Desperate for a new N900
OK, here comes a crazy post. Brace Yourselves. I'm feeling manic.
I am desperate for an N900. A NEW N900. I can't find a source that I trust to purchase one from. They are all listed at online retailers with really shady reviews (As in the ones that list under Google shopping who obviously write almost all of the positive reviews themselves) or they are being sold from Hong Kong through Ebay. I am in Canada for a year and Amazon won't ship them here (although the bulk of the sellers seem to be from Hong Kong anyway). I really don't want to pay for a new N900 and receive something used. Most of the online shops I have found are those that claim to have everything in stock in endless quantities just to get a credit card number. I am so desperate that I will pay one of you to find this elusive creature for me. How does $50 sound? I'm not kidding. Ideally, it would be from a Nokia reseller within Canada or the U.S though I wouldn't refuse a reputable source from the UK or even mainland europe. I would like to be able to speak with a floor person on the phone. Essentially, someone without a phone sales department. I want someone to be able to say that they are holding the box to verify it is in stock. I'm not ready for an N9. I might be when six months of community development has happened - but not yet. I know that I am insane but I am serious. I will send you cash in the mail or pay you with card (anything but paypal - not a fan). My sincerest thanks - Abe |
Re: Desperate for a new N900
I dunno, but the eBay units look legit, and have some good positive feedback:

Re: Desperate for a new N900
Mike,
Thanks for the reply. Honestly, would you trust either of the companies you listed? I look at reviews and they seem a little scary. Most of the reviews seem really like a sales pitch (unauthentic). Anyway, I'm really desperate for one of these so if no one replies with something better I will place my order. Still serious about the $50 if a company turns out legitimate. Thanks again, Abe |
Re: Desperate for a new N900
Ammyt,
Thank you for the reply. I stopped using eBay and PayPal about a year ago. I just got burned too many times. My paranoia about shady online shops is stifling my desperation for a new N900. I'm really interested in brick and mortar mobile shops where I can speak with someone on the phone although that isn't required if one of you guys knows a reliable source you have done business with that still carries a few N900s. I really appreciate the help. Abe |
Re: Desperate for a new N900
Spoke with cellhut and auroracell; neither of which actually has the phone in stock. Shady operations anyway. At least they were honest about the stock.
I'm hoping to order one today. If I can get my hands on one I will likely be writing some security software for it in my pass time. I really hope I can find one. I would much rather have the N900 than order the N9. |
Re: Desperate for a new N900
I took a quick look at the bbb for the 2 ...cellhut had 55 complaints over the last 3 years 13 in the last year ...aurora doesn't have any and their file was started in 2009 which is a pretty good sign. I would probably go with aurora but it isnt a clear cut decision.
Find out what your cc company's policy is for online purchase protection ...that will be your best safety net in the end. http://www.bbb.org/NYC/business-revi...lyn-ny-110359/ Edit: Oh well just saw your post that neither had it in stock |
Re: Desperate for a new N900
Here are 2 more leads to try

Re: Desperate for a new N900
Mike,
I really do appreciate the help. You are my new hero. I went to look at the Sears one. I didn't realize Sears had an Amazon-like setup where they are the man in the middle. Have you ever ordered from them and had success? I saw the Amazon one last night. Tried ordering from every single American seller but none would ship to Canada. Only two Hong Kong sellers would do it and one had horrid ratings. The remaining seller (the HK one with decent ratings) is THISONE. Do I have any chance of getting a legitimately unopened phone? I'm paying $400 for it. Tell me what you think. I'm waiting back to hear from you before I place the order. I'm really eager to get my hands on one and possibly do some developing. |
Re: Desperate for a new N900
If anyone is looking used (aka refurbished) replacements for their N900, the following site supposedly has many available:
http://www.expansys.ca/nokia-n900-re...locked-219269/ I spoke with them by phone and they assured me they actually have them in stock and that they are in good condition. I couldn't attest to anything more than that. As for myself, I am still searching for a new one from a reliable source. |
Re: Desperate for a new N900
Have you ordered from Hong Kong before?
|
Re: Desperate for a new N900
yes i do think that there are brand new n900 sitting out there ...it's not a high demand item except for the few of us that are in the know.
I wonder if you could ship possibly to a fed ex and put a hold at location in the states then schedule ups to do a pick up at that location to ship to you lol that would be pretty funny ...I know that fedex nor ups will do redirects. There are also 3rd party shippers though, that you could possibly get to do it. mailboxes etc is a pretty big one but I think they are affiliated with ups but it might be worth a try. edit I have used sears as a mim but only for pillow cases covers lol and hong kong I ordered a replacement stylus and got ... I know a lot of ppl here bought scud batteries which I believe came from hong kong. |
Re: Desperate for a new N900
Am I nuts for wanting a Nokia N900 instead of a N9?
Is it nuts that I MAY have tracked down an authentic one for $999 and I may buy it? What phone are you using? I just really want a proper Linux command line without a bunch of constricting company code (such as that Aegis? crap they are pulling with the N9) Am I nuts? I'm new to this Maemo/Meego addiction. Please guide me. |

The N9 represents Nokia's attempt to turn their Internet Tablet line into just another "ooh, ahh!" device. Sadly, this means that there is now no major producer creating devices that are actually designed to get work done. You know, I blame this all on Steve Jobs. He was the only leader with any vision left at any of the major mobile technology companies. He created a great product, and since nobody else seems willing or able to create their own great products, they've all just decided to follow his lead... Anyway, that's my opinion. :) |
Re: Desperate for a new N900
Just so you know, A new in box, factory sealed phone these days go for 500+USD And also depends on how many others want it,
so... if you not looking at spending this kind of money, settle for a nice cheap refurbished one from china, there's nothing wrong with them (mine at least!) I have two of them, one which I use everyday. I know someone that works for a mobile phone company that has them but wont sell me one!! :( |

This forum is essentially helping me find a place where I can buy a brand new N900 that will ship to Canada. Cheers, Abe |
Re: Desperate for a new N900
0o wow $1500
and for development?? you could by 6 refurbished ones for that! Seriously, the china phones are legit Nokia's and just as good as my old 'New in box' one was and most likely better then a second hand phone. Besides, once they are fully reflashed, they are all the same :D Good luck tho. |

How important is a hardware keyboard to you? Then it seems that you have something specific that you want to work on right away. The community is hellbent on burying aegis which they will. IDK what your forte/level is but that is a project, if I had the skill set, I would definitely be involved in. http://forum.meego.com/showthread.php?t=4575 At about the 20th page you can see they are making progress. There will be a proper linux command line. I am using a n900 but in time, I probably will migrate to the N9. |
Re: Desperate for a new N900
Well someone just posted a used N900 in the city. It is probably 4 out of 5 condition. Only has the charger - no other cables. Asking $250.
I am really wanting a new one. Mike, I am really appreciating your help. Depending how much time I have and how comfortable I find the architecture I will try to start working on some security related applications. We'll have to see. As for your question about the keyboard: the truth is I would like the N950 but with N9 specs as well as the spirit of the N900 in regards to its' being like a swiss army knife. The N9 is a lovely phone but I suppose I want something more... industrial?. Regardless, I will buy an N9 as soon as more leeway is made in the development. Heck, I may just go ahead and buy one along with the N900 - I'm prone to frivolity. ANYWAY -TO THOSE READING THIS THREAD - I NEED A BRAND NEW, UNOPENED N900 TO QUENCH MY THIRST. FIND ONE AND I WILL HEAVY YOUR POCKETS WITH GOLD (or about $50 in Canadian "Toonies") Also, it must be possible for me to ship it to the bland country called "Canada". Thanks, Abe |

Re: Desperate for a new N900
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am not exactly desperate. Might I suppose that sarcasm and wit aren't your dearest friend? Anyway, Mike - "like wut faildroid crapple windoze ..there is no replacement for the n900" - that is hilarious and now I love you. Stop it. Please. Update on the search for an N900: I have payed $350 for a used one in mint condition. However, I am still looking for a new one as I want a backup because I don't want to have to track one down again in case one of them breaks. SO PLEASE HELP ME TO LOOK and a sincere thanks to those who have. Abe |

are you still willing to pay that much for a brandnew N900? i found one when we went to a local shop here in the philippines. :) |
Re: Desperate for a new N900
Giving new phone models for faulty old pocket-linux ones (with no way of opting out wtf) was the greatest fear for me. You could get used N900 and get new N8/E7 with a 100$ on top from ebay. N900 are becoming a rarity now. Awaiting prices to jump to 500$ for a used one soon (500 for a full-fledged N900 vs 700 for aegis-crippled/noextension N9??? simple choice to make)

Re: Desperate for a new N900
Hey Abe..
Please educate me a bit here, why is the N900 in ammyt's link in the beginning - no good..? Why is it that you'll spend 'so much' on a box-piece when so many such unopened N900s are easily available online, all o'er. eBay is pretty effective if you learn to use it well. Local resellers can be good too - and many ppl here've already told you that they're purchased online, etc. with good running results. ..just trying to pin what is motivating your self-confessed frivolity here. p.s. I think the N900 is an incomparable phone too, maybe better ones will come - but this was surely ahead of its time, ahead of the race. I'd love to afford a coupl'ov extra pieces myself.. |
