[Request] N9 notification LED app.

The N9 has a breathing light which is only used when charging. I find it very unuseful and would like to see new apps that make use of it.

Can someone develop an app to make use of the LED and notify us when new calls, messages, emails, twits, or facebook nots?

Remember the N900? it had a white led that cuold shine in many colors depending of the notification? That would be very helpful to have on the N9.

Now with 'Inception' available this request has a chance of being filled:).

That led is pretty useless since it can display notifications on the amoled . :)

A flashing LED is far more noticeable than a screen, certainly from a distance.

as said by chrisp7: a blinking light is more noticeable than a standby screen.

well, not even my two cents, one, at best, considering that i don't have a N9 (& most likely never will get one...) but...

based on the N8, which has a (tiny) led as well next to the micro-USB port, it strikes me as not very useful if that was to blink, unless the Nx is... lying on the side with the LED staring right at you.
simply not placed well for that purpose (notification)...

but, hey, that's a (happy) N900's camper PoV :p

The amoled screen, which the N8 also has is also "not staring at you directly", and it works, right? So why not add an extra reinforcement to the existing notifications. I dont know about the majority, but Im sure some people will find this app useful.. some other wont, so they will not install the app.

Re: [Request] N9 notification LED app.

Also..a blinking light is more visible at any angle than the amoled screen, this is useful if you are lying on your bed with your phone besides you. With some screen inclinations the screen is not very visible. But the LED is always and more visible.

okay ½ cent, then...
on the N8, the power LED is sitting so deep in the side of the device (next to mUSB port) that short of pressing one's nose onto it, there is hardly a way to see if it is blinking...
on the N900
(on a 7710 "stand" http://www.mobilmania.cz/Files/Obraz...7710/2/x15.jpg)

i can see the LED across the room... simply because it is on the front side of the device, in plain view.
where a notification LED should be
even (or especially?) when the screen is in power save mode / OFF

The N900 notification light was so useful - Im sure it would be on the N9..

Why the discussion anyway - if you dont want it what's the point posting in here, so annoying!

Of course the led is only white, bit i am sure we can vary the frequency of it, when booting to rd mode the led is like a memory access indicator like a HDD light, so it can possibly blink very fast...

Let's first get it working then make other requests...

why so negative?
100% that the notification LED (on any device, but the N900 is the 1st NOKIA i ever owned (5 over 12 years) that has one...) are a GREAT feat.
i simply think it's a pity NOKIA dropped that feature so soon again after they introduced it
i value the Maemo community & the "creative" spirits as much as everyone, simply...

http://www.biatch0.net/wp-content/up...01-300x168.jpg

using that as a notification light...
(it's like using m$ LostDOS, whether on a computer, a phone, in a car or wherever...)
it's not designed to do that (any) job, and it seems silly to want to make it do things... for the sake of making it do things
pigs don't fly, ya know?

if they had put any though into the design of the LED, they'd have put it on the front, so that one can (more) easily see how the charging goes
as well as any other (useful) notification (new message, low battery, full battery, you name it...)

I have to agree. I actually prefer the AMOLED notifications, as on my N900 that blue LED going off all the time (yes, I know it was customisable) was a bit annoying with the amount of emails I got.

Would be good to be configurable for the N9 though, since it's there. Use as just a charging indicator is a bit silly.

I saw a mod back then but it needed some deeper system hacking, maybe it is now possible to make a simpler app?

Re: [Request] N9 notification LED app.

Seems like perfectly good "option" to me...
Other users proclamations that it won't be useful at all on the N9 seem rather odd.
It will be useful for some & it will come, just a matter of time, no need to worry there.

noob question, is it possible for the N9's led to display other color than white?

If it's not useful to _you_ does not mean it's not useful to someone else.

- N8 breathing light is very useful.

- if the led on N9 isn't why have one for the charging even. Seems like a waste.

- led on a dimmed room is very noticeable. I sometimes keep my N9 on a shelf, and although I can't see the led to the other side of the room during the daytime, I can see it even to the other room in the evening and night.

Wholeheartedly agree. When my N9 is charging on the coffee table and I'm in the kitchen making tea, I can see the led slowly blink. When it's not charging and I get an sms or email, I can see an extra white "blob" on the screen, but I have to really squint to make sure it's not the Silent icon or something. If the led blinked, I would know I had an email or sms or whatever that needed checking.
I think the led should be utilized for this purpose, and I hope that, now Inception is out and about, we won't wait long for something like that. :)

Some people seem to forget that these small things are huge in making the overall experience better.
Whilst no other leading phone manufacturer even considers a standby screen, Nokia provides - and the breathing/blinking LED is just something else that can improve every use enormously.

My Womans SG2 at a glance cannot tell if:
- It is charging or not
- If it is even on
- The Time
- Any email/SMS notifications

Without touching a button we have this information. How is this not great?

much agreed. I think it also helps with the battery life of the phone. We wouldn't have to press the button turn on the screen and check. Less prone to accidents and just a little extra time in the day to enjoy other things in life .

I've posted what bothers me about the default calendar application.

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=231

For this reason, I would suggest that the calendar alerts should also be notified by blinking Led.

N9 should learn a thing or two from the N900.

Don't worry it will, it will...
Then some of us will enjoy our N900's & N9's even more.

I am not worried. I may be a noob , but I am not worried.
N9 will smart-up even more, thanks to this community.

I too have both N900 & N9.
atm, I can tell you that I enjoy my N900 more.

Re: [Request] N9 notification LED app.

What bothers me more, is not just the LED not being used for new e-mails, but no sound alert for new e-mails after the first one arrives. Thus bug is very annoying.

I wonder if we could flash some full brightness solid color squircles on the lockscreen as a kind of workaround for no rgb led?

Sounds like a great idea. I wouldn't know where to start, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd know how to do it.

Listen for notification signals--->update lockscreen css

kind of like lpsmagic does with system info

I wonder if the lockscreen display could support animated gif?

Then you could just edit your gif however with whatever colors and intervals.

Re: [Request] N9 notification LED app.

I too was wondering about this, because i have a nokia 5800 and planning to get an N9, i really like the breathing Light feature, it's very useful, for finding your phone in the dark, Seeing if you have a message, or was that sound your mind. etc... So i thought because the N9 has an LED at the front. surely it would use for that very reason. But was sadly disappointed.

It would be very Nice if someone could actually Make the Led function as a Breathing light and Notification Light.

I always thought white LEDs were just tri color LEDs with all colors turned on, the N9's LED is white and can only display white? I apologize for sounding so skeptical, but I asumed this feature would allow for different colors for charging and notifications. If this is true, I'm a little disapointed.
