[Announce] MeeSaver | Random wallpaper slideshow on lockscreen
 

MeeSaver is a small app (w/ a daemon), it selects a random lockscreen wallpaper every X seconds from a given folder. It's daemon runs on start-up, so you don't have to have it running all the time.

If you have TONS of wallpapers and can't decide which one to use, or just want to see a different wallpaper, give it a try :)

Well, if you put in 86400 seconds, you should be able to get a daily new wallpaper :p

developer should make it easier for the users, add this option to the app

options(on/off) like
change wallpaper daily
change wallpaper weekly/
change wallpaper monthly

and links to the sites where we can download the .png n9 wallpaper ! i have so much difficulty finding .png wallpapers.

Just download pics in .jpg and then take a screenshot of it. ShotMee saves in .png. Problem solved ;)

Is there anything fancy being done to the pictures when they're changed (i.e., 854x480 checks or similar)? I'm digging the auto-rotating lockscreen—though finding images which work well in both portrait and landscape is a bit tiresome—so 854x854 images are a must.

It's same as the changing wallpaper by Settings manually, there's no checks against that sort of thing. So if it does work when you set it there, it should work on MeeSaver too :)

Some News:

Ovi rejected MeeSaver because of a dependency issue, a new version (1.1.0) is now submitted to QA with this issue fixed and some minor changes (restart/stop feature) and fixes (such as error handling and making use of invoker)

Should be available soon on a Store near you :)

It doesn't work for me either. It just shows a black wallpaper?

I've set it to 10 sec. and the path is /home/user/MyDocs/Pictures, with only 3 pics in the folder, .png's.

Looks like I got it why it doesn't work, and I've fixed it, it's now on Ovi QA with other fixes, .JPG support and a Help screen.

Meanwhile, as a workaround: don't change working directory and copy your wallpapers to /home/user/.wallpapers , not MyDocs or anywhere else :)

It still doesn't work for me after setting /home/user/.wallpapers as path. It's the same as before just a black background?

Do you have any wallpapers (.png) on /home/user/.wallpapers? If you do, here's a quick way to check if daemon runs manually:

First of all, remove /home/user/.meesaver, click on "Add to start-up", then enable Developer Mode, using X Term:

And see if it works that way or paste it's output here, if any :) If there's no useful output/it doesn't work, run this command on XTerm again (without root privs this time):

That's odd, it's the default wallpaper folder, you should have that. But if you don't, you can create that folder at /home/user/.wallpapers and copy your .PNG wallpapers, it should work okay :)

Still the black bachground after the codes in xterm and i don't have /home/user/.meesaver (did find it, but made no difference to delete it)? And yes I've got 4 png's in the folder.

That's odd. :| But It looks like your .meesaver still remains, you should delete it before those steps :) After removing that file running /opt/MeeSaver/bin/bin/meesaver.sh should print an "IOError: File not found, defaulting to .wallpapers and 60 seconds." and revert back to /home/user/.wallpapers/, where you should place .PNG files.

Cool it works now :D

One thing though i can't seem to change the time interval. The sw keyboard doesn't appear when the seconds is pressed. I only get the copy/paste pop up when pressing the seconds field?

Looks like sometimes it misses clicks, keep clicking once or twice and it should pop-up :) I'll look into it to see if it's possible to get it's click area bigger.

It's already released more than a day ago :) Latest version (1.1.1) is ready to download from Store. To make sure, it's recommended to remove /home/user/.meesaver after installing 1.1.1 but it's not required.

Sadly I can't set a new wallpaper daily, as it doesn't allow more than 4 letters. Which means that the maximum is 9999 seconds.:(

Noted :) But it may not be the most effective way to achieve daily wallpapers, especially if there's crontab or some kind of alternative of it is already available for N9. Running a daemon just to make use of it once a day doesn't look great to me.

Sorry for the delay, MeeSaver 1.1.1 should be available on Ovi Store now :) (w/ JPG support, Help screen and bug fixes to address multiple instances and non-functional custom working directories)
