[n900] What browser do you use?

I'm just wondering what everyone's experience is here, I have only had my n900 for about 2-3 month now.

I have microB, Opera Mobile and Fennec 6 (from Ovi) installed.

I had pretty high hopes for fennec but I find that I don't touch it since every time I try to use it it brings my phone to a grinding halt.

When I want a quick browse I find I prefer using Opera and when I want websites to behave their 'desktop' way I find myself using microB.

(My phone is not overclocked for now, I am considering overclocking but since I believe the n900 to be an almost one of a kind (I don't like the n9/950) I really want this phone to last as long as possible so that maybe a worthy heir/usurper comes along....)

MicroB is the one ;)

Why don't you make a poll?

I've tried all of them but Microb keeps winning out for one reason or another. Opera is also extremely good. I would like to use Chrome, but a current version isn't available.

90% Opera and 10% MicroB.

Re: [n900] What browser do you use?

Have the same browsers installed, plus chromium and iceweasel (firefox) from Easy Debian.

I'm using Fennec 12 nightly which loads and works faster than older Versions.
Here is the thread if you want to give it a try: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=81608

I'm sorry I gave you the impression that I have an n950, I don't but it specs also make me not interested in making an effort to try and get a hold of one.

I may try fennec / ff mobile 12 or maybe even 8... with 6 it really feels to me as if they thought they were just building a desktop app.

I have been postponing installing easy debian, how smooth does that run?

Re: [n900] What browser do you use?

Looking at the browsers from the user experience, microb and opera are the fastest / best optimised for mobile cpus.

Fennec is a nice effort to port the "bloated" FF to mobile platforms. It runs reasonible fast compared to the small cpu.

Keep in mind that the full Chromium and Firefox browsers through ED are not optimised for tablets and for exapmle you have to scroll with stylus by tapping bars (or use the keyboard) like on the desktop.
With addons you might get a better tablet-experience.
Smoothness could be compared to fennec, not very fast but in my opinion reasonible fast for a small cpu like this and you get the advantages of an up-to-date desktop browser.

MicroB. It's still an amazing mobile browser.

Are you overclocking your n900? I as a rule spend several minutes waiting for fennec and usually my n900 gets completely unresponsive while I'm waiting and after it's finally finished to load the device remains borderline unresponsive....

Microb for sure it has flash its fast.

I tried opera but it was boring and then Fennec but also too got bored.

Re: [n900] What browser do you use?

90% Firefox (the last updated N900 version from FF, not the one from the OVI store), 10% Microb.

Opera seems to drain a lot of battery, & I've never had time to get into figuring out how to download & install the FF nightly builds.

Re: [n900] What browser do you use?

the only thing that i like on opera is the fact that it rearange texts to be on the screen, when i zoom in/out.
but i don't read too many things on phone from internet, so i prefer to use microb.
for microb, the anoing thing is that he not have a select text function, opera again win here.

it is easier to use microb, but sometimes u need opera for those things.

Re: [n900] What browser do you use?

You can select text in microb with a shortcut gesture.
Slide with your finger on top lefthand into the screen.

I think it depends on the website. Which website makes these problems?
And yes I am overclocking at 900 Mhz, but should also work a little slower at 600 Mhz.

Edit: Got that wrong, you are talking about the launch of fennec right? It takes roughly 20 seconds on my n900 to start fennec 12 nightly.

Re: [n900] What browser do you use?

93% - Opera / 7% - Fennec 6.01
I use FF on desktop PC/Ubuntu, but on the N900 it's slow and memory exhausting. This renders multitasking useless.
I would prefer Fennec if it had the speed of Opera or MicroB.

Never noticed a battery consumption issue with Opera.
Even so, i'd prefer to get there sooner on the motorway and use more fuel, than get stuck in stop start traffic.

I use Opera for most and Fennec for websites that don't work on Opera.

Re: [n900] What browser do you use?

My 2 cents ->
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...3&postcount=40

Actually, since that (really old) post, I've been using google-chrome (chromium) much more, and though it still drives me nuts, it's really stable.

Somehow both flash and gps stopped working in firefox, and chrome is just faster. By the way, if anyone knows how to get flash and gps working in firefox, I'm all ears. Searched the forums a few times, but I keep coming up short.

I still stand behind dillo as the fastest browser, however it's 2012 now, and its rare to come across sites designed with speed in mind.

Haven't used microb in months... maybe even years. It just doesn't work without hildon-desktop.

Opera and Iceweasel. I read European and East Asian languages, Iceweasel is the only browser that allows me to use some of the Firefox language plugins such as Babelfish, Rikaichan, etc.
