N9 questions

will be getting my n9 in a few days and i wanted to ask a few questions....

will there be a cssu for the n9?
if not why not?

is there any way to "port" the n900's microb browser over to the n9?
or in some way get flash into the n9's default browser?
(i know there is firefox but when i used it on the n900 it felt
laggy and slow)

is there a torrent app available for the n9?

any answers are very much appreciated

Too early to tell but signs point to no, Harmattan is more closed off than Maemo was, but its still too early to tell...

Try Fennec on the N9 first

There is opensh as part of inception, but if you don't know how to use it, don't.

No maemo apps/files don't work on Harmattan unless they are ported over.

i had an n900 with rootsh and was able to do a few things

You mean between Maemo6x (aka MeeGo-Harmattan) & Vanilla MeeGo? (now called MeR*)
Generally yes there is compatibility, but that doesn't mean that apps "just work".
Often there has to be library/package "voodoo-ing" that goes on...
And even if that's sorted the UX's both systems use are different, so apps will look out-of-place.
So ideally if it's a GUI app, the the UI will be redesigned to meet the guidelines for that platform.

*which uses various UX layers e.g. Nemo/Plasma/Cordia etc.

Yes you can do the same or similar...
Enable developer mode or there's even a terminal app in the store IIRC.
There are limits as to what sort of access you have to the system.
But in practical terms for the avg user it's usually not an issue.

You do realize that 99% of your comments are pure trollness nowadays right?
We get that you dislike the platform & the device now, & that you've moved on.
That doesn't give you the right to be on some kind of mission to "convert" others.
You're almost as zealous in your campaign against it as you were for it just a few months ago.
It's quite sad to watch... Keep posting the way you are & the reports will add up.
Maybe that's what you're aiming for....

@chuck norris...
a wise person said if you have nothing to say..say nothing...
in other words if you cant answer any of the questions i asked...dont reply
on the thread..simple...
if your lack of understanding of "will be receiving my n9 in a few days" doesnt tell you i already made a choice of which device i want to use..then there isnt much hope for you...
out of curiosity which device would you recommend?

Re: N9 questions

Yes, but we both know that n9 have issues with [openness] and that will impact future devlopment so lets face it. The cssu won`t pretty. Good Luck with it!

just don't give poeple false hope. n9 is not like the n900!

Re: N9 questions

inception,flash,whatsapp in the works...
hope restored

And you're an expert on this, you can predict the future?
It's certainly moved along a lot further than people were claiming just 3mth ago.
Back then folks were saying open-mode's never coming, now look at what's happened there.*
Then there's inception, which is a bit less elegant, but better for the masses, still early days.
There's still issues around much of the UX layer, I doubt that will ever be opened up entirely.
Especially since they may want to use it with Meltemi...
But Maemo5x certainly wasn't entirely open in that area either.

*obviously you haven't.

Re: N9 questions

@jalyst
im not really an "app" person....
im more of a tinker-er type...
i know the n9 isnt an n900 and its a bit more locked down
but what else is out there that isnt?
wp7,android,ios? and by the time the pureview 808 is released ill have saved enough to get that as well at least with the n9 i have this community who has kept the n900 alive all this time and im guessing will do the same for the n9...
and look at the improvements that the n9 has so far and the possibilities of the "inception" app...looks like its not so bad after all

Re: N9 questions

Lets see if inception survive pr 1.3 first.

Inception will become less needed once (if) there's a more seamless open-mode.
Inception relies on exploits, I doubt it'll be what's mostly targeted by the community LT.
Unless another way is found.....

Hypothetically yes, but a more seamless open mode isn't going to happen with Nokia. If anything, PR1.2 is even more closed than PR1.1.

What would be great is if Nokia donates Harmattan as open source to the community before it expires in its WP7 grave.

Well, of course not, why should it, I assume you understand completely what open-mode is.

I've seen issues with the dev side of things, but they're assigned in the tracker so they're not regressions yet.
What are you referring to? I've certainly seen nothing else to indicate it's become "more closed".

Never going to happen. They'll be re-using much of it in Meltemi...
It we're lucky we may convince them to open some areas, but large chunks won't be, nor should they.

Can Nokia survive until Meltemi comes out? I seriously doubt it.

In my crystal ball I see Nokia broken up and its smartphone division sold to Microsoft. Before that happens some good people in Nokia realizing that MS will kill MeeGo/Meltimi immediately donates Harmattan to the open source community.
