Mozilla browser problems

Is anyone else having virtual keyboarrd problems since updating? I'm finding that if, say, I make a typing error and touch the backspace button to delete instead it sends the browser back a page. This is really irritating as I'm not such a good typer lol. I have to highlight over the error then type over it.

It most probably you hit the browser back button instead of the keyboard backspace button. I know, they look alike. I do this sometimes too. Be sure you hit the backspace button ON THE KEYBOARD

Histrel is right. This has happened to me many times. It even happens on my PC sometimes. I'm pretty sure I'm in a text box, but it'll still go back when I hit backspace. Maybe I should submit a bug report...

My problem is my wifi connection keeps dropping after updating to this browser, I made a change to my settings so that it was 1000 as per other forum instructions... but now I have to keep logging back in over and over unlike before the latest firmware update and I can confirm I changed and checked that it was coming back with a 1000 timeout

Are you guys able to switch back and fourth between opera & mozilla engines? i have both options but when i select opera, close the brower, and then reopen, the MicroB is still selected.

ideas?

Re: Mozilla browser problems

100 % Valid by the way, when hitting the DELETE button numerous times because of a typing error, it will send you back to the previous page.

It's definitely a bug

yes, that is a GUI glitch. The good news is that it actually does switch engines.

It is easy to test if you kept the original or at least different home pages for Opera and MicroB.

Thanks for the tip. I made the homepage for MicroB the custom google firefox launch page. :)

My probelems are:
1. resize pages often causes crashes with fit to width of page.
2. backspace on keybourd wiill sometimes act like the back page button

Re: Mozilla browser problems

Glad to hear it's not just me lol
I know I'm not hitting browser back button by mistake, they're a good inch apart. Plus, I don't have to hit it multiple times. I've tried it out and once is enough for me :-)
Let's hope it's updated soon - without these bugs. Fed up of having to retype a message on Facebook or whatever because I've hit the button without thinking.
Thanks

Histrel

how do i switch between Mozilla and Opera? I cant figure it out. i am finding Mozilla unusable.
thanks

Frankowitz 2007-07-28 13:20

Re: Mozilla browser problems

Indeed, I found it unusable also. But apart from the browsing with Mozilla it created other problems on my N800 like disappearing keyboard with Opera full screen. I had to reflash the firmware to correct this.

Re: Mozilla browser problems

YUP, Im gonna reflash now myself. My unit is acting weird also since I installed this.
I do remind myself it is a beta version. Thats the risk we take when playing with a beta product. I cool with it.
I am looking forward to the fixed version. When it does work, I see many great benefits.

Yes, definitely. Otherwise one of two things will happen: a) microb will be a piece of crap when launched and full of bugs that everyone just "assumed" would be fixed; b) microb will be released properly much later as all the bugs have to be found by Nokia-internal staff etc. You got it early; you got it free: if you find a bug, search Bugzilla to see if it's there already and, if not, raise it.

For a good example of a bug report (from one of the Mozilla-based browser's author), see #1720.

Re: Mozilla browser problems

One temporary solution is highlight and type over, not a big deal for me since the benefits much outweigh the bug problems.

It's a definite bug. Anytime you hit a KB backspace (virtual or hardware) while typing in a form textarea field, it kicks you back to the previous page, instead of deleting the previous character.

I voted. Also voted for this. It's the double-tap-before-the-virtual-keyboard-activates bug.

a mozilla based issue:

I do like the mozilla browser better than opera. Handles Flash so much better.
Every time I hit down on the dpad though the keyboard comes up. Very annoying!!

numbermonkey 2007-08-03 20:36

Re: Mozilla browser problems

I have the same issue Larry - no idea how to fix it but take some comfort in not being alone :)

Re: Mozilla browser problems

Thanks numbermonkey. Glad to hear i'm not alone. That keyboard issue is the reason I can't decide if it's worth staying with the browser. I appreciate the effort put into this port but can this be addressed?

It's a beta, and vkb issues such as this have been logged in bugzilla. It will be addressed in the fullness of time.

Thanks Milhouse, understood and thanks for keeping things in perspective.

This question may be out of context, but I'm curious. I thought mozilla browser for N800 wasn't even out yet. Is it in beta testing? Or fully distributed?

http://browser.garage.maemo.org/

It is available for "Beta" testing. It's actually distributed as a "Development version" since it's not entirely end-user ready and it has bugs and may cause your N800 to burst into flames and burn your house down. If you're willing to accept the risk in return for filing bug reports you're welcome to give it a go.
