Re: About Viber
Hi all,
Yes, our account here is official. This can be verified. However, we must apologize - there's been a misunderstanding: Our representative who posted in this forum confused it with a Nokia Symbian forum. Our response here that Viber for Nokia is under development referred to Symbian devices, and unfortunately not to Maemo devices. At this stage Viber for Maemo is still not under development unfortunately :( We still don't know when we will have news regarding this issue, but if we do, we will publish it officially in our Facebook page. We apologize again for the misunderstanding. the Viber Team. |

Re: About Viber
@Viber - as it seems it is hard for your team/representative/whoever to make a difference between Maemo and Symbian, just a little hint in case you are using Qt to develop Viber for Symbian - Both Maemo 5 (Fremantle) and Maemo 6 (Harmattan) have Qt 4.7.4 (at least).
Not that I need an application which uploads all of my contacts to a third party server, but just in case. |
Re: About Viber
Mistakes happen - we are aware of the difference between Maemo and Symbian. We cared enough to respond back, correct ourselves, and apologize.
As we said - we apologize for our momentarily confusion. |

Re: About Viber
@Viber: I used Viber on my iPhone day per day since it worked much better than Skype that time ago. With the N9 though Skype is amazing and doesn't have to run in a separate app like on iOS.
But if you develop your application for Symbian, you really should consider to make it available for N9 too (Maemo 6 MeeGo Harmattan). Using Qt this shouldn't be a big deal and you could win a couple more users with the production of just one application. Recommend that to your developers and btw, great that you talk with people in forums like this - something not every company does... |
Re: About Viber
@Viber hi there, are you developing the app in plain Qt or in QML for Nokia Belle?
@the others. LOL Viber's team is kind enough to come talk to us directly instead of announcing via social network, and you treat them like that? Very educate of you. |
Re: About Viber
At this stage we prefer not disclosing some internal technical information. We are working hard to find the best and more suitable path for us to develop Viber on Symbian :)

Re: About Viber
why develop for dead platform symbian but not the disrupting platform meego? you can learn something from ebuddy xms!
|
Re: About Viber

For your information ebuddy xms is available for symbian because it is built using QT . But like the meego version it is in beta . |
Re: About Viber
@Viber: thanks for taking your time to post on this forum, look forward to see an actual release on symbian/meego/maemo sometime soon!!

Re: About Viber
Okay, let me try again.. Maybe I can convince them. No PM's allowed so I will post it here again. Maybe, just maybe they can consider thinking about it again. I know this has been said a lot of times. But let me sum up all the comments in one:
Hello Viber Development Team, I understand that you were confused (it's normal, don't worry. Some people thought this was a forum for Android and iOS). But I still don't understand; why do you think Symbian users are different from Maemo & MeeGo users? Both are dead OS's and both were made by Nokia. Honestly, I'd say if Nokia really did support those 2 OS's as they should be supported, they would've beat Ubuntu, Firefox OS, Sailfish, iOS, Android and WebOS. So if you gave some time to develop for Symbian, it would be extremely nice to continue your work with MeeGo Harmattan, or in another term.. Maemo 6. Android Compatibility Layers were made just for your incredible app but they did not work. Please understand the effort of the members of TMO on trying to get your app to work, you made such a great app and it deserves to be made for the awesome device(s) running Maemo 5 & 6(MeeGo Harmattan). I am only asking you for this pretty simple request, please do consider thinking about this again. This app is a must-have for all devices, my uncle from Kuwait is insisting on buying a new device to have Viber on it to talk to him concerning my Grandma's cancer issue. Viber is our top communication app that we loved; and should be on our beloved devices. Thank you for understanding. Best wishes, AMD Edit: Forget it, it's no use now. |

Re: About Viber
@Viber: thank you for taking the time to answer and interact with our community. We appreciate that a lot. Please be advised that porting from Symbian to Maemo/Meego is usually straightforward.
Hope to have a client for our platform real soon. Regards! |
Re: About Viber
get over it . Viber will not come to maemo5/6 . and it's not worth the effort for someone to port it .
