N9 dlna

PR1.2 came with DLNA on the N9 but I have no idea of how to set it up with my computer or tablet. It would be nice if someone can give instructions so others out there can use them and take advantage of all the awesomeness of N9

Re: N9 dlna

If you're using Windows 7, just open the Media Player, browse for your N9 in "Other Libraries", and chose the files you want to play.

http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/6/n9dlna.jpg

Just make sure your N9 is on the same network as your PC. I have no idea what tablet you're using, but it should be the same as long as your tablet has DLNA client capability.

I have a sony S tablet and I tried that for some reason that N9 doesn't show up in windows media player...

Were there any other settings that you had to use to access the media on N9?

OK, let's check from first principles ... have you switched media sharing on on your N9?

I've tried servers and clients, but can't get it to work on GNU/Linux - openSuSE 12.1 - MediaTomb and others progs... etc.

It seems the PS3 can't detect the N9 either, N95-8GB could!

Re: N9 dlna

It seems to work fine from my Sony LED TV for my music and photos.

I am still not able to get the video working. I can see my videos in the N9 Video player, but Sony TV does not detect it.

It would be nice for N9 to search and detect DNLA clients on the network to have a Play-To option in Video/Gallery/Music etc apps.

It is only possible (as far as I can tell) to browse from the client and play contents.

It also pops up GEO map when displaying the photos. I have not figured out how to disable or hide it.

Re: N9 dlna

I'm also unable to access to my N9 using DLNA with the Windows media player.

Media sharing is enabled and I can access my N9 by ssh wirelessly, so I'm not sure about where the issue comes from.

Media player worked for me. Can you guys detail the steps you're taking?

I turned on DLNA sharing (all the options). In the media player on windows 7 - hit View and go to Library. At the bottom of the left bar you should see N9. Hit it. It will take a few mins to fetch your N9 media.

Will test the PS3 and report back.

Didn't work for me either with Windows 7 & WMP. WMP found N9 from network but could not fetch any images. Just got "Failed to connect to remote library" message after trying for a while. Everything enabled in N9's DLNA settings.

Re: N9 dlna

On my Oppo bdp-93 blu-ray player the N9 shows up but it only shows the pictures folder even though I have selected videos and music to be shared on the N9.
The same thing happens when I open VLC on my Debian PC, I can see the N9 but only the pictures folder shows up.

Edit: music and videos show up on windows media player, I don't know why only pictures show up on my other devices.

At my end Denon DNP-720 detects N9 just fine (although there isn't any use for that). Haven't tried with the TV yet. Any properly working DLNA-ready device should do.

Works with Windows Media Player, although I had to add a DHCP reservation from my router for the N9. Basically giving the N9 a static IP made WMP find it. Weird.

Works perfectly fine with my fat ps3. It detects it within a couple of seconds of turning it on

Doesn't work with xbox 360. It detects N9 and gets list of files but no content is shown.

Doesn't work for me either.
Tried the DMM Dreambox DLNA-Client, and VLC Media Player on both Linux and Windows on different networks.
Any hints? How does it come DLNA works on some environments and on other not?

works alright with my Pioneer BDP-440, quite fast to be honest...

Works with my Phlips 52PFL9606 TV set. Just turned it ON on N9, went to DLNA on TV and "N9" popped up with Pictures, Music and Video. All playing well.

yup, I forgot to say I can see the videos on my LG 50PK790 plasma, too..so itīs probably the BD players that are having some hard time detecting videos, not the phoneīs fault...

BD players have a really bad DLNA support from our experience.

That has to work. It's one of the primary devices we regularly test with. Do you have any other device to test with? Do you have terminal access on the device? no need for developer mode, installing irssi from the store is enough.

I can probably explain this; the video formats exposed via media sharing are not that commonly supported by UPnP/DLNA devices and if the player is strict about what it supports, it might just filter them.

You can give up your hope. Sony TVs only support MPEG2 video via UPnP/DLNA and filter out everything not matching that.

The VLC UPnP support (at least on the 1.1.x series) is broken in the respect that it ignores the UPnP rule that devices and services of a higher version are required to be backward compatible. The N9 uses MediaServer:2 but VLC wants MediaServer:1. The two are compatible, but VLC ignores that. Just checked with 1.1.12 on Ubuntu 11.10.

Re: N9 dlna

There is a new version of VLC, 2, out. It supposedly fixed DLNA support. If you are on Ubuntu 11.10, you can add a repo and install it:

http://www.unixmen.com/vlc-2-0-twofl...and-linuxmint/

If you are on an older version of Ubuntu, VLC 2 won't install. But You can go to Synaptic package manager, get totem-extra-plugins and then enable the Coherence DLNA plugin in Totem player (the default media player). Then open the player and you will get a new option on the right-hand side of the screen, Coherence DLNA client. You can use that.

DLNA sharing is kinda fussy, make sure your router/firewall is not blocking it.

I tested this DLNA yesterday with win7+VLC(2). Worked well with music and pictures but videos was not available. - That was only quick test, so maybe i had something wrong with my setups...

Will there be client also... someday?

Also there are certain combinations of WiFi routers and N9 that make device discovery a bit challenging.

Hint: If you're on Fedora, the reason why it doesn't work is most likely the firewall.

Try recording a video with the device's camera and see if that shows up. Worked for me.

You need to restart VLC as it seems to cache aggressively and ignoring update events from the server. Also doing a full-depth scan of the UPnP server is not the wisest thing you can do as a client :(

Maybe. I'm currently hit by an ugly Qt bug on my private project and need to redesign the internals a bit so it's taking a bit longer than expected.

Btw, that PPA broke everything else using ffmpeg/libav on my system :(

Care to ellaborate further, step -by-step on how U got it working?

I'm also kind of curious why they made this a one-way affair(correct me if I'm wrong here). On my N900, I would open Media Player and all of my PCs with media sharing and my Windows Home Server would pop up right underneath Music, Videos, and Internet Radio. I could browse through all of my music and it was LOVELY to not have to transfer every random track I wanted to hear. Am I doing something wrong?

Well there's really not much to set up. Just make sure you enable upnp on the router, and on the ps3 make sure that media servers is enabled. Then when you turn it on you should see it within a couple of seconds.

Re: N9 dlna

@phako
Does N9 support play to external renderer(DMR)? Can it be made to control and send media content to another device supporting DLNA? Like select file and play to my home sound system(both on same LAN)?

EDIT: Ooooops - just saw your Helium project - that is what I ask for :)
