Change your desktop background!

Video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WalWBeLqDa4

Instructions:
1. Create your background image size of 480x854 in PNG format
2. Rename it to meegotouch-desktop-bg.png
3. Copy the resulting file to your smartphone in the Downloads folder
4. In the same folder Downloads unzip libmeegotouchviews-modified-default.css from the archive (http://www.mediafire.com/?b05rri3b3x20ris).
5. Open a terminal and type:
Code:

devel-su
rootme (the default password)
cp -f /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/meegotouch-desktop-bg.png /usr/share/themes/blanco/meegotouch/images/backgrounds/
cp -f /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/libmeegotouchviews-modified-default.css /usr/share/themes/base/meegotouch/libmeegotouchhome/style/

6. Reboot

PS. For the subsequent change of the background, you need only change meegotouch-desktop-bg.png
But to return to the standard change libmeegotouchviews-modified-default.css to the original (http://www.mediafire.com/?yexu8a70ld534iu).

Excellent work @kuzmichov, thanks for sharing.

I've edited your CSS to use the same image in Portrait and Landscape and did one image only of 854x854px.

Here's my background made from a random wallpaper i found online.

This is an excellent development. I plan to use a white background but will need to change the colour of Application names to anything but white to avoid drowning. Ideas anyone?

The weather widget icon keeps its black background. Will we need to change the icons to make them transparent or is there a line of code we can edit?

Yeah noticed that, it's MeeCast weather icon. But I am not so sure the meecast icons are not transparent and this might be some other problem. If this is the case that all iconsets in Meecast are not transparent (i tried them all), then it's easy just to make a new set with transparent background.
Going to look into it...

Re: Change your desktop background!

Hi, i did some simple tricks to make 3 different wallpapers on 3 home pages.

Youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtOMTEPNQoY

here's the howto:
  • Download this file, extract it in the download folder of your N9/N950
  • Prepare 3 image files with PNG extension. Name it as follows:
    • meegotouch-desktop-bg.png for Events page
    • meegotouch-desktop-bg-launcher.png for Launcher page
    • meegotouch-desktop-bg-switcher.png for Switcher page
  • Put all those images into the Download folder of your N9/N950
  • Assume you have developer mode activated, open the terminal and type/paste the following codes

Code:

devel-su

rootme (rootme is the default password)

cp -f /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/libmeegotouchhome-default.css /usr/share/themes/base/meegotouch/libmeegotouchhome/style/

cp -f /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/libmeegotouchviews-modified-default.css /usr/share/themes/base/meegotouch/libmeegotouchhome/style/

cp -f /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/meegotouch-desktop-bg.png /usr/share/themes/blanco/meegotouch/images/backgrounds/

cp -f /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/meegotouch-desktop-bg-launcher.png /usr/share/themes/blanco/meegotouch/images/backgrounds/

cp -f /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/meegotouch-desktop-bg-switcher.png /usr/share/themes/blanco/meegotouch/images/backgrounds/

To make 3 loopable wallpapers will be/is no problem. To make them seem to be placed in the far back as in Maemo5 however...

Awesome!
Is it possible to set different wallpapers for each homescreen for landscape and portrait? That means in total 6 wallpapers.

Re: Change your desktop background!

Hey guys, I feel like an idiot.

I may be doing something wrong, but I keep getting a permission denied error in terminal

I have developer mode on, I enter devel-su, use default password, but keep getting same thing.

This isn't the first time it's happened either, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

(Worst case scenario I'll wait until there is a GUI or similar, however, I like to tinker)

After cp -f lines..dont enter.. just use space.

And after /usr/...line then it's time to use the enter.

Edit : I retry to retape the hack, afrer writing the first line, usually it's written something, now it was just "~ #" so i type the second line and reboot the phone and it's works!

So i really don't know why it doesn't worked before because i did exactly the same thing, whatenever it's work great now ^^

Thanks! I don't know why I didn't realize that earlier, it certainly seems to have made progress, however...

Now I ran into another error, one far dumber. For some reason, it tells me files do not exist.

I have attempted renaming them (changing the .png, .css) no good, I remade and redownloaded new ones, nothing.

The files are clearly in the correct folder, and I typed out the paths and the names correctly. Any reason why the phone might either be rejecting or just not recognizing the files?

I have the same problem, and fixed. Did you only change 2 backgrounds events and switcher? It seem you must change the whole 3 homescreen...
