issue. Outside of going to the Nokia Service Center, is there a way to reset the Meego Terminal password?

Thank you in advance to anyone for any advice...I know I'm shooting myself in the foot for not remembering

easy solution for that, run following 2 commands and enter new root password:

opensh
passwd

Thanks, just tried and it says
"The password for user cannot be changed."
Starting to look grim.

Re: how do you reset terminal password on n9

Also wanted to mention that opensh is returning a "not found" msg.

$ scp opensh.deb developer@192.168.2.15:.
$ ssh developer@192.168.2.15

Yes, there is an easy way. It is just FLASH your N9. After flashing developer mode would be reset. You have to enable it and download dependencies. The password will be default one i.e 'rootme'. Don't forget to take backup using Nokia Link before you flash. :)
