OCD about the usb door / sim tray
 

Hey guys, I have an N9 and also I'm just realising that I probably also have an OCD / Paranoia! :P Just wondering about peoples usb / sim tray on their N9s. It seems as though my usb door sits slightly lower than the sim tray, is this normal? the usb door is not perfectly level with the top of the phone, only minimally but it's annoying my poor little brain. Are they all like that? On the whole the build quality is ok but these two areas seem like they don't quite fit perfectly, and the buttons are a bit loose. Don't think it's anything to worry about but just wanted to see if i'm the only one. Also, I think I need a case but it seems stupid to have bought a white N9 and then hide it....

if anyone is actually interested, this is a photo of the usb door. It does look a bit 'dug' in, right? Normal?

At least yours is still intact... Rejoice while that lasts and just let go of the OCD :) ...mine became bent & failed despite very careful use - replaced free of charge, on the spot by Nokia Care however even though i had not purchased it locally.

That usb cover it's a little piece of cra* , it's base is a metallic material that bends with small effort but you can bend it in the opposite direction genlty . I think I also have this OCD because everytime I see it bend inside I bend it back to look normal . I'm going to order 2-3 pieces when I'll see it on local services or NC's . :D

I'm honestly surprised that nobody has come up with an alternate replacement USB door with a hole for the microUSB plug.

That would be ideal tbh, I will just keep using it until the inevitable happens and it bends / my head explodes and then drive half an hour to get it replaced at my nearest Nokia Care point!

mine is bent downwards, it's recessed in the middle and level at the edges, which is worse. That was like that from the beginning. Then I dropped the phone and managed to grab it from the charging cable before it hit the ground but that bent the cover even more.

I just bent min back and forth and broke it off just in front of the nub.

voila, no more fiddling with it and saves time plugging and unplugging.

It's actually an innovative & smart design... the device looks so cool with the trap door/s hiding away all & sundry. I love it.

Uh yes, they r just fine on mine... a bit of [extra]caution while opening them doesn't trouble, does it? We definitely need to learn to care - the things we cherish!

Thats not normal bro.. IMO u should go n get it changed..

Does anyone have issues with paint coming off from SIM tray and USB cover..!? Mine came off a bit, was looking really bad.. So took it to nokia care in India, They said they cannot do anythin since I have purchased it from other country. What I did, peeled off the rest.. Since am using Black N9, the color look normal now. ;)

Ive cut my door so USB can be plugged in without opening door. I also moved the white sticker for aesthetics.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I wanted to remove it and mod it somehow to make it sit flat like the sim tray but chances are it'll break.

I've also checked a few of the reviews of the phone and its the same. I think yours looks more accentuated due to the lighting in that photo.

Just out of curiosity is yours a Finland or China version?

Finland, but I am in the UK so it's not really as simply as just swapping it for a new one...I can't go in to a Nokia store here, or can I? If I have any problems with it, how does the warranty work? Would I have to send it to Northern Europe?

and oh yeah, thanks for showing me yours it has put my mind at ease a bit. I think it's similar to yours in real life, maybe a little worse, as you said in the photo it just looks worse.

Interestingly enough, I've never had problems with the usb door. You guys must have too thick fingers.

do you guys reckon if i bought a replacement usb door and fitted it, it would lie perfectly flat in line with the rest of the phone like i imagine it is meant to? or is it something a bit more internal (the metal thingy) that is causing it to be slightly 'dug in'?

there are couple of listings on ebay for usb door. I've seen cyan and black. just bought the black one, to replace my bent one :)

Why not just order some & try it out, they're not pricey.
It's not that tricky to pop it on and off again etc.

Now this I'd buy, I'm in the "stupid design" camp, I was disappointed the very first moment I saw an image of it when the phone was announced. Straight away it looked an unnecessary fiddle, and meant the chance of ever seeing an N9 dock/cradle next to zero:(

Looks a decent enough solution cutting the tray close to the micro USB, although I'd be concerned about the sim drawer being vulnerable then, and also couldn't cut my good conditioned one, and do the spares even come in white?

Oh, and to the OP, my OCD's would kick right in with that door, my White is not like that thankfully.

^Someone was planning to 3d print the mSIM and USB covers, kind of died-off though.
I hope someone runs with it again, & maybe even improves on the existing designs.

I hope so too, sounds like a nice little project that could probably fetch a decent little return once word spreads, as I'm sure there's a large number of us that would like such a solution.

It was in a thread complaining about the USB cover, I can't recall the exact name sorry.
I don't think he got really far at all, it was more a statement of intent than anything else IIRC.
